Free Music Review: A masterpiece!

I do not particularly like Chaka Khan (though I admit she's quite amazing and talented). I don't even like the musical style of this recording, or the songs themselves. Yet this is one of the most astounding masterpieces of music to ever go into my ears!! How could this be? In two words: ANTHONY JACKSON.
As far as I'm concerned, contrabass player Anthony Jackson is a living legend, a true genius, and represents the highest state of the art in modern electric bass playing. To me, Jackson is the true star of this CD. He very carefully and masterfully composed his bass lines to best fit these songs, and the result, along with Chaka's "What Cha' Gonna Do for Me" constitutes one of the most important electric bass recordings in history. It is hard to say which record is better. To me they are parts of the same body of work. Jackson was allowed tremendous creative freedom, which had never happened before and will probably never happen again in the pop music world, where music, for the most part has become disposable and very much forgettable. What Cha' Gonna Do for Me and Naughty are an absolute must have for any and every bass player who is serious about his or her craft. Jackson's bass lines are like mini-compositions. I find myself humming this bass lines as I listen to them while driving (I hope I'll never get into an accident!) Quite frankly, if we were to remove the bass from these songs, they would collapse!
