Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Charlie Haden is known for his atypical approach to jazz. One would assume, then, that he would approach bluegrass and country in the same way. The problem is, this album is pretty much typical and uninspiring music of the genre - and, with a huge group of ultra-talented people contributing to it, that just shouldn't have happened. Elvis Costello gives a decent but not particularly inspiring vocal accounting in "You Win Again," and Roseanne Cash does the same with her song. Jack Black (Tenacious D's frontman and the husband of one of Haden's daughters) performs a straight-laced though lively version of Old Joe Clark that COULD HAVE BEEN SOOO MUCH BETTER. Maybe Tenacious D will cover it in the future and add a little insanity/creativity to it.
