Free Music Review: Extremely Moving
Hit: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Maybe it was my frame of mind, but upon my first listen I found this music to be extremely moving. So much so, that I listened to it several times in a row.

The musicianship is outstanding on each and every track, as are the vocals and harmonies.

Though you'll find that the music provides its own take on the bluegrass/folk/country genres it does it in such a sublime fashion that it will resonate quite well with the listener.

A top notch and infectious recording.

Rambling Boy by Charlie Haden Family and Friends

If you never tire of singing praises to, or, about Jesus of Nazareth, can't seem to get enough of the concept of down-home, home-spun, toe-tapping, family get-togethers spiced up with a seemingly never-ending essence of country-twang, repetition and pot-luck smorgasbord -- then, Rambling Boy belongs in your music collection! 'nuf said! --Katharena Eiermann, 2008

Free Music Review: A beautiful album
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a beautiful album of traditional music done with excellent musicianship and tight professional arrangements. The musicians on the album include Bruce Hornsby, Pat Matheny, and of course Charlie Haden, along with top-notch studio talent. This album will particularly appeal to musicians because the backing is so tastefully put together. The vocals feature Charlie Haden's family and friends, some with a more professional sound than others, but in my opinion, all sung with feeling and emotion which makes for very nice listening.

Free Music Review: you bet your roots, toots
Hit: 5 Stars

Anyone who got into that "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" vibe of some years ago will love this album. The family feeling, camaraderie, and great musicianship of the participants make this great music for either Saturday night or Sunday morning--or for a drive through the fall Appalachians as we were doing when I first heard it. (As I read the names in the liner notes, I realized that we had just seen Haden triplet Rachel playing bass with Todd Rundgren in Asheville the previous night. Great show, Rachel.)

Charlie Hayden, family and friends combine to give us the kind of music Charlie was raised on by many of the best entertainers in the business. The musical performances were solid and fun for listener and performer alike. Charlie and his parents started at KMA Radio in Shenandoah, Iowa, and how fitting the album ends with Charlie singing "Shenandoah." I love it and recommend it.
