Among the absolute best of Gillespie and Parker. If you have not listened to either
of these greats in some time, buy this! Listen! If you wondered, why are they so revered? These tracks answer that question. Like all good Bebop music, I always have to work at listening to hear all that is said. Technical note: Having listened to scratchy grooves of earlier music gems, it is also a treat to have the sound quality of this CD for music a half century old.

The only bad thing about this recording is that it was made with the Town Hall's standard audio system. Gillespie is way off mic. Too bad there was not a real audio engineer to mic the performance. If you are a stickler for hi fidelity this may disappoint you. However the sheer genius and energy of the performances overcome this technical shortfall. This is good stuff. What an honor to be able to immerse ourselves in such a vibration. Sure it's not the all time greatest piece of all time, but it grooves. These cats love music. That's it. Feel it! Drums are kickin', bass is beatin', horns a blowin', with the piano o' so sweet. Definately worth downloading into your system.
