Free Music Notes for Dream a DreamFree Music Review: A wonderful compilation of Christmas songs Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of Charlotte Church since I caught her concert on public television. She amazed me with her talent and her childlike outlook that was so at odds with her powerful voice. I have been following her voice through her albums and could not pass up the chance to pick up her Christmas album both as a fan of Church and as an avid fan of Christmas music.Charlotte Church will stun you with the brilliance of this album. The title song alone is darkly beautiful and includes the talent of Billy Gilman. The combination of these two voices is heartstopping and they blend wonderfully together. In addition to many traditional Christmas songs, Church also includes ones that are lesser known and for that I am thankful. Too often, a Christmas album contains holiday classics with different inflections produced by style alone. Church outdoes these other artists by including songs like "When A Child Is Born". Prior to this album, I had resigned myself to a musicbox rendition of it. But the lyrics are powerful and stirring and I am glad to finally have a version of it that does the song justice. Also, the catchy and moving song "Mary's Boy Child" is a song that initially caught my attention because the beat and style of the song was unexpected from the artist. This is probably the best album I've heard from Charlotte Church in terms of the quality of her voice. Like many young artists, Church has been blessed with an extraordinary talent. The advantage of this is that she has years to cultivate her talent and to improve her technique. Though she is far from perfect, I respect her talent and am amazed at her gift. I look forward to hearing more from her in the future and to observe her development as a vocal artist.
Free Music Review: Charlotte dazzles us all again Hit: 5 Stars
I am an avid music fan,of different genres, much like Misses Church herself. I have all 3 of her cd's and they all have gotten better as she as grown up. She has the voice of an angel, as we already know, and her voice has matured right along with her general attitude. Not only is her music soft on the ears, it generates many spiritual, experiences and feelings. All the talk of "Over-doing" it that is heard from the musical "big-wigs" is totally uncalled for. These elitist choose to be blinded by there own prejudice to Charlotte Church because her voice has not take 30 years to develop. Instead writing about the feeling and emotion supplied by Charlottes many angelic ballads they write many foul smelling, critical pieces on how her voice is being exploited and such nonsense that has already been de-bunked by her and her parents. As if they cannot take her and her parents word for it. Instead of being happy for this bright and beautiful (soon to be) 15 year old, they have nothing better to do than to bring out there own personal un-doings in Charlotte and critize her and her parents. I find Charlotte to be a fine stunning figure of a woman. With all the beauty and brains, and not to mention the voice, and I am 17, of a well grounded individual enjoying the successes of being given the opportunity to display and record her most superior talent. Unless I am an invalid, dead or in a coma, Charlotte Churchs music will always find its way into to my home and into my cd player. Here's a 3 cheers for the awesomely superb, angelically beautiful, and awesomely sounding Charlotte Church.\Hip, Hip, HOORAY- Hip, Hip, HOORAY- Hip, Hip, HOORAY
Free Music Review: This Is An Christmas Album Hit: 5 Stars
Given that she was merely 12 years old when she released her debut album Dream A Dream, and that she is certainly cute, it may be easy for observers to dismiss Charlotte Church as the product of mere marketing, but that's not really the case. Yes, she is a marketer's dream, but her soprano voice is alluring, accomplished, and sweet - even if it's not quite the voice of an angel, it comes close. And that's the reason why millions of listeners were wooed by Dream A Dream: Church is talented, young, and adorable. She's a good singer, sure, but one with enough talent to make her more than a special interest story. However, she is also the kind of singer that isn't well-regarded by classical purists for a variety of reasons, chief among them being the special-interest story itself. It's a double-edged sword, actually, since her very age makes her noteworthy to a wider audience, but not to the aficionados of opera, since she doesn't possess the skill that would make her a great artist in the view of many critics. Yet Voice of an Angel should be judged as a record, apart from Church's age. On that level, it succeeds - particularly if it's viewed as a debut album. Yes, the material is pretty familiar - "Ave Maria," "Amazing Grace," "Ave Maria," and "Danny Boy" all make appearances - and because Church doesn't really offer revolutionary interpretations of the songs, she is open to criticisms from some opera critics. However, she has such a nice voice that it will be easy for many listeners to overlook the obviousness of the material and just enjoy the sweet music; Dream A Dream certainly has its fair share of that.
Free Music Review: She's done it again. What more can I say? Hit: 5 Stars
The beauty and enchantment of this CD all begins with the title track, "Dream a Dream", which enchanted me the second I first heard it. The orchestrations and sounds of the music is spetacular and dazzleing. Charlotte's previous two albums were wonderful, but the music and voice of this album exceeds far beyound what she did before. Her voice has gone higher and stronger, with more emotion. The orchestra also does well in doing their part and Charlotte's voice helps shine the merry light. She knows how to bring life to old classic songs. She brightly and sweetly sang in "Ding Dong! Merrily On High", "Winter Wonderland", "When A Child Is Born", "Far Over Behtlehem", "Silent Night" and many others. She and the choirs sang with much strength and triumph in "O Come, All Ye Faithful", "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", "Joy To The World", and "Lo! How A Rose E'er Blooming". I also really loved the soothing beauty and enchantment of "Coventry Carol", "What Child Is This", and "God, Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". In fact, all of these tracks were wonderfully and brightly performed. If you want to have a wonderful Christmas, you'll find it in this outstanding, exquisite album. You'll find all of the great Christmas classics hear. The only song I thought was missing was "Angels We Have Heard On High", but "Ding Dong! Merrily One High" is very similar. (not to mention lovely!) The title track alone is to die for. Keep up the excellent work Charlotte!
Free Music Review: For Christmas In New England Hit: 5 Stars
Dream a Dream is a mix of classical and more popular Christmas tunes along with the original title track. I especially enjoyed Winter Wonderland because it takes us to another place in Charlotte's vocal talents. Her voice and style continue to evolve and I think the idea of Charlotte as an "opera singer", which she never really was, is a thing of the past. I have had the opportunity in my life to sit in a living room around a piano and heard some of the worlds best opera singers do their thing in a relaxed environment. Some of them were wonderful, others a disaster to MY ears. After seeing Ms. Church in person she would be one of those I would want to hear around that piano. I am flabbergasted by the critics and nay sayers of Charlotte Church who go beyond the boundaries of personal opinion to the attack. I watched Christina Aguilera the other night and listened to her version of some holiday songs. I did not like what she did. That is a matter of MY taste. I still understand the folks who love and adore those same renditions; the moral of the story here is, if you like Charlotte Church, then you will like this CD; if not, listen to who you like, be it Christina Aguilera, Lesley Garrett, Frederica von Stade or your old 78 rpm Helen Traubel records and stop defending that which does not need defending. The CD itself is not without some flaws, but I blame SONY for their inexplicable inability to produce a high quality product. Charlotte's appeal includes an innocence and vitality of youth that similar stylists do not provide. Listen and enjoy
