Free Music Notes for Prelude: The Best of Charlotte Church

Free Music Review: An Amazing Career
Hit: 4 Stars

While possibly somewhat premature in the sequence of her recording, these selections from Charlotte Church's career will give everyone interested in one of the brightest stars to appear on the music stage in some time, an opportunity to familiarize themselves with her work.

Pie Jesu, her first big hit, will allow you to hear her soaring soprano voice and its crystal clean tone. Amazing Grace from her 2nd CD allows her to perform a classic song sung by many and will allow you to compare her to others of high renown.

A 3rd selection worth mentioning is "All Love Can Be", a song she sung on the soundtrack from the award winning film, A Beautiful Mind.

For anyone not in possession of any of her previous albums, this compilation will provide some enjoyable listening and a good idea of what Charlotte is all about.

Free Music Review: A Nice Collection
Hit: 4 Stars

Anyone listening to this collection of Charlotte Church songs will discover the essence of what made her one of the most talked about child singers in the history of music. You will hear selections from each of her 4 albums, 4 songs not previously released, and a delightful song from a soundtrack of a Academy Award winning film. 18 tracks in all which is more than typically provided in an album of this sort.

By the title of this album, Prelude, it is obvious that she is moving on to other musical genres, so this album will apparently be the last in the classical crossover series. Accordingly, I would strongly recommend you acquire it. Charlotte is and will remain totally unique as a teen vocalist.

Free Music Review: Enjoy the music, don't worry about technique
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm sorry, but I'm not a purist when it comes to classical music. If a song is sung well (i.e. it's pleasing to the ear), I don't care about the artist's technique.

Also, I quit caring a long time ago about an artist's personal life, as long as their music doesn't suffer as a result.

As far as I'm concerned, even if she's not an angel anymore, Charlotte Church still sings like one. And I'd much rather listen to her than LeAnn Rimes, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, or her other so-called peers.

I enjoyed the "Habanera" track, it's nice to see an artist try to really stretch the envelope, even if they don't necessarily succeed.

Free Music Review: Beautiful
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm not a skeptic, pessimist, whatever. I really, really like Charlotte Church's voice. To me, it's gorgeous singing, and most of the songs I really liked. "Bali H'ai", "The Flower Duet", "Habanera" (which sounded good to me!!), "Panis Angelicus" (my personal favourite) and many more. But really, if you haven't already, you should purchase her first 3 CD's, which are even better.
She should start recording again. It may have been a bit too early to record a Greatest Hits CD---she should make, probably, about a dozen or so more albums until she does that. Premature? Yes, but I like her voice.

Free Music Review: Astounding
Hit: 4 Stars

Charlotte really has an amazing voice. Hopefully, she will be able to cultivate it. My faves included Amazing Grace, The Flower Duet and All Love Can Be. I think that the duet with Josh Groban, titled The Prayer should not have been sung because Groban's voice is so much stronger that Charlotte's that is makes her sound weak. But it is a beautiful song.

I believe those buying this album will enjoy it. There are plenty of well known standards and Charlotte does a good job with all. I believe that she is not that far away from a 5-star album. I wonder what this album is a prelude to?????
