Free Music Notes for The Metropolitan HotelFree Music Review: Real country music Hit: 5 Stars
Chely Wright is not main-stream pop country any longer. Chely's return to real country music is as drastic a departure from "Single White Female" as was her exodus to pop country after "Woman In The Moon". This CD is no a one-hit wonder. "Bumper Of My SUV" is a good song, it deserves the attention it's getting, and it should bring broad exposure to the entire CD. But it's far from the best song in the set and actually not representative of the good country music found in songs like "South Side Of Lonesome", "What If I Can't Say No Again", and "I Got Him Ready For You". Oh that "The River" would find some radio airplay, but that is not likely to be for there is just too much reality and too much death in it to suit the tender ears of mainstream air waves which thrive on the "loved happily ever after" theme. "Metro Hotel" has the potential of being a great CD as evidenced by different songs, each in turn, rising above the rest as standouts as one experiences repeated listens to this CD. Time will tell.
Free Music Review: Simple, Honest, Terrific Hit: 5 Stars
Chely's newest CD, The Metropolitan Hotel, is her best album to date (and that's saying a lot being as she has some awesome albums!!). It has some great songs to sing and tap your toes with -- "C'est La Vie" and "Just the Way We Do It." It also has some deep, heart-string tugging songs - "Between a Mother and A Child" and "The River." "Bumper of My SUV" is one of the most simply, honest and patriotic songs ever recorded. But that's a trend I hear on this album -- simple and honest. She tells true stories such as "The River" and "Bumper of My SUV." This album is a wonderful display of Chely's abilities as a song writer (and well as showcasing her talent in singing other's songs). I haven't met anyone yet who has listened to the whole album and not yet wanted a copy for themselves. It comes highly recommended.
Free Music Review: You gotta get this.... Hit: 5 Stars
This CD has Chely's fingerprints all over it....writing, producing, singing.....and she should be proud. What an excellent CD--from start to finish.
It is rich in stand-out instrumentation, without being over-produced, or at the expense of the vocals.....because it also has stand-out vocals (Chely is in top form---and incorporates the perfect inflections, spoken word, and hooks, in just the right places). And the lyrics...the songs range from heartfelt to fun...without the "fluff" or filler. No filler here!
It's my nature to skip the slower songs on a CD for the first few listens, but not here. They're all too good to pass up.
In my opinion, Chely has taken a step back stylistically (to her roots) and a huge leap forward artistically. And...it's a winning combination!
Free Music Review: Metropolitan Hotel- A Fanatstic Album Hit: 5 Stars
Chely Wright- A classic beauty, who has the talent to do whatever she wants. She has given us a classic masterpiece with her new album, The Metropolitan Hotel.
With her new album, she has showed that she has gotten better with age. Not that her other albums were of a lesser quality, she just has matured in both her songwriting and singing.
From the classic, Bumper of my SUV, to her cover of Chuck Berry's C'est La Vie, she has given us great writing and great music.
As a fan, I believe if you listen to this album never having listened to Chely before, you will be enthralled with her voice and her singing style. She is the best country singer out there, bar none. Or should I say, the best singer- Period.

Free Music Review: Buy it now! Hit: 5 Stars
This is by far the best album to come from Chely Wright so far. She was really able to let her creativity and personality shine through since she signed with independent Dualtone Records. The album features a good balance of upbeat, fun songs and meaningful ballad ones from "C'est La Vie" to "The River." The lyrics are very expressive and compel listeners to relate them to their own lives. "Between a Mother and a Child" and "Southside of Lonesome" really hit home for me. This is one of those albums that you want to listen to over and over in its entirety. There is no need to skip over songs while listening because they are all so good! It has not left my CD player since I got it! This album should be in everyone's collection....you will not be sorry!
