After picking up a copy of Chevelle's first and pretty good album ("Point #1"), I was obviously "Wondering What's Next" for this trio. The title track speaks of the pressures of producing more music and dealing with the expectations that accompany a successful first release. This new album is similar in flavor vocally, but takes a new turn in progression and a little different sound, maybe with the influence of New Producer GGGarth (Rage Against the Machine). This album mixes tempo and rhythm well while slowly building to a climaxing grind then decending and rising again; they deliver well. I think they came across more mature and accomplished. Best songs are "Family System", "Send the Pain Below", "The Red", "Don't Fake This", and "An Evening with El Diablo". Unfortunatly, most of these songs will probably never make it to radio airplay, although well deserving to. "The Red" is a first class radio and MTV single currently.
This album rocks, but unlike Point #1, the songs distinguish themselves more from each other, making it grow on you and I enjoy listening to it repeatedly. Kudos to the Loeffler boys!
