Free Music Notes for The Power of TwoFree Music Review: What a wonderful find! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of Michael Feinsteins' for years and have all his recordings. I am always looking for new recordings from him (am still hoping he will do a Christmas CD). I have heard of Cheyenne Jackson but have never heard anything from him but know he has done Broadway. I was not aware of this cd's release and hadn't seen any previous info on it, even here on Amazon (I'm guessing since it's listed as an import) and happened upon it at a local Borders. I Immediately snatched it from the rack and bought it, knowing that this would probably be a great disc- I was right! This is truly a wonderful collaboration between two great artists who know how to not only sing the notes, but the words and add the nuances that make the songs personal.
One of the first things I noticed was how their voices really compliment each other. At first, it's kind of hard to determine who's singing since both voices are quite similar. And the song selections are just great, from standards to lesser known songs. But they hold to the title of the disc (this is one of the best songs on the cd) - two people singing to and about each other. It's also notable that they are 2 men singing songs that are usually sung by a man and a woman, and they don't change the pronouns to make the songs more 'straight'. Kudos to you both for being true to the music and to yourselves! So all of this combined make for a very enjoyable listening experience- not to mention the cover picture too. I hope this is the beginning of other collaborations from other openly gay artists to do the same thing (plus I hope these two will do other projects together). It's always great to hear new material from Michael, and I am definately looking forward to the first solo release from Cheyenne (which I hope is soon). I think he has a very impressive recording career ahead of him.
If you are a fan of either man, or are looking for a disc of great music by two of music's finest singers, go get this disc immediately!
Free Music Review: Refreshing duo that will brighten and enlighten Hit: 5 Stars
Ordinarily Michael Feinstein causing me to yawn. But! Cheyenne Jackson perks him up!
This pairing with Cheyenne Jackson woke me up with a sense of joy I have not known in Broadway/standard vocals in quite a while.
These two feed off eachother and produce romantic, warm and sexy music. Mr. Jackson is so much better Than Buble ,and I must admit I was skeptical before I gave this a listen. The songs carry a bit of a gay pride harmony-and that's nice too! This is an excellent cd. It is wonderfully palyed by Mr. Feinstein, and is a celebration of days gone by and the days we are experiencing right now.
Free Music Review: More! More! More! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is simply sublime. I listen to it on my way to work, during work, on the way home, and any other time that I can. These two gentlemen are each wonderful alone, and together they are phenomenal! Been a fan of Michael Feinstein's since the mid-80's, and Cheyenne Jackson since I saw him on the Tony Awards a few years ago. Have not seen him in person, though I did see Michael Feinstein when he toured with Rosemary Clooney several years ago. We saw them in San Francisco. Sure hope that this duo pairs again for more great tunes! Thank both for a little bit of heaven!
Free Music Review: Wonderful combination of voices Hit: 5 Stars
The blending of these two beautiful voices makes for a terrific album. Michael's lighter, airier voice melds perfectly with the glorious, sonorous voice of Cheyenne. If you like Cheyenne's voice on this album, you must buy the new Broadway cast Finian's Rainbow to hear what his voice sounds like without the constraints required for singing on this cabaret-style album. Cheyenne has the most amazing voice on Broadway today. Let's have a solo recording from Cheyenne next on the agenda.
Free Music Review: Two is Better Than One Hit: 5 Stars
Michael Feinstein has never been better than on this CD. And, it is a great introduction to Cheyenne Jackson known to too few folks. His Broadway exposure deserves wider attention and this is the vehicle for that. Wonderful song selections, duets and solos. I have bought several copies for foreign friends. All are very happy to be introduced to Cheyenne Jackson and agree with me: "The Power of Two" is better than one.
