Free Music Notes for The Power of TwoFree Music Review: Feinstein & Jackson the golden crooners Hit: 4 Stars
With a nice collection of standards these two prove "the power of two" works well. While the content bounces back and forth with solo pieces for each the real shining moments are when they sing together. Check out the great sound they make in "Me and my Shadow" and the title song that will surely leave you wanting more. Only 6 of the 15 numbers combine their talents which seemed far too few. I was more familiar with Michael Feinstein prior to this collaboration, but was definitely drawn in by the voice of Cheyenne Jackson. If you are looking for a collection of beautiful jazz standards with something new you'll enjoy this duo.
Free Music Review: Cheyenne needs to do more Theatrical "POP" Hit: 4 Stars
Great album, great performers. Cheyenne needs to break out with more of a theatrical POP sound. Even Michael Feinstein did an album of Jimmy Webb songs. One Jimmy Webb song PERFECT for Cheyenne would be "The Worst That Could Happen" which would be great in context of gay marriages (a guy in love with a man marries a different man).
Also, "Are You Falling Out of Love" which is an extremely rare Burt Bacharach tune sung by I think only ONE other artist. Another rare Bacharach tune would be "Waiting for Charlie to come home". Hell, any Bacharach tune would be gold!
Free Music Review: Wow! Hit: 4 Stars
Once upon a time in a long-gone gay piano bar I (and a lot of other guys) would soulfully sing "We kiss in a shadow", (along with "Maybe this time", "The man I love", etc. etc. etc.). But I never thought I'd hear it as a male duet on a mainstream recording. Unfortunately, the treatment isn't what it could have been --- too abbreviated, a little bit flat in places --- but other stuff on the CD makes up for it. We've come a long way, baby!
Free Music Review: Cheyenne!!!! Hit: 4 Stars
If you are a Cheyenne fan (you will be after this CD)you'll be in seventh heaven! There is a beautiful duet with Mr.Feinstein of We Kiss In A Shadow that will make you MELT! and is reason enough to buy the CD.
Free Music Review: Disappointed Fan Hit: 2 Stars
I've been a fan of both Michael Feinstein and Cheyenne Jackson and was looking forward to hearing their collaboration. Their voices are great but the songs they chose are kind of boring as a whole--and their delivery a bit cheesy at times. But Cheyenne's "Someone To Watch Over Me", at the end of the CD, is beautiful.
