Free Music Notes for Stone of Sisyphus (XXXII)Free Music Review: Lost West Coast Classic Hit: 5 Stars
Christmas has arrived in June this year. 1992-93 were seminal years for the West Coast and AOR genres, and I bought most of the releases...David Foster's River of Love, Richard Marx, Bruce Gaitsch, Tim Pierce, Joseph Williams, Jay Graydon, and many others. SOS is a lost gem from this era, and a must have for fans of this genre.
Peter Wolf was the producer on this project responsible for the artist creativity and diversity of the mix, as other reviewers mentioned nobody had done since the James William Guercio days. I think this is the logical predecessor to XXX, funny it is dubbed XXXII, though XXX is a bit more mainstream it has more in common with SOS than any other album.
The fact that Dann Huff (yes that Nashville producer) plays most of the guitars on SOS gives an indication of the production quality. Note: Dann is Jay DeMarcus (Rascal Flatts) producer as well as Keith Urban's, and Dann plays a bit on XXX as well.
The vocals and horns are in top form here, as are the keys, drums and bass. Overall an extremely tight sound. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Pure Vintage Chicago Rock My Friends Hit: 5 Stars
The dollar is falling. The stock market is shaky. Gasoline prices and going through roof, and The Stone of Sisyphus has finally been pushed to the top of the Hill!!!!
This is pure unadulterated vintage Chicago Rock and Roll! Funk, Grooves, Horns, and even a couple of Chicago Ballads thrown in for good measure. This record is full of surprises.
This album has been sleeping (aging like a fine wine) for 15 years due to Warner Brothers lack of understanding good music. Thank you Rhino Records for seeing what a great album this is and having the guts to release it! How refreshing it is to go back in time and pull out this classic rock album!
Buy it, listen to it several times, taking it in like a fine wine. There are songs that will become clear favorites as you do. I love Plaid, Here with Me (Candle for the Dark), Mah-Jong, The Pull, The Show Must Go On, Cry for the Lost, Stone of Sisyphus, Bigger than Elvis. They are all great!
Buy it now and thank me later. Thank you Chicago and Thank you Rhino Records!
Free Music Review: I've Loved This Album For "All the Years" Hit: 5 Stars
That's right, I've had a DIGITAL full-quality bootleg that was given to me by a fellow fan years ago. It is an almost perfect copy. I've kept it secret because I didn't want any possible backlash. How I wished I could have sent it to all real Chicago fans. But I'm so glad the real version has been released now. I may buy several copies just in case it disappears again (you never know). Warner Bros showed their stupidity and greed by pulling such a brilliant album. Big labels suck. But Rhino seems to care about the music, which is what Chicago cared about when they recorded this album. The title track is in my opinion one of their best tracks ever, as are many others on this album. It's still a mystery why it took so long for Chicago to release it or why they were so hush about it. But oh well, it's here now! I hope every one who buys this album will enjoy it as much as I have. You will hear the REAL Chicago, in all their musical brilliance. And by the way - catch a live show of theirs if you can. It will blow your brains out!
Free Music Review: Finally!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Short and sweet. I have read all the reviews and there are some good points out there and some I just will never get.
First, there are no outside writers.
Second, the horns are back.
Third, there is not a bad song on this disc.
Fourth, Terry was my hero, my idol and the reason why I play guitar. He is gone and when he left us so did his genuine unique sound that can never be replaced. Dawayne could have come close, but when you are not an original member you are limited. Even if Stone of Sisyphus comes really close to Introduction.
This is an album worth having and how can it be compared to monumental albums like CTA, II, III, IV and V.
I personally do not see how you can not like this if you are a Chicago fan. The garbage Cetera, Foster and outside writers brought to this band that pigeon holed them is an abomination. If only they had kept writing and releasing more albums like this one.
Peace, TKATH Forever!
Free Music Review: Creativity usually means different! Hit: 5 Stars
I am tired of hearing "fans" of Chicago who say that they want to hear new music from the Band that is similar to the first 10 years of their career. I have been a fan of this group for 25 years and have thouroughly enjoyed the fact that one group has been capable, over a 40 year time period, of CREATING so many different styles of music at a standard that is nothing short of outstanding. This group should not be criticized for their willingness to create and be different. After all, 40 years is a long time to be making music. It is to their credit (and our good fortune) that they have been willing to explore so many types of music. Watching these guys in concert is also a real treat. It is amazing that they are able to recreate themselves year after year in this format as well. The Stone of Sisyphus is an outstanding effort from the group. True music lovers will find plenty of great material on this album. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!
