Hit: 3 Stars

Although this set does include a few of Chicago's hits in the 2000s, it is seriously lacking compared to 2002's The Very Best of Chicago: Only the Beginning. That excellent compilation has 39 tracks; this one has 30. You do the math.

Free Music Review: Best of Chicago
Hit: 3 Stars

The best of Chicago 40th aniversary is a very good compilation of Chicago's hits. However some of the songs have been severly butchered namely Questions 67 & 68 and Beginnings up to some 50%. I's rather have them leave one song out instead of cutting two songs in half. But all in all it's a nice compilation for on the road.

Free Music Review: Unnecessary
Hit: 2 Stars

At this point in time, with so many "greatest hits" packages having been released to document the legendary band Chicago's legacy, this "40th" collection of hits may actually be that: Chicago's 40th CD of greatest hits. All humor aside folks, this culmination of some record execs' decision to milk Chicago's amazing hit-making career even more by taking a new angle with the use of radio edits to compile a hits collection, is completely unnecessary. First of all, anyone (like me) who lived through Chicago's career on pop radio and endured the awful cutting and pasting of some of the greatest pop tunes ever recorded as they played over the airwaves, cringes at the thought of these things being brought back to life. The band's need for radio edits in their first few years of existence to get six or seven minute songs payed on the radio as radio-friendly three or four minute versions is understandable. To resurrect them decades later for monetary gain, is quite another matter.
Two stars for the songs themselves. Alternate and really fine Chicago greatest hits collections worth purchasing are noted in other reviews.

Free Music Review: Edited
Hit: 2 Stars

Beware of this CD.

Rhino has done it again by issuing edited songs.

This should be re-titled The Best Of Chicago 40th Anniversary Edited Songs by Chicago.

The songs Question 67 and 68, 25 or 6 to 4, Does anybody know what time it is? Beginnings, Wishing You were Here were all edited down to their 45 version.

This is no way to celebrate a group like Chicago with edited versions!

It shows disrespect!

Avoid this one.

Free Music Review: Not as expected
Hit: 2 Stars

It's got Chicago's best hits, but some of the songs - like "Beginnings", and "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" - are cut off at the beginning. That's right - when it was remastered for this CD , the songs were condensed. That was a big dissappointment.
