Free Music Notes for Thousand Kisses DeepFree Music Review: It's a warm, beautiful trumpet kind of thing... Hit: 5 Stars
"Like deja vu all over again." This famous intonation of Baseball Hall of Famer "Yogi" Berra popped into mind after my first listen to "A Thousand Kisses Deep." After musing some more, everything started to fall right into place. Another hit CD for Botti! I never even set out to figure out this album; I just intended to appreciate it. And, the bottom line...if ever there was a trumpeter who could make a vintage horn sound like a million bucks it's Chris Botti because he is VERY GOOD indeed.
The trumpet appearing with Chris on the cover photo of this release is a rare 1940 Martin "Hand Craft" Committee trumpet that just happens to be the very model played by Miles Davis and Chet Baker. In Botti's own words, Davis and Baker are his heroes. Evidently, it helps to have heroes you look up to and emulate, and, on this CD, it would appear that Chris has strived to go above and beyond his heroes with a melodically sure-footed attack that sparkles and reflects pure musical genius.
Upon hearing the beautiful tone that Chris elicits from his instrument, whether open or muted, the listener experiences a mood that is at once warm and romantic, brooding and melancholy. This is just one way the trumpet can be played in a solo or lead role, and it's not someone else's style so much as it's Botti style.
The tunes "Ever Since We Met", a song showcasing a very mellow vocal by Bridget Benenate, and "If I Could", featuring a simply excellent organ underpinning by Jim Cox, are two of the most notable offerings on this CD and together they represent the ultimate in Chris's chill out music and are worth every second of indulgence.
"My Funny Valentine", a song that is oft done in jazz circles, seems to be dedicated to the influence of Baker and Davis, and it's beautifully executed with just the piano accompaniment of Billy Childs. Botti seems to be saying to his idols, "Listen; this is just a little thank you for your influence in my life."
Pick up this CD, enjoy "A Thousand Kisses Deep," and "if you come to a fork in the road, take it." All the best of life to you!
Free Music Review: Bought it - Heard it - Loved it - SAW Chris Botti LIVE! Hit: 5 Stars
I first saw Chris Botti performing with Sting on the DVD "All This Time" recorded in Tuscany & there was something about him that really stood out... I had no idea that he had already a couple of solo cd's behind him. I later saw him make a couple of special appearances on the Caroline Rhea Show (those few appearances lead to 5 months) & I thought "this man has talent, class & I have never heard someone play the trumpet as smooth & sensual as Mr. Botti -- no lyrics needed to understand the messages behind the music notes!!! I then bought his Christmas CD 'December, followed by 'Night Sessions' & just fell in love with his music! Then, March 20th/2004 comes around, Sting is performing at Massey Hall in Toronto & I was pleasantly surprised when Chris Botti opened for him, as no one really knew who it was going to be. Nearly jumped out of the balcony when they announced his name -- lol -- what a treat -- HE WAS SPECTACULAR & his band is great as well. If you ever have a chance to see him LIVE... go for it!! I never knew the trumpet could be such a sensual & smooth instrument! Not to mention how kind & humble he was during the intermission when he was signing cd's for the fans -- that's when I bought his latest "A Thousand Kisses Deep" & had him sign it -- told him he should do more Canadian venues & that I only watched the Caroline Rhea show to hear him!! lol And I thought... this man is going to HUGE! I don't understand why his record company is not promoting him to the MAX -- he has been touring since 1995 as a solo artist (mainly US venues, with the exception of touring worldwide with Sting). It's time to promote Chris outside of the US!! I'm very much enjoying "A Thousand Kisses Deep" as much as "Night Sessions". This CD has been on my CD player since that evening -- I've caught the Botti fever & i'm spreading it around... Keep the music coming, Chris Botti -- you have quite the gift!

Free Music Review: Almost made a mistake... Hit: 5 Stars
I ordered Chris Botti's "A Thousand Kisses Deep" on one morning and later decided that I did not want it because of harsh criticism of the cd from a close friend. However, fortunately, when I e-mailed the seller of the cd to let him/her know I had changed my mind and wanted the order cancelled, it had already been shipped. THANK GOODNESS!!!
With a bit of trepidation, I placed the cd in the player I have in my office. I was immediately transfixed, and transported to another world with his sound. I could hardly wait to leave the office so that I could play the cd in my car. WOW!!! What can I say?! Every time I play the cd -no matter what track is playing - I hear something I did not hear previously. In the past, I have listened mostly to the jazz saxophone, but Chris Botti has made me poignantly aware of how sweet, sensual, mellow, pure, earthy, funky, haunting, soothing, mesmerizing, and I could go on, a trumpet can sound/be in his capable hands. The work is simply marvelous - beyond words. Now, I am on Amazon again to purchase another of his cd's! "Night Sessions" sellers - I am ready!
Buyers, you will enjoy this cd. I am so very happy I did not listen to my friend in time to cancel the order!!!
(Ordered "Night Sessions" this morning - and I can hardly wait for it to arrive! Even spent a little more for the expedited delivery service!)
Free Music Review: WHAT A SENSUAL AND MOVING SOUND Hit: 5 Stars
Oh my! I had to actually stop what I was doing and just absorb every sound that was coming out of my cd player. Chris Botti has done it again. I have yet to be disappointed with anything he has every put out and I hope I never have that sensation. First Chris gives off some deliciously warm vibes with Indian Summer. Then he oozes sexuality with the tenderly kissed Do It In Luxury. Now Chris chimes in with his version of the Burt Bacharach classic The Look of Love. This version is sexier than Diana Krall's. Then he gently caresses the audio receptors with a sweet and loving A Thousand Kisses Deep. Now Chris (with Matthew Gerard and Bridge Benenate) puts pen to paper and writes the ever so gentle "dedication to the one I love" love song: Ever Since We Met. For a more neuvo jazzy feel, Chris swings it on Back Into My Heart. Time to slow things down just a bit with the lovely My Funny Valentine. The percussion infused The Last Three Minutes is a nice and slight change of pace. It reminds me of walking/strutting the streets while the mind goes elsewhere. If I Could requires the following: a hot cup of cappuccino, a fire in hearth and someone to cozy up to. Chris is a seriously talented man with a great future ahead of him. A Thousand Kisses Deep is a grand look into the soul and heart of such a talented young man.
