Free Music Notes for When I Fall in LoveFree Music Review: Slow Burn Hit: 5 Stars
The best way to describe what I hear when I listen to Chris Botti is a slow burn. The whole cd simmers with soft but intense sensuality. This is my favorite kind of music: exceptional melodies, respected and true to their origin but uniquely interpreted by extraordinary combinations of understated but undeniable arrangements. The traditional orchestral sounds are sophisticated and fresh creating a tapestry of genuine, gentle jazz sounds (try "My Romance" to understand what I mean). These standards he chose to include are truly some of my most favorite melodies of all time and he gives each song so much controlled passion it's delectable. The combinations of bass and trumpet for "What'll I Do?" could not be more perfect. "Let's Fall in Love," is swinging and true to Big Band reverence but Chris's interpretation is strikingly original. Sting's "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" is the single to release with it's lush, latin mood. The unaffected vocals of Paula Cole are a well chosen compliment to Botti's exceptional talent as is the keyboard genius of pianist Billy Childs.
Listen for Chris's spectacular jazz trumpet in guest appearances on other cd's (for example on Renee Olstead's new cd) as well.
If you thought "Thousand Kisses Deep" was one of the best cd's last year (I did too) wait until you hear this one! Chris was just getting warmed up. This is the cd that maximizes all of his talent. The entire production is fabulous. One of my favorite top 5 releases of '04.
Free Music Review: The boy has CHOPS! Hit: 5 Stars
I have enjoyed Chris' other recordings -- "Slowing Down THe World" is my personal favorite -- and his other work with other artists. With this cd I can't help but get the feeling that Botti wanted to exercise his "musical muscle". He can simply flat out play. He's got the chops.
I hope people will sit down and listen to it and not dismiss it as the usual "smooth jazz" shlock that has clogged the airwaves these days. WHEN I FALL IN LOVE is soo much more than that!
THere are no slick and cool beats accompanying CHris. (except for his verson of ORDINARY LOVE -- which is ok) THis is beautiful, and lush and as "straight ahead" jazz as you're going to hear these days. Smooth jazz stations may not know what to do with this cd.
All of these jazz standards get Chris full and beautiful tone ... his expression is flawless. The best tune on the cd is ONE FOR MY BABY. I can feel the vibe of the smokey bar, and the dirty bar glasses, and the familiar ring of "last call!" After hearing that one I was speechless. You just don't hear beauty like that anymore. CHris' version of TIME TO SAY GOODBYE reminds you that angels can play the trumpet.
If you're looking for a lush and romantic collection of jazz standards be sure to include this in your collection. Chris Botti will break your heart and then mend it with this cd.
Free Music Review: Get in the Zone Hit: 5 Stars
I had this CD for a while and couldn't make up my mind wether I like it or not. I listened to it a couple of times and there's a lot to like about this CD even though you feel like this CD was manufactured for nothing but success, success with the average audience. Chris Botti's trumpet is lush and right on as far as pleasing the New Wave jazz crowd. It's very romantic and makes a real nice backdrop to a much anticipated Valentine's Day Dinner. And there's some real nice vocals by Paula Cole and Sting. The songs are old standards and familiar but done with such aromatic flavor that it might sound new to some. I like this CD very much for what it is and people who are hard core jazz fans shouldn't be too snooty and dismiss it as easy listening pop stuff. Chris Botti has some real talent and with the abundance of sax out there, his trumpet is refreshing, but don't be in a hurry to compare him to Miles Davis yet, let alone Lee Morgan, nice music though, gets you in the romantic zone.
Free Music Review: BOTTI Creates An Experience Of Inner Peace, Solitude And Personal Compassion! Hit: 5 Stars
When Oprah Winfrey engaged Chris Botti to perform at a private wedding she organized, a wondrous, musical door opened for the world! Botti's playing allows all of us to sit back, relax and forget about the troubled world we live in. His conception of Irving Berlin's "What'll I Do?" is a musical experience that touches the soul deeply. The added collaboration between himself and Paula Cole's laid back, bluesy, reflective voice brings us back to the songs and days of the legendary Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and the many other ladies of song that illuminated their era! The entire recording is sensationally inspiring, and I only hope and dream that we will hear Chris Botti and Michael Buble creating something musically inspiring very soon!

Free Music Review: People amaze me.....and oneday hopefully..they WON'T Hit: 5 Stars
This guy is awesome..I need not say more, but I'm gunna. I'm totally laughing at the reviews, particualry because Chris added a rendition of Sade's "No Ordinary Love". OMG, the song is so beautiful, just as "Ever Since We Met" is on ATKD. I understand how and why artist get jaded, when their efforts aren't well recieved when they do great work...example (Chante Moore), but I digress. Their really isn't in my awesome opinion to much critque about this Chris Botti's work. I'm pretty sure these are the same people that hate the company APPPLE and their products..Well guess what ," The intelligent crowd is always smaller than the mainstream" My question is..Where do you land? All you psudeo critics I compare to the "Holier Than Thou" crowd, whom make me shout "Let's here it for SIN!". Chris is awesome, although his first cd "First Wish" was tad on the SNUZ side. However, the day I find fault in one of his new cd's.... call me and I'll eat my words as we do lunch on the moon.
