Free Music Notes for When I Fall in LoveFree Music Review: A Perfect Ballence Between The Jazz Of Yesterday & Today Hit: 5 Stars
With this Cd Chris Botti Blends the jazz sounds of yesterdasy and today and does it perfectly. those of us who were fermilier with Chris for being the trumpet player with Sting's band will not be disaponted. Sting Guests on a new track written just for this album. also in the mix is a voice gone to long in Pauila Cole. She's back and better then ever on the first single "What'll I Do". The other stand out traccks include "No Ordinary Love". A cover of the great Sade and "When I Fall In Love". I think my two favorite tracks both come from the classical/score type of music. First he covers my new favorite Score from Cinema Paradiso. A version that is even bettter then the one by Chello great Yo Yo Ma. and to finish off the CD he covers the timeless classic "Time To Say Goodbye" and makes it his own. For late night jazz that mixes old and new with the greatest of ease this CD is number one. For those romantics out there this is one you should not be without.
Free Music Review: My, my, my. Hit: 5 Stars
Mr. Botti has over the years continously up graded his sound. Less and less of the drab "Smooth Jazz" non-sense, to more of a definitive definition of what is Jazz, and what is "Junk". This Jazz CD, is likely his best work thus far in his musical career.
Mr. Botti has gone back and taken some Jazz standards, and introduced these standards to hopefully today's Jazz fans. I do hope this Jazz effort by Mr. Botti is given a fair hearing, by all Jazz fans, and not dismissed as "Old Style".
Real musical instruments accompany Mr. Botti here and less of the special effects. Even the vocal arrangement, is a joy to a Jazz lovers ears. Ms. Paula Cole puts out a very, very good performance on "How Love Should Be", wonderful is a tag I would put on this CD, oh and do not forget Mr. Botti's rendition of "When I Fall In Love".
All in all a well rounded CD, a Jazz lover's delight.
Mr. Botti, keep up the good work.
Free Music Review: The Point Is...... Hit: 5 Stars
One reviewer who alleged himself also a trumpet player in his article refer to Botti's music as "consistently "inside-the-box", reflecting little technical virtuosity or any real musical depth.", I think he might miss the scenario of Botti's music.
What's so fascinating about Chris Botti? His performing technique may not be so satisfying to some critics and counterparts, his taste to music as well ability to give old tunes a fresh soul with his handsome and sexy look coupling with boyish charm (It's hard to believe he is already 42) , however, is noteworthy. And the combination of these makes him a distinguishing and outstanding musician, and his music more than just jazzy-pop.
Other trumpet players may get better techniques, but listening to Chris Botti's music simply gives me comfort and visions:
How many elegantly good-looking and friendly trumpet player out there you can find to play music like this?

I came across Chris Botti's solo work through his association with Bill Bruford and Tony Levin.
If you haven't heard it already, I strongly recommend the CD "Blue Nights" (do a search on Amazon - it should be the first one that comes up).
"Blue Nights" is a live CD from the tour that supported "Bruford Levin Upper Extremities" (B.L.U.E.), and it is one of the best live experimental jazz sets you're likely to hear (2 CDs).
The thing I find most interesting about Botti's solo work versus his work with BLUE is that it represents such extremes: his solo work is hauntingly lovely romantic ballade covers, and his BLUE work is edgy, improv jazz.
Knowing both ends of Chris' musical spectrum only helps in a greater appreciation of his talents.
This is a diamond in the rough. Enjoy!

Free Music Review: Excellent album - very sexy Hit: 5 Stars
This is his best album yet. Since Midnight Without You, Botti has come out with several disappointing albums (they contain a a couple of good songs, but the rest are kinda "just there" - not memorable at all. Even his Christmas album is kinda boring to me). But here, he offers something that reflects his best strength - delivering that "sexy, airy, romantic" (remember his Andante from The Bach Variations?) feel to the songs. And although the songs are popular romantic tunes, his interpretation is classy, with just a touch of romanticism (not too sweet like Kenny G or Dave Koz). Also, this may sound harsh, but he kept his singing to a minimum (sorry, Chris, you're my favorite musician(!), but leave the singing to Sting). Last words: excellent choice of songs and superb performances by Chris, featured guests and orchestra.
