Free Music Notes for Carry onFree Music Review: Solo effort is strong and varied Hit: 5 Stars
This is a spectacular addition to the Chris Cornell song collection. As usual, his songs take a few listens before they begin to fully 'explain' themselves. Yes, there are a few songs on here that find a great stronghold in a more 'popular' avenue. However, the more accessible feel to the music does not override the deep emotions and content of the lyrics. Even if you've already heard this and put it aside... try it again. Listen to a few songs in a row and see how they fit together for you. He's ventured out, musically, on this album and has to trust his own 20 years of experience to fill in the music where he's had other musicians filling in before. To me, this effort is by far his best and the arrangements are full of interesting twists and turns, in regards to pacing and instrumentation. Get this one and let it take you away!
Free Music Review: A Classic Singer/ Song writer album like Euphoria Morning Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent album. This is the second (really third, as Temple of the Dog was essentially all written by Chris)solo album and it is another gem. Chris is constantly showing growth on every album he puts out. While Audioslave produced some A+ work I was still looking forward to another solo album. I hope this one does better in sales than the last one so he can keep putting out more new music on his own rather than in a "super group" of some form.
The Billie Jean remake is a major standout. Just as Johnny Cash did with Rusty Cage from Soundgarden and Hurt from Nine Inch Nails, Chris changes billie Jean up and makes it 100% his own.
There are a couple of songs where you can hear some of Tom Morrello's influence in the guitar work which was kind of cool to hear.
All in all another excellent album.
Free Music Review: Carry On - will grow on you!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I had read the reviews of the album (most of them negative) prior to purchasing the album. After the first listen I felt the negative reviews were accurate and had immediate buyers remorse. However, after listening to the album several more times I began to appreciate it more and more. I can listen to the album in it entirety with complete enjoyment. The only way one will like this album is if they are open to hearing Chris Cornell evolve into a more mature artist. The new album will definitely be out of your comfort zone but give it a listen, if you don't like it at first listen, take a break and give it another shot. I will put it to you this way, You Know My Name is one my least favorites songs to listen to and it was my main reason for purchasing the album
Free Music Review: The work of a more mature artist... Hit: 5 Stars
It's not wise to approach this album hoping to hear a continuation of Soundgarden or even Audioslave. I'll miss both of those of those groups, particularly the latter, since I was in the minority that actually preferred Audioslave over Rage or Soundgarden...
Nevertheless, Cornell isn't a kid anymore, and he's obviously interested in doing more with the rest of his career than trying to pen the next "Black Hole Sun" or "Like A Stone."
I get tired of artists "going solo" and releasing albums that sound like watered-down versions of their former bands (Serj, anyone?).
This album lies miles down the road from anything Cornell has done in the past. That's a good thing, just go in with an open mind.
Free Music Review: Great record! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm really surprised at all the bashing against this album. I have to say, I haven't read many favorable reviews for this anticipated album (which sometimes could sway my critique). I reluctantly purchased this yesterday and was blown away. The song writing is very strong and many of the chord progressions recall lots of Soundgarden. They were very strong in their later period to incorporate pretty unexpected chord and key changes. His voice sounds very strong and a bit rested too.
I honestly think this is a great record. There are some very cool laid back tunes and a bunch that truly rock out like he has in the past.
Key tracks are 'Poison Eye' & 'Scar On The Sky'.
