Free Music Notes for Still ClimbingFree Music Review: Best Hair Album of the 80's Hit: 5 Stars
Ooops, it was released in 1994! Well, it's true, this album blows away any hair band album of the 80's by a wide margin. Tom Keifer was a musical genius in hiding, because all the Cinderella albums were good (OK, forget about the song with Little Richard, everyone makes mistakes!) but this one is just awesome. This album is so rich in guitar sounds and lyrical content that it's a shame no one paid any attention when it was released. Many of the songs have 2, 3, or 4 guitar melodies working together to produce a single groove. Tom's voice is as good as ever, gravelly but with enough range to convey real emotion. The drums are also amazing, with a great, solid sound and imaginative beats and rhythms. The album is also well recorded with a great "wall-of-sound" impact but still retaining clarity of all the instruments.Lyrically, there is quite a bit of range from just party anthems to rockers to some really emotional material. I think I remember hearing that Keifers mother was really sick during the recording and one of the ballads was written about their relationship (The Road's Still Long?) All in all, if you liked 80's metal, buy this! I don't give this one 5 stars lightly, since I only give 5 stars to albums that are 10 year classics, like "Back in Black", "Last in Line", or "Headhunter". FYI, I loved the hair bands, I liked grunge (Alice in Chains, Sound Garden, not so much Nirvana), but I really hate the "Rage Metal" of the last of the 90's and early 2000's. I love the music I hear on the metal scene, but really hate the vocals (screaming isn't a talent, is it?)
Free Music Review: Cinderella's "Still Climbing" Hit: 5 Stars
The band Cinderella which got a record deal thanks to Jon Bon Jovi have had four albums including "Still Climbing". This album includes the song "hard To Find The Words" which the lead singer and guitarist, Tom Keifer, wrote for his mother when she died. This album contains some of Cinderella's best songs. It has great music and lyrics. This is one of Cinderella's greatest albums. This is a great album to buy if you like any of their other albums such as "Night Songs" (1982), "Long Cold Winter" (1988), and "Heartbreak Station" (1990). Not only is Cinderella a great rock band, but they've also toured with other great bands such as AC/DC. They outlived most of the other hairbands which died in the 80's and stayed together until 1994 to complete "Still Climbing" which is one of my favourite hard rock albums. Tom Keifer's lyrics in most of the songs are powerful and meaningful compared to other bands. All and all, "Still Climbing" is a great album to buy if you love hard rock or you just want to rock all day long to great music from a great band. Hopefully Cinderella will have a new album soon and go on tour with another band which was once a hair band like Tesla or Scorpions.
Free Music Review: The Musical Genius of Tom Keifer Hit: 5 Stars
Still Climbing is a more difficult album to appreciate than Heartbreak Station...not because it is any less of a musical achievement, but because of the album's tone. Whereas Heartbreak Station is pure listening enjoyment, Still Climbing is a testimony to a dark time in life, and grips the listener's attention with an almost painful intensity. Keifer's almost magical gift for lyrical and musical beauty shines through on such songs as "Through the Rain" and "The Road's Still Long," but the album is primarily memorable for its breath catching sadness. This may make it the best of Cinderella's albums, however, as it achieves the aim of the very best artists: To soften the darkest moments in the listener's life by the artist's willingness to share his own. The only rough spot on the album is "Hot and Bothered," which, although a good song, seems added at the end almost as an afterthought, detracting from the album's overall mood. Yet Still Climbing is another example of Keifer's musical genius...the genius hinted at in Night Songs, emerging in Long Cold Winter, and fully present in Heartbreak Station.
Free Music Review: Should have never given up on Cinderella Hit: 5 Stars
I can honestly say I did'nt bother with this album when it came out due to my feelings about heartbreak station but I must say I wish I had. Still Climbing brings back some of the earlier aspects of Cinderellas music while keeping some of the blues sounds from heartbreak station, only heavier. This is actually a perfect blend of hard rock and blues for me. I wish they would put out another album (other than live albums.) Fortunately jeff labar (guitarist) has released an amazing studio album with front man marcus allen christopher (Miss Crazy). The bands name is Freakshow and any fan of Cinderella should check out Freaksow's self titled release. For anyone who is wanting new studio Cinderella check it out and for anyone else as dumb as I was that had given up on Cinderella get this album. You can still find it descently priced used. They prove with Still Climbing that they are in fact doing just that and Freakshow will give you a look into some new riffs from LaBar that are just as rockin' as his Cinderella riffs. Hope you got something from this.
Free Music Review: One of biggest things that happened to rock music Hit: 5 Stars
Well, Cinderella is not my favorite band, but it's definitely one of rock's precious gems.
Cinderella, is a band of insanely talented musicians, they crafted some of most beautiful rock n' roll songs and ROCK BALLADS! But they never got the attention and exposure they deserved. Late 70's, 80's and early 90's had a baby boom in the world of rock n roll & metal. Some of them have grown up and aged to be rock legends, unfortunately some of the raw talent were left in the delivery room and weren't given the chance to prosper. Cinderella was one of the latter, it's those tie & suit people in highrise offices who literally killed dozens of talented bands, that was their fate, and here is the Album Still Climbing, songs of dissapointment, of what could have happened, of highs and lows of life. This is a very seriously thought album - precise picture of what Cinderella felt in their hearts. I own all Cinderella albums, this one is truly a heartfelt one.
