Free Music Notes for The Art Of The ThereminFree Music Review: A masterpiece of classical performance Hit: 5 Stars
The uninitiated reader may be under the mistaken impression that the Theremin is used only to make scary UFO noises on science fiction movies. Please allow me to assure you that this CD proves this entirely wrong: it is a fine performance of classical music on the theremin.Real music played on the theremin has a pure, sweet sound, like an electric violin. Check out the samples to get an idea what the album sounds like. If you like the theremin, or you're interested to hear what classical music sounds like on it, I'm sure you'll find this album and interesting, and probably enjoyable, experience.
Free Music Review: Superb Disc Hit: 5 Stars
The theremin was invented by Leon Theremin in the 1920's. It became so popular RCA was selling them and Theremin himself became the darling of the elite. It all came to a thundering conclusion when Theremin was kidnapped out of New York City by the KGB! This disc features his star performer, and by the way, a woman with whom he was deeply in love. She is a theremin player extraordinare! I have tried to learn to play it myself and I can tell you she is unbelievable! All of the pieces are classical on this disc. They include "The Swan" and Stravinsky's "bercuese". END
Free Music Review: THE ART OF THE THEREMIN Hit: 5 Stars
I HAVE HAD THIS CD FOR YEARS AND HAVE NEVER GOTTEN TIRED OF HEARING IT, ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE RIGHT MOOD TO REALLY APPRECIATE WHAT YOU ARE HEARING. THIS IS THE PREEMINENT THERMEIN RECORDING, BY THE PREEMINENT THEREMIN PERFORMER, CLARA ROCKMORE. HAUNTING, STRANGE, HYPNOTIC, YET MELODICAL, THE THERMEIN IS A VERY DIFFICULT INSTRUMENT TO PLAY, AND CLARA ROCKMORE WAS THE ONLY PERSON TO EVER REALLY "MASTER" IT. IF YOU WANT TO HEAR THEREMIN MUSIC, I GUESS THIS IS THE ONE CD YOU NEED TO GET.
Free Music Review: Nobody comes close to Clara Rockmore. Hit: 5 Stars
I also play the Theremin professionally. It is very difficult to hit any note dead on. People say that you can tell a Theremin player is playing off key because his hands are moving. Yet Ms Rockmore hits the notes dead on time after time. In fact, it is very difficult (I hesitate to say impossible) to find a mistake anywhere in this album. All this, combined with the selection of music and the piano accompanyment, make this a pleasent listening experience.
Free Music Review: Absolutely Amazing Hit: 5 Stars
If you're not familiar with the theremin you'll probably recognize it as one of the key special effects instruments in early sci-fi movies. The theremin is so much more than this, especially in the hands of Ms. Rockmore.
Accompanied by the piano, Ms. Rockmore reaches new heights with the first electronic instrument invented. Absolutely amazing.
