Free Music Review: Competition Over; Clay is Born!
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow. What can I say? I loved Clay from the start of American Idol to the finish and, personally, I wanted him to win. But, putting the competition aside and recognizing the fact that Clay and Ruben are no longer contestants but they are, indeed, artists just like anyone else out there, the focus should now be how good can their careers get. With talented song writers and colaborators, I believe that their albums will be thrill-rides, although I feel that they will be marketed to two very diffent fan groups.

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" is a very very great song, especially when Clay does it. Listening to the first track makes me nostalgic, remembering just a few weeks back when he rocked the country with his rendition of this classic tune! I feel that it bears the same warmth and grace as it did on live television yet it slightly lacks the spontaneity and good ol' southern twang that is characteristic of Clay's TV performances. A fair trade I feel, especially when you take into consideration that it was probably the producers of the single that "suggested" to Clay that he should reduce the drawl. Hopefully for his album, they grant him with a little more liberation. Other than that, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is an excellent Clay song, worthy of even the most skeptical of American Idol fans. Hopefully, they give this single a try.

"This Is The Night", is not as good of a song as "Bridge", but it still is a great song. You can't help feel the excitement of "Oh-my-God-this-is-Clay's-Single!!!" I do feel, though, like it was slightly rushed. And I'm sure it was, especially as the finale of the competition loomed closer and closer. I feel that the song lacks somewhat of a cohesion - the lyrics don't really flow, but instead, it as if they are a collection of thoughts that focus on a general subject. I also feel that the song writers try to write these "who's-going-to-win-the-title" songs with actually winning the competition in mind. There's nothing wrong with that, but how many different variations of "A Moment Like This" can they produce as long as American Idol is on the air. That is what I feel that "This Is The Night" is and, though some may call that accusation shrewd, I do not see that as necessarily a bad thing. I'm not trying to totally sneer the song into oblivion. I like the song a lot, I just think they could've done Clay's talent better justice.

That doesn't mean I won't listen to it over and over again, because I absolutely love Clay.

The single rocks! "Bridge Over Troubled Water" rocks! "This Is The Night" rocks too, just not as hard as "Bridge". Please get this CD! It's a great memoir to have in twenty years and you'll be able to say, "But see... this is what started it all!" Absolutely deserving of FIVE stars! Be sure to support Clay and Ruben when their albums come out and don't be afraid to vote for any future contestants on American Idol because you really never know who's career you could jump start.

Thanks for reading.

I've read many reviews here that compare Clay to the next Elvis or to Frank Sinatra. I don't agree with those people. I think that Clay is unique. He is "Clay" and no one compares to this young man. As a singer with a trained voice, I watched and listened to Clay the entire time that American Idol was on. The fact that he has no voice training even makes him more remarkable. He and Ruben were the best and they both surpassed Kelly and Justin from last year. Clay and Ruben have both out sold their single CD's from those two. I have many videos downloaded on my computer of Clay's performances and I have to say that his evolution over the span of the few months that we watched AI, he's the one who did the most work. He listened each and every week to how the judges told him to change and he did the homework and came back each week doing better and better. I like Ruben too but he didn't have to evolve like Clay was willing to do. Since I listened and also watched the videos of Clay through those many weeks, I have to say that he has his own unique voice and style. He can out sing anyone in this competition and he has proved it by his CD's sales and his ability to perform many different types of songs. Since I have the videos, I've listened to him hold notes longer than the music lasts. For an untrained voice, that's simply amazing and what's more amazing is "Watch Out" when this guy gets some voice training. I love the single CD that he made but as many have said... Leave the choir out of "Bridge Over Troubled Water!" Clay doesn't need it. His voice is better heard without them. I absolutely love "This is the Night!" It was perfect for his voice. In many songs, Clay shows his range like he did when he sang "Unchained Melody" and "Somewhere Out There." Clay can sing anything, any time and anywhere. I hope they put "Solitaire" on his CD because that was one of the best songs I've heard him sing. This young man can do it all with that incredible voice! If you just love music but have never heard of Clay, then buy his single CD. It's well worth the money. I only hope that ... or some other company will also sell his videos because if they do, I'll certainly buy them. I'm not a "teenybopper" or an "old lady" so there goes that theory. Clay is here to stay and I just hope he doesn't follow in Kelly and Justin's footsteps to make a movie that has totally bombed. Clay needs to record music, make videos and tour the country and overseas since his CD is selling very well there also. Good Luck to you Clay! Many of us already love you so keep singing!

Free Music Review: CLAY AIKEN - INTERNATIONAL IDOL
Hit: 5 Stars

WARNING
Beware RCA Records... Clay's CD should come with a warning from the Surgeon General... THIS CD IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. The best word to dscribe Clay's singing is mesmerising. As previous reviewers have commented, once you start listening to him it's very difficult to stop. Fortunately you can listen to his music over and over and over again and not get tired of it. As a vocalist he is the most exciting find since Eva Cassidy and Norah Jones.

THE X FACTOR
He is already a big star, and I believe that he has long-term staying power and will become a MASSIVE star because he has the same X factor as Elvis. It's difficult to pin down, but I'd describe it as a combination of the following: a naturally warm and generous personality, a good sense of humour, a confident and sparkling stage presence, and, in a cut-throat world of inflated egos and bitchy losers, a humility and graciousness that stands as a shining example. Ruben may be the American Idol, but Clay will be an International Idol because he has a voice that appeals to all nationalities, young and old, male and female. Just one day day after this single was released in New Zealand it entered our charts at #1. Hold on tight Clay, because just as many Amazon reviewers predicted, the world is falling in love with you and your golden voice.

THE VOICE!!!
It's hard to find words that do it justice. It is a superbly controlled rich voice that is warm and gentle, yet has such awesome power that it can make your hair stand up on end. Luckily he knows how to use it too, because a Stradivarius is not much use if you don't know how to play it. He has a great sense of phrasing and rhythm as well as a lovely subtle vibrato.

In a musical desert of rap and insipid pop singles that tend to rely on hi tech or sexy videos to make an impact, it's great to find an oasis - a versatile singer with a world class voice who sings great melodies. What more could you ask for?

Guest judge Lionel Richie's question "Who ARE you?!!!" can finally be answered. Clay Aiken is an international chart-topping superstar who has reviewers all over the world thinking, hmmmm... how do you spell phenomenal?

I feel sorry for his special needs students. I don't think they'll ever get him back, because not the world is full of people with 'special needs'... we neeeed Clay!!! Now that AI is finished we're having withdrawal symptoms - we're shakin' without Aiken!

Free Music Review: A star in the making!
Hit: 5 Stars

Where do I even start about this CD? Granted, it's a single, which means that it's only 2 songs, but these two songs are enough to leave me wanting more and keep me coming back. Having watched Clay from the beginning of his journey (his start in Atlanta during the American Idol auditions) through until now, I can honestly say that his vocal range is truly impressive and this CD shows a great deal of that range, despite a bit of over-producing on the part of RCA.

"Bridge over Troubled Water" is a soulful throwback to singers like Simon and Garfunkel who originally recorded the song, and others of that era. Clay's particular rendition of BOTW, as Paula Abdul stated on the show, was great enough to make us feel as if we're hearing the song for the very first time, despite the fact that it's obviously been recorded before.

"This is the Night", an original song, captivated millions from the very first note when he sang it on the show, and this recording of it is no exception. Clay takes the lyrics and wraps his voice around every single note. He brings the performance from beginning to end with such power and dignity that it's hard to ignore the fact that he's had almost no vocal training outside of the work he did with a coach on American Idol. He breathes life into lyrics that could very easily go flat if it had been given to any other performer.

He is already being compared to the likes of Frank Sinatra and even Elvis in terms of the loyalty he's received from fans and for his unwavering song choices. The quality of the songs he's covered on the show was superb and chosen specifically with his vocal range in mind - even taking an off-night into account. I have no doubt that any future offerings from him would be of equally high quality. He's brought a sense of style that's been missing from the music industry for quite a few years now.

We can definitely expect great things from Clay Aiken in the future. This is only the beginning of a very bright and promising career. Congratulations, Clay! You've made it!

Free Music Review: Record Breaker
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes, that is right. Clay Aiken will be (if he hasn't already) breaking a record for having the fastest single to ever make it to number one. Why am I so sure of this you might ask. I could go on and on filling all of your brains with countless reasons but I will just make this short and to the point. He may have not been crowned the title of American Idol by Fox but he was crowned the winner by millions of fans all over the world. He has a voice like no other...one that sends chills throughout a person's entire body. Not since the Beatles and Elvis have women of all ages been in such a funk over a musical icon. He has even won the hearts of the male sex and individuals of all races, ethnicities and races. Why is Bridge Over Troubled Water and This Is The Night two record breaking songs? This is simple to answer. I almost never agree with Paula Abdul but Clay took a classic song with Bridge Over Troubled Water and made it all into his own. A person feels as if he or she is hearing it for the very first time. This Is The Night is an original and Clay has made it into a song that listeners will request for years to come. The American Idol judges may have been against it but really what they think makes no difference anymore. This Is The Night is filled with amazing lyrics and portrays the depth of Clay's voice. Clay has been number one at Amazon.com since going on sale and has been at the top of several other musical charts. The real winner will be chosen with the pocketbook and not by questionable voting processes. It might not be the "hip" or "in" thing for some people to say how much they love Clay-a singer that you can actually understand and enjoy every word he is singing. Much of our society today would rather gloat about artists who mumble and are almost never in tune becauase that is the politically correct thing to do. But when it all comes down to it, the money will only be dished out to that performer who truly won your vote. No doubt that performer will be Clay Aiken.
