Free Music Notes for Bridge Over Troubled Water/This Is The NightFree Music Review: Fantastic debut from a phenomenal singer Hit: 5 Stars
With this single, Clay Aiken shows that he has true potential to break free of the American Idol mold and establish himself as a serious recording artist. The first track, "Bridge Over Troubled Water," puts a fresh but respectful spin on a familiar classic. Clay gets to showcase his rich lower range, and he infuses aching emotion into every phrase. This song really emphasizes the superior quality of his voice to nearly every other American Idol contestant, as well as some other modern vocalists; his vowels are pure, the words are understandable, his breath control is remarkable. While some have found the addition of the gospel-esque choir distracting, I felt it enhanced the song while still letting Clay's voice soar above. And the last note of the song is just as breathtaking as it was when he first performed it live. Overall, a beautiful song that is definitely worthy of more than one listen. His original song "This is the Night" is a sharp contrast to the first, but still wonderful. The tone of this one begins more hushed and expectant, growing as the song progresses until it reaches the emotional climax at the bridge, then returning back down to a quiet and restrained end. Clay handles the dynamic and feel changes like a pro, not just blasting his way through. He also gets to show off the higher end of his range, ending with the beautiful nearly-falsetto note. While some of the lyrics are admittedly simple, the music is touching and memorable, and in the words of American Idol judge Randy Jackson, Clay really makes it his own. Another great song, also worthy of more than a few listens. I haven't bought a single in years, but i made an exception for Clay. And I can honestly say that this is one of the best CDs I've bought in quite a while. I highly recommend this single, and will be waiting (impatiently!) for the release of Clay's full-length CD.
Free Music Review: Clay Aiken, Second To None! Hit: 5 Stars
I first saw Clay Aiken - American Idol audition (by accident), there was something special about him - I didn't knew what it was. But after he sang - all I could say was WOW! I love this guy! I've been a Clay Aiken fan from that moment. I pre-ordered four of his Cds. God gave Clay a powerful, fantastic voice and he sings with tremendous passion. Thank you, Clay!!!"Bridge Over Troubled Water": Producers - next time please keep the voices of the "backgroung singers" in the "background" where they belong. Clay's beautiful voice couldn't be heard clearly enough. But I still play this CD over & over & over again. I'm addicted to Clay and his voice. "This Is The Night": a beautiful song, destined to be a classic. He sings it extremely well. His voice range shines---Love them both. I rate this CD with only five stars because that's all they will accept here. Clay's talent is diverse; he hits those note beautifully. It's refreshing to finally have a singer whose voice I'm always anxious to here. Everything Clay sings is great. I didn't like the song 'Grease' before, but now I want to here Clay sing it again. The ratings on Amazon and other Internet sites clearly show who the TRUE American Idol is. Clay has been consistently #1 for at least three weeks (#2 briefly). Various articles mention that Clay's single topped Ruben's 4 to 1 in pre-orders. I'm anxious for his full-length CD to be released in August/September 2003. Clay's debut single is only a preview of better thing to come, a 'teaser'. Clay is going to have an amazing career. I'm proud to be his fan from the beginning. I will purchase his Cds the day of release and pre-order copies as well. This CD and future Clay Aiken Cds are for people who want to expand their musical enjoyment. Don't stay stuck in a musical rut. Buy this CD!!! You will enjoy it.
Free Music Review: Clay is absolutely amazing Hit: 5 Stars
I have loved Clay since the first time I saw him in auditions. His voice moved me then, and continues to move me now.It is refreshing to hear such a beautiful voice in todays music scene. While I quiver when Clay hits the "glory" notes he is famous for, I shiver when he hits his lower register. His voice is amazing. "Bridge Over Troubled Water": I can agree that the choir is a bit overwhelming, but I think it adds to the dramatic presentation of this re-make. I am 30 years old and have to vigorously rub my arms to get the goosebumps to go away! I love this song and Clay's rendition. "This Is The Night": Another beautiful song. Clay's voice rings pure and true and this heartfelt ballad. When I listen to this song, I am totally enthralled by the beauty in his voice. I know I am beating a dead horse, but Clay should have been the "winner" of the American Idol title. Numerous polls that are going on right now, have Clay beating Ruben (the "winner") 90% to 10%. The polls mainly ask questions such as "Whose single do you feel will do better in the market?" Additionally, Clay has been #1 on Amazon for weeks, while Ruben is sitting at #5. Clay is currently #1 on several radio stations across the USA. I have gone in many stores that have been sold out of Clay's CD, while Ruben's is waiting patiently to be picked up. While I would have liked to have seen Clay have his moment of glory by being crowned "American Idol", I strongly believe he is better off as he has more options. Sales will tell the truth, as they have been since the release of both Clay and Ruben's CD's. Clay has one of the best, if not the best, voices I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. I know that he is here to stay, and he will only improve (if that is even possible!). We love you, Clay!! Love, A Claymate
Free Music Review: Be Still, My Heart Hit: 5 Stars
As a big Clay Aiken fan, when I heard that Clay was going to close the American Idol competition with Bridge Over Troubled Water, I was worried. This is not merely a song - it is an icon - a piece of rock history. How could anyone, even Clay Aiken, hope to approach the beauty of that first vocal interpretation by Art Garfunkel? The answer - take it in a completely different direction. Yes, there are moments when the choir and the orchestra are a bit distracting, but THE VOICE shines through. It's like Clay Aiken meets the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir! Artie's classic reading of Bridge was spiritual and emotionally wrenching. Clay's version is fun, vibrant, and triumphant! I can't wait to hear Clay sing it live and feel that last note shake the rafters! This is the Night is my current favorite song. I've heard some people call the lyrics trite. I say they express ideas that are universal and eternal. If that's the definition of trite, then so be it. With its expressions of the rapture of true love, this song is destined to become a standard for weddings (I'm learning it for that very purpose even as we speak). As much as I love the song as a whole, my favorite part is the very last note, practically whispered - airy, light, floating... It absolutely aches with sincerity, devotion, hope... How many years has it been since I have heard a singer who can express such emotional range so effortlessly, that he can carry us from joy to despair and back again with the turn of a phrase, a whisper, a shout, a look, the wave of a hand? Clay Aiken is a newcomer to the music world, and he is young and still has a lot to learn, but he is going to be around for a long, long time. I can hardly wait for his full length CD to come out, but I'm willing to wait for it. I know it will be worth waiting for.
Free Music Review: Clay? Less than 5 stars? Never! Hit: 5 Stars
Clay Aiken was my favorite contestant since the semifinals and grabbed my attention before that with his rendition of Always and Forever at his very first audition. Simon Cowell asked him before he started, "Why are you here?" Clay responded, "I ah.. I'm the American Idol!" It would later come to light that Clay--a remarkably humble man--didn't think he might actually win until the final show (and before he saw the infamous cue card). But Clay's fans, including me, believed he could and should win.Fast forward to today and Clay is known as the "runner-up" but Clay's fanbase is as strong as ever. And after a month of anticipation, Clay's single has finally been released. I'm not the kind of person that typically can listen to a two-song CD on repeat for hours, but this one has the power. Admittedly, I do prefer Clay live. And how many artists in this day in age sound better live? Clay is a great anomaly in that respect. But regardless, he is still enjoyable on this double-A single. I believe that This Is the Night and Bridge Over Troubled Water balance each other out and thus make it so repeat-friendly. The single's weaknesses have nothing to do with Clay himself. Various people, including myself, have complained about the choir overpowering Clay in Bridge Over Troubled Water. Clay's voice is definitely strong enough on its own; it does not need a group of backup singers to overshadow it. Bridge also ends with a harp on speed or something that's also unnecessary. This Is the Night, the first of the two to be released, lacks the excess of Bridge and is thus the more solid single, in my opinion. I think I prefer Clay's vocals on Bridge better but they're outstanding on both. In short, it's a solid release from my favorite new artist.
