Free Music Review: A Holiday Classic for everybody
Hit: 5 Stars

Merry Christmas With Love by Clay Aiken is a must have for anyone who loves classic Christmas music. Oh Holy Night is simply beautiful and shows his lower range, he puts is own spin on it without overdoing it. Winter Wonderland has a old sound to it and I can imagine someone in the background doing a softshoe, top hat and all. My favorite is Silent Night, it is simply stunning. Silent Night has been sung so many times and butchered by many I got so tired of hearing it. Clay does such an outstanding job, it is beautiful. I can imagine being in a church with just a few candles lit and Mary holding her little baby. The medley he does, Hark the Herald/Oh Come all Ye Faithful is another beautiful example of Clay's pure voice. Joy to the World is exactly that, Clay's joy shining through, his joy to Jesus. The Christmas song and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is an example of what I call more of winter songs than Christmas songs but still evokes a classic feeling. Mary Did You Know is another standout song. I picture Clay singing that song only to Mary, it will give you goosebumps. Don't Save it all for Christmas Day is another one of my favorites. It has a jazzy feel to it, I believe Clay really owns this song. I think Celine would be impressed. The last song on the CD is called What are you doing New Year's Eve. This song reminds me of the big band era. I picture Clay up on stage with one of those big Microphones they used then, a tuxedo on, singing his heart out. A very classy number. Merry Christmas with Love is a CD with classic songs, arrangements and pure Clay Aiken vocals. If you were looking for a "pop" sound, you won't find it, instead you will be listening to a CD that can be played for the next 50 years. Even if you are not a Clay Aiken fan, I believe that if you are a fan of what Christmas music should sound like, you will be amazed at this CD.

Free Music Review: Kudos for Clay!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Clay does his best work to date - and that is saying a lot! This CD is perfect for getting in the Christmas mood while driving along, or perfect background music while decorating the tree or having Christmas dinner, or it is fantastic just to listen to and focus on Clay's amazing voice.

Please be advised that the order on the CD is actually different from what appears here on Amazon and what is listed on the back of the CD jewel case. The order that they actually ended up using works much better and flows very nicely. Actual order is: 1) O Holy Night, 2) Winter Wonderland, 3) Silent Night, 4) Medley: Hark the Herald Angels Sing / O Come All Ye Fatithful, 5) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, 6) Mary, Did You Know, 7) Joy to the World, 8) The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire), 9) Don't Save It All For Christmas Day, 10) Merry Christmas With Love, 11) Sleigh Ride, 12) What Are You Doing New Year's Eve.

I was so happy to hear one of my favorite but seldom heard holiday songs "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" Clay gives it a little more pep than the sometimes melancholy versions. Clay absolutely knocks it out of the park with "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" - I dare you not to get chills! And "Merry Christmas with Love" is a truly amazing song and a very appropriate name for the album.

I know this will be one of my favorite Christmas albums, even years and years from now when I am on old grandma. :) I know I will listen to it every year. There is a little bit of everything in here. The touching songs, the beautiful classics, the upbeat fun songs, you name it.

I also want to congratulate Clay on including a page in his linear notes devoted to the Bubel/Aiken foundation. Here is a guy who isn't just talk - he "practices what he preaches." Way to go, Clay!

Free Music Review: An album you'll play year after year.....
Hit: 5 Stars

After nearly giving up on popular holiday albums, I had relegated mostly instrumentals and chorales to play non-stop through the holidays. Then along came "Merry Christmas With Love". A friend e-mailed me and told me to...RUN...to Amazon and pre-order this album. And, I did. Since it arrived last month I have put it on repeat...repeat....repeat. You get my drift.

My favorites: #1 Silent Night. Clay's pure voice gives beautiful reverence to this song. The backgrounds are expertly unobtrusive so that Clay's voice is central to this song...the most beautiful Christmas hymn ever written. I heard his version playing in a store the other day and I noticed other people STOPPING. Just to listen. #2 Mary Did You Know. Truthfully, before I put this CD into my player for the first time, I had NEVER heard this song before. The first time, I played it once to experience the song. Twice to focus on the lyrics. Three times to pay attention to the production. Four times to let Clay's amazing voice fill my head. Ahhh....I can't get this song out of mental replay. #3. Don't Save It All For Christmas Day. Here is where Clay's soaring voice shows off his range. What lovely lyrics and music...thanks to the talented Miss Dion. Note to Celene...this isn't your song anymore...sorry! #4. Merry Christmas With Love. Lovely. Wistful. Emotional. This young man is able to put all those feelings into this one song. Again, I had never heard this song before, and in the last three weeks I've heard several other artist's version. Clay has brought something extra to this Sandy Patty song with his vocal purity and emotional interpretation. This album will become one of the great Christmas Classics. And I'd bet money that it won't be Clay's last Christmas album. Beautiful...just beautiful.

Free Music Review: Clay's Voice Finally Recorded Properly!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a Clay fan who loves Clay's voice live, but was a little disappointed at the less-than-stellar production values of his Measure-of-a-Man CD and "Bridge over Troubled Water" single that muddied his gorgeous voice with effects and in the case of the latter, an oppressively-loud choir. It speaks to the magitude of Clay's vocal talents that those recordings are still very much worth listening to despite not showcasing his voice as well as they could have. I have heard Clay sing live several times, and it is THAT amazing voice that I wanted to also hear on recordings.

Clay's last commercial single, "Solitaire," was a vast improvement and a very beautiful recording (also highly recommended).

On "Merry Christmas With Love," the very best producers were utilized, and this Christmas album is a giant leap to another realm of quality. Clay's voice is front and center. His lyricism, phrasing, warmth, joy, and resonant tones make every song special. This is literally the best Christmas album I have ever heard.

There's also a wonderful variety in song style, with the soulful "Oh Holy Night," a playful, energetic "Sleigh Ride", mellow-toned, sensual "Mary, Did you Know," tender and pure "Silent Night," seductively romantic "What are you doing New Year's Eve?," a rendition of "Merry Christmas with Love" that really does bring the love along with some gorgeous deep register tones, and an extraordinary rendition of "Don't Save it all for Christmas Day" that simply can't be expressed in words and must be heard.

Now I don't even usually like Christmas music all that much, but this CD is such pure pleasure to listen to that this year, I'm going to make a very big exception.
