Free Music Notes for Merry Christmas With Love

Free Music Review: Instant Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

I may be the only person in the states who doesn't watch American Idol. Even so, I knew who Clay was. Having recently heard a song of his, I was very impressed with his voice. Since I have a habit of taking a chance on new artists with Christmas music, I decided I'd try out this CD. Am I ever glad I did!

Clay has a smooth, strong voice that is a pleasure to listen to. Backed by some great instruments, it felt like Christmas right off the bat.

Of course, part of that may be the song selection. He makes his way through the usual suspects. "O Holy Night," "Silent Night," "Sleigh Ride," "The Christmas Song," "Winter Wonderland," and "Joy to the World" all make appearances here. The arrangements and Clay's voice mange to keep them from feeling tired and familiar, however.

Also included are modern classics "Mary, Did You Know?" and "Don't Save it All for Christmas Day." I was surprised when I realized which song the title song was. I've only heard it one place before, Sandi Patty's first Christmas CD. And Clay manages to make me forget the Sandi version, a very hard feat indeed. I'm not familiar at all with "What are You Doing New Year's Eve?" but I like this version of the song.

I'm going to have to go back and check out Clay's other release and pay more attention to those on American Idol. If you love Christmas music, you need this CD. It's already claimed a spot between Johnny Mathis and Nat King Cole, high honors from me indeed.

Free Music Review: WOW where did this guy come from??????
Hit: 5 Stars

So, I went out at lunch time to buy this CD because I heard someone played Mary Did You Know for me at the office. I have to apologize to this person now because I have been making fun of them for being a Claymate. This is the guy that all the DJs and critics are taking potshots at? I just can't believe this guy's voice. I admit I've never really listened to him except that song Invisible and although it's catchy and his voice is strong--I just had no idea he could sing like this--I'm totally and utterly amazed. I don't think I've ever heard a voice like this.

The songs on here are classics and the ones I am familiar with I feel like I've heard them for the first time. I remember Kenny Rogers did Mary Did You Know but it certainly didn't sound anything like the version on this CD. I really like the song Don't Save it All for Christmas Day--WOW, again I'm blown away. I had never heard Merry Christmas With Love or What are You Doing New Year's Eve--they sound classic but they're new to me so these were a really pleasant surprise.

I'm not a very religious person but some of the songs Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and O Holy Night touched me in a way I haven't felt for a long, long time.

Debbie, this is my public apology to you for rolling my eyes at you, making fun of your obsession, and not listening to what you had to say. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for introducing me to such a remarkable talent.

Free Music Review: Ease into the Christmas spirit
Hit: 5 Stars

I have to say this cd is great! I'm not a big fan but I did like Clay Aiken just enough before I listened to this cd but wow, this album just made a big believer out of me. The guy has an amazing voice. His range is up there with the best of them and he's an all-around, nice guy to boot.

However, let me concentrate on the Christmas aspect itself. The songs are quite beautiful and the cd just segues effortlessly from one song into the next one. This is greatly appreciated as one previous reviewer put it, where Clay had one too many producers in his last cd and it sounded very "mixed". Not so here where you can really feel the harmony that went into the planning. The songs are carefully chosen and produce a mix of old and new classics. No doubt it'll get you feeling all Christmas-y starting now.

And now for the important part, Clay's voice...wow! The man can definitely sing! Every single song's a big winner but the big standouts were, for me, O Holy Night and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. He sings powerfully from the heart and infuses big feeling into this important holiday. No big style experiments anywhere just a great singer with great, classic Christmas songs that'll have you craving the first few snowflakes, cocoa, and mistletoe just right about when you pop this into your cd player. Jewel's "Joy" used to be my soundtrack of choice for setting up the tree...not this year! A true, definite 10!

Free Music Review: Christmas is supposed to be a time for JOY!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Christmas is supposed to be a time for joy and happiness, yet the 1-star spammers have found a way to ruin it. "Merry Christmas With Love" is a great album, but unfortunately many others want you to believe otherwise. The same people continue to post the same negative reviews over and over again. Unfortunately, some of the other Idol fan groups are jealous of Clay's sales and popularity and will take any and every opportunity to put him down. No wonder none of the Idols got Grammy nominations. The Recording Academy is probably tired of all this childish behavior and didn't want any part of it. Sadly, talented people like Clay Aiken suffer because of the rude behavior of others. I wish some of these people would grow up because they're embarrassing themselves and the fan groups that they are a part of. Amazon.com is probably so sick and tired of people using the review section as a message board. I shouldn't have to post a lecture, but the time has come. So please STOP spamming and leave Clay alone.

Free Music Review: Gifted and Talented
Hit: 5 Stars

From the moment I saw Clay Aiken on American Idol, I knew that he was truly a unique and gifted singer. And sometimes with unique and gifted also comes resistance. Unfortunately, many like to push away things that seem foreign and new. They want everything to remain the same and not change. And sadly Clay has faced a lot of hatred and animosity. Being on top brings praise and anger. But I only have praise for "Merry Christmas With Love." Clay definitely pours his heart and soul into this recording. Finally, he was given that opportunity. No one holding his potential back or cracking the whip this time. It's all Clay. And fortunately he found producers that are equally as sharp. When that happens, you get a great recording. Is this Frank Sinatra? No. It's Clay Aiken. He sounds different and that's what gives this CD part of its character. Clay's not trying to be anyone else, but himself. And that's exactly what you get. Is this CD a classic? Yes, because Clay gives a top-notch performance. You have to judge this CD based upon what he's capable of giving. And after 1 TV show, 1 debut CD, 2 singles, and 3 tours in a little under 2 years, Clay still has enough in him to give all he's got and then some. We should all be asking, "When does he get a vacation?" instead of, "Where can I catch the `Joyful Noise Tour?'" his fourth. This is a great holiday album and I would encourage you to pick it up and give it a listen.
