Free Music Notes for On My Way HereFree Music Review: Clay's back Hit: 5 Stars
My mom discovered Clay not from American Idol, but from his Christmas album. Then, she bought the other albums, Measure of a Man, and later, A Thousand Different Ways. She told me that she frequently listened to the Christmas one year round because she liked it better. Measure of a Man was okay, and she really didn't like A Thousand Different Ways. I heard it, and I know what she was saying. He seemed to have lost his soul in that album. I know it was a hard time for him.
I was at Barnes and Noble, looking for a Mother's Day gift, and I ran across this CD quite by chance. I didn't even know he had put a new one out. I thought it was worth risking it being as soulless as A Thousand Different Ways. My mom listened to it once, and came in from her car (where she listens to her CDs mostly) after coming home from church with a huge smile on her face. "Clay's back," is what she told me.
I listened to it, and I agree. His songs have soul and heart in it again. It's one of those intangible things that are there, but you can't really place your finger on what "it" is. But it's back in this CD. I don't have any of Clay's other albums on my iPod, but when I heard this one, I fell in love with it too. It was a gift for my mom, but I had to listen to it too. It's a wonderful album for any collection.
Free Music Review: Something for (nearly) everyone Hit: 5 Stars
Simply put, this is the best mainstream pop album I've heard in years, maybe decades. Stylistically it has a little something for everyone, and Clay's incredible voice and talent is able to pull it all off convincingly and with beauty. The "nearly" disclaimer is for those of you who want him to rap or use foul lyrics, which are both completely out of his character. But want R&B? Want rock? Want standard upbeat pop? Want something with country influence? Want the ballads he rose to fame on? Want modern electronics? Want old-fashioned acoustic or strings? The album literally has a little of everything (good) a listener could want. (The i-Tunes version also has a gospel track as a bonus.)
Moreover, Clay has said that lyrics was one of his first and major focuses for choosing songs, so you know that all of the songs were handpicked not to be mere auditory candy fluff but to encourage people to feel and think. Not content to be just another cookie-cutter popstar, Clay has aspired to be an advocate and have a social conscience in this hectic world where we live. Even that shows up on (or inside) the album. This has to be Clay's best musical offering yet, and I've been a fan since he walked into that Atlanta audition and said "Hello."
Free Music Review: Clay At His Most Introspective Hit: 5 Stars
"On My Way Here" is a well crafted album that undeniably shows that Clay Aiken and team (Foster and Kipper) have spent a lot of time and energy creating.
The broad range of all original material on this album is solid and it showcases genres from ballad, to up-tempo, to soft or pop rock. This diversity demonstrates the versatility of Clay as an artist and the songs here represent Clay's maturation as a talented performer.
Above all that, the one thing that shines through is that polished, beautiful, honey-sweet, magnificent, soaring vocals. As much as I love all the songs, it is Clay's voice that makes listening to the cd again and again and again, magical and irresistible.
Here too, is Clay at his most introspective with lyrics that purportedly represent his experiences of having been in the public's eye. However, listeners can also "emo-personally" connect to each song as we bring our take to the table when we reflect on our own experiences.
There is definitely something for everyone and I recommend this album to anyone who appreciates different musical genres, a captivating and accomplished vocalist, and a great talent.
Free Music Review: Clay Rocks Hit: 5 Stars
Clay rocks ..... who knew. Clay does R&B .... Huh.
Yes, it's true. There are at least a couple songs on this CD that seem like pop rock to me & not particularly lite pop rock & 1 with an R&B sound ..... and they are great. In fact, there are quite a few uptempo songs on this CD, but there are also beautifully gentle & powerful ballads. I would have to say there is something for everyone on this CD ... a little of everything for everybody.
I cannot stop listening to:
Ashes
Everything I Don't Need
Falling
I love with a passion:
On My Way Here
Lover All Alone (co-written by Clay)
Light a fire in the fireplace, get a glass of wine & listen to:
Something About Us
Be inspired by:
Weight of the World
Grace of God
Just enjoy & think of love:
Where I Draw the Line
As Long as We're Here
Sacrificial Love
Stop & reflect while you listen to:
The Real Me
Needless to say, I like this CD very much, & I recommend it to you.
Free Music Review: Pure Listening Pleasure Hit: 5 Stars
This great mix of songs can very well comprise Clay Aiken's breakout CD. It is Clay's best work to date. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised.
Included in this diverse collection are beautiful moving ballads, mid tempo foot-tappers and even some R&B. There is something for everyone. A true music lover who enjoys different genres of music will really appreciate this one. The most amazing thing for me is I am enjoying listening to the entire CD, I haven't had the desire to skip a single song.
Clay Aiken still has the golden voice that made him a star - better than ever as it is now sprinkled with experience and maturity. In the ballads, his voice is pure and filled with emotion and passion. In the uptempo songs, his voice is strong and soars. I have to admit, it is hard to listen to Clay sing any of these songs without getting chills.
This is the CD I've been waiting years for, the best I've heard in over a decade.
I am surprised at how much I really love this CD - I plan to buy a few more copies for Mother's Day, I can't think of a better gift for my mom, sister-in-law and aunts for under $10.
