Free Music Notes for On My Way HereFree Music Review: Very pleasant surprise Hit: 5 Stars
I loved Clay on Idol and eagerly bought his first CD, only to be disappointed by the plastic sameness of the tracks (a problem with many Idol CDs it seems). His Christmas CD was, however, excellent, so I again ran out to get his next CD hoping for more of the same. Alas, it was a bunch of tired and bland covers, though his voice actually sounded OK on it. So when he released his latest CD a few months ago I didn't bother getting it. My mistake. I was given an iTunes gift card for my birthday and there was nothing I really wanted so in the end I downloaded Clay's latest album. Wow! Finally, good songs, varied songs, and a return to the voice I remember from Idol (well, almost). Since downloading it a couple of weeks ago I have hardly stopped listening to it, and it hasn't gotten tired yet. From the funky "Everything I Don't Need" to the mournful "Sacrificial Love" and the upbeat "Ashes," there isn't a bad song on the CD. I'm just sorry it took me so long to buy it.
Free Music Review: The Mature Adult Clay Hit: 5 Stars
I love this album because the subject matter is mature and Clays choice of the songs for this CD shows how much he has matured and that voice has also matured beautifully. I loved the way he sang the songs on AI2 and his Jukebox Tour and thoroughly enjoyed his fun songs on his latest tour. But he is almost 30 years old and he wants to sing songs that have meaning to him at this time in his life and songs he enjoys singing. This album is wonderful for its lyrics, its production and of course that voice. His voice doesn't get lost in the production, it stands out as it should. Just like Sinatra I will purchase anything Clay puts out because I enjoy his voice and his way with a song. Somewhat sadly we all have to grow up and thats what Clay is doing. He can't just stay as he looked and sing what he sang on AI2. This is really a fabulous albums. Like some have stated you may have to listen to it a few times but you will soon get it. And I bet you will play it over and over.
Free Music Review: That Voice! Hit: 5 Stars
Clay's voice is what first caught my attention and with the eclectic mix of songs on this album - ballads, pop, jazz, light R&B - his voice is what keeps me listening.
My only 'complaint' is that I haven't been able to choose a favorite song! A few stand outs for me:
The soft, breathy vocals with simple instrumentation give a jazzy, romantic feel to "Something About Us".
The plaintive vocals, piano, and Celtic fiddle combine to make "As Long As We're Here" compelling and beautifully haunting.
How Clay's voice becomes one with the cello on "Love All Alone" is amazing. I also love the lyrics to this song. It's like a stream of consciousness set to music.
There are more.... I like them all so much, which is a rarity. This album has the potential to become a classic. An excellent effort & well worth the wait for original music from Mr. Aiken!
Free Music Review: An Awesome Work Of Art Hit: 5 Stars
Just finished listening to the album On My Way Here. I just loved it, one of his best. Clay got to put the songs he wanted on this cd, and it shows. The song On My Way Here shows his journey through his life, and its a beautiful song. He has many upbeat songs on here, like Ashes, Where I Draw The Line, Weight Of The World. Everything I Don't Need just blew me away. It has a little rhythm & blues and it rocks. I just love Fallen. He did this in his lower register, and oh my it is sexy. Something About Us is a beautiful love song, one of my favorites. The Real Me is a tearjerker and I love it. As Long As We're Here is inspirational. Grace Of God has a Christian sound to it, and Sacrificial Love is wonderful, and last but not least is Lover All Alone is hauntingly beautiful and Clay wrote this one. All in all, hard to pick too many favorites, as I love them all. Very good and a work of art.
Free Music Review: Amazing Vocals - Clay's Best Yet!! Hit: 5 Stars
For anyone thinking this may be a "typical" Clay Aiken CD with mostly ballads, you'll be surprised! Also, there are no covers as on his last CD. Clay hand-picked all these songs himself.
The songs on this CD are varied--from R&B, Jazzy to rockin' ones!! Many people may only have heard the title song, On My Way Here, which is catchy and will do well on the radio, but you really need to hear all of them. Ashes, Falling, Everything I Don't Need are a little different from what clay has done in the past and are fabulous! I'm hoping these get radio play also to do them justice. I also love Where I Draw The Line which has a little country feel. The last song, Lover All Alone, written by Clay is beautiful. I only hope he continues to write in the future. Clay has such a smooth beautiful tone to his voice--no one can go wrong buying this CD! I can't stop listening to it!!
