Free Music Review: not bad... Hit: 4 StarsI'll admit, the first time i heard this album I was not incredibly impressed. a few songs stood out, but it seemed to lack the vitality an album as a whole should possess. after a few more listens to each of the songs, I learned to like it, and found myself actually enjoying the entire record. No, the lyrics aren't the best, and obviously some of the titles are a bit ridiculous (as evidenced by the title, "Viva la Cobra"), but if you look past that and listen to how well all the instruments mesh together for a pop-techno collaborative feel, its a very enjoyable album. The City is at War and Smile for hte Paparazzi are songs that the DJ SHOULD be playing at school dances. Perhaps its just my nify $40 headphones, but i certainly endorse this album, and recommend you dish out the $10 or so to buy this album.
Free Music Review: Dropped the ball Hit: 2 StarsI found Cobra Starship when they came up on my Pandora Radio station a couple years ago. They were fun and catchy. So after I started singing along with at least three of their songs, I picked up the album. I like it, and I still pop it in once in a while. It was far from a profound music experience - just light fun.
Then this album came out, and I hesitated after hearing the previews, but I bought it anyways. Unfortunately, it feels like one of those albums where they took all the songs they cut from the first album and threw it onto the second just to make a quick buck. For a sophomore album, it sure sounds like an amateur effort. Very disappointing. I'm surprised the producer even let this through. The attempt at retro-funk comes off sounding like your college dorm mate's MIDI music compilation he made on his laptop. And while I wasn't expecting mind blowing lyrics, they are just laughable.
Avoid this one. It has nothing to bring to the table.
Free Music Review: Nice! Hit: 5 StarsDefinitely funky, this album is something to enjoy. Some of the lyrics are weird (in a pointless kind of way) but I don't care because I love the sound of each song. I highly recommend this cd.
