Free Music Notes for Heaven Or Las Vegas AlbumFree Music Review: Late Bloomer Hit: 5 StarsI dont think I had ever heard the music of the Cocteaus before this year, but Ive been aware of them since I was in high school in the 80s. I didnt think too highly of the clique that listened to them. I listened to Metallica, Sex Pistols, Circle Jerks...Stuff like that. I thought it was like the faggy stuff like the Cure that the goths listened to. I was 'too cool'. LOL Only now I know how stupid I was then. I love the Cure. Disintergration is a favorite, as is Seventeen Seconds. I went so far as to make my own personal Greatest Hits casette. Anyway, I was poking around on the internet, and Ityped in Cocteau Twins, and I listend to some samples. I went out and bought HOLV, as it was the one I seemed to remember was big in my sophomore year at college. It blew me completely away. It is a 14 year old album, and it is still fresh and ahead of its time. The only song Im not thrilled with is Iceblink Luck. Its good, but not as good as Pitch The Baby, Road River and Rail, Cherry Colored Funk or Fotzepolitik. Pitch The Baby is my favorite song. I really love it. Trying to figure out what Liz is singing proved to be amusing too, when I would look up what she was singing on the lyrics postings. They dont make a lot of sense, but at he same time they kind of do make sense in a surreal sort of way. Im sure if I listened to this while on acid or X, i would have a revelation. LOL But I dont do that anymore, so...I also have Victorialand, which is also brilliant in its beauty and minimalism. Blue Bell Knoll I havent listened to a lot of, and thus it hasnt grown on me. The same with Milk and Kisses. Treasure on the other hand is another briliant album, and it will be among my next purchases along with Thievery Corporation's Richest Man In Babylon. Im also a fan of the 2 Many DJs mashup discs. I also own "Greatest Bootlegs...", but am trying to find the next one "Boom Selector", but am not having any luck. Anyway, to conclude this, I was a dumbass in high school who listened to good music, but put blinders on with regard to other music. At the age of 33, I am fairly Goth. LOL I dont dress Goth, but my soul is Goth and I dont need to wear my soul on my sleeve. Im also down with the Verve, Spiritualized, Mazzy Star, Massive Attack, Death in Vegas, Zero 7 and lots more. Darker music appeals to me moreso than mainstream music. I still love pre 1990 Metallica, but I also love the Cocteau Twins. Perhaps I just wasnt ready for music like that when I was 16. I needed to mature, and that maturation gave me greater depth as a person, and appreciation for a wider swath of musical genres. I highly reccommend this album, in addition to Victorialand and Treasure. Other artists: Massive Attacks Mezzanine, Verves Storm In Heaven, Elasticas debut and Tori Amos' Boys For Pele. Thanks for the time, enjoy the music, and never be afraid to make an impulse buy. Ive found it usually works....
