Free Music Review: Man Your Own Jackhammer!
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me preface by saying that I've been a huge fan of Coheed and Cambria since their days of playing at Olives in Nyack, NY and immediately post-Shabutie, so my review is biased because they are my favorite band. People have compared Claudio Sanchez's vocals to that of Geddy Lee from Rush, which I can understand...and sometimes hear (I like to think that it makes him distinctive from the other artists out today), however, the music is more along the lines of a slightly subdued Iron Maiden in my opinion....not to mention that they have written a storyline to accompany the albums in the form of a graphic novel. Their talent is something undeniable, even my boyfriend, who doesn't really like them, can't say that these guys can't play.

But anyway, thank you for letting me get that off my chest! This album is the sophomore followup to "The Second Stage Turbine Blade", which is quite different. SSTB is much more raw and young sounding, with alot more screaming sequences. For Equal Vision records, it fit right into the mold. IKSOSE3 has many more melodic and prog-rock tones. Some songs are quite long, ranging from 6-8 minutes apiece, so be prepared to be engulfed in the music. The first song (2nd track) is the title track of the album, and you can get pumped up listening to the screaming line of "Man your own Jackhammer!" The intricate drum beats and guitar riffs are not to be ignored, Josh Eppard plays some incredible syncopation here.

The rest of the album flows nicely with another great one called "The Crowing", which is quite brooding and powerful....and then there are The Camper Velorium songs (3 of them), which goes from an 80's sounding "Faint of Hearts", to the anti-ballad "Backend of Forever", to the almost-metal "Al the Killer" which sounds like a duet with Satan and is ferocious.

There are two of the radio friendly singles on this album: "A Favor House Atlantic", and "Blood Red Summer", which I think are the poppier songs on the album.

The album ends with "The Light and the Glass", which is like an eerie lullaby that allows all hell to break loose at the end.

Of course the album is filled with a lot of "whoaaa-ohsss" which is signature of the band at this point, but the sing-along quality is quite high and I think it's a powerful album with catchy melodies and intricate music. I really think this album is one of their best, it's a great follow-up to their first album.

Free Music Review: Coheed and Cambria are great.

I think everybody has heard the cathcy pop-punk single A Favor House Atlantic by Co&Ca and it's pretty good. That's how I foudn out about this band. So in the beggining I was expecting a pop/punk thing ( i hate pop/punk but these guys seemed unique ). Anyway, I put it in the car and i listen to it. I'm like, what the hell is this? It sounded like a girl. I know tons of people have said that and they should try and listen past his high pitched voice. I've grown acustomed to it and I think it's just fine. Anyway, when I get home I put it into my CD case and don't listen to it for a week or so since I was bummed that I bought cd that sucked.

So when I was going to bed a week later I put it on. I was like, hmm they're alright. Then BAM, before you know it I was addictted. It didn't leave my stereo for a month. I think I could melt it I've listend to it so much. You just have to keep listening to it. You'll discover how talented these guys really are. Travis' amazing riffs that alter every time and Claudio's amazing voice(just like Geddy Lee's and that one guy that said that they are just a remake of RUsh, you're way off. ). Also the drum lines are everchanging. You can't really hear the bass :/ soo...IT DOESN'T MATTER! The lengthy songs also put off some people but I think it's just amazing. I got my friend hooked onto it jsut like me, it only took him a week though. By far, if I hadn't have discovered this band, I would be missing something. I also play guitar so I appreciate Travis' great riffs so I can spend the time jsut playing Co&Ca.

I think the best songs on this albulm would be THe Light & the Glass since it's just so beautifully written and then you get into a sweet rockin' song at teh end. Also In Keeping Secrets of the Silent Earth: 3 (the song) is also awesome. I love the intro and near the end, the part before it repeats the intro, I love that part even though it's 5 seconds. This albulm is worth 30 bucks, in my mind, and if this review didn't help you...well just buy the cd.

I bought their first cd after this and I didn't like it as much as this but I only got it yesterday so I bet It'll grow on me. The Hearshot Kid Disaster has a sweet Intro that you should hear.

Free Music Review: So Many Levels...
Hit: 5 Stars

Its very rare when something can come along and change my entire view of life. I've been a hardcore metal-head for the past three years of my life. My brother got into these guys and tried to get me into it. It took me a while, but I finally decided "scr-w it", and I bought the album the night before I left for college. It's a forty minute drive from my home to campus every day there and back, and I started listening nonstop that morning. My jaw dropped! I have never felt so intimite with an album. I've never felt this way about music before. It changed everything, and I'll tell you why...

Even though there is a specific story that comes along with it, the lyrics are so brilliantly written that one can find any emotional relevance within the album. If you've ever been done wrong by someone, your emotions lie in there (sever the limbs off his torso in sleep...pull the trigger and the nightmare stops...what did i do to deserve this?). If you've ever been in love or lost(the one that you had loved in dreams is here among the others...take me instead, id rather not see her off alone)and pure hatred (...where and when would i kill her...I wish i would never hurt again...when i kill her, i'll have her..). Simple lyrics, but the music pushes them beyond claudios story and makes them something everyone can relate to, especially an 18-year-old, coming-into-life-and-finding-his-own young adult. I haven't been belting out the lyrics passionatley in my car like this since the end of "everything evil" (g0d@mit we'll make it if you belive)

To conclude, this may be the best album ever released ever in the history of music, I would defend that to the death. It's like making love when I listen to this music: very intimite and passionate. I've waste so much money on batteries because any time I start listening, I can't stop until the last "pray for us all" (the hidden tracks don't count for me...too much work to find them). It touches a part of me that no metal song could ever dream of and DEFINITLEY has a place in the soundtrack of my life.

-Pray for us all...I'll be burning star IV

Free Music Review: Highly emotional and dazzling!
Hit: 5 Stars

1. The Ring In Return

A pretty impressive opener, very cool dialogue. It takes a pretty large selection of the story and gives you an obvious tip to the storyline. I love the string section on this one, it's almost cuts right into your ears.

2. In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

One of the best songs on the album, pretty stunning vocals from Claudio and the choir singing at the end. It's around 8 minutes and epic in it's entirety, this one also cueing the fans of the carnivorous battle approaching.

3. Cuts Marked In The March Of Men

Singeing rhythm and simple song, it's pretty easygoing, just kind of a relaxing moment.

4. Three Evils (Embodied In Love And Shadow)

Another favorite of mine, hard song, and some cool vocals.

5. The Crowing

Amounts to one of the stranger songs off the album, metal influenced. It breaks out with a bloodcurdling scream!

6. Blood Red Summer

Great "sing-along" song, nicely picked single.

7. The Camper Velourium I: Faint Of Hearts

I don't like this song very much, it's very repetitive and dimmed down, lyrics are kind of lame too.

8. The Camper Velourium II: Backend Of Forever

Very smeary time measures, another hint to the fans.

9. The Camper Velourium III: Al The Killer

This song should be considered a prelude to "A Favor House Atlantic", thematically at least. It's a great song and I just wish the whole album could have a sound near this one.

10. A Favor House Atlantic

Pretty much the sequel to the song above (storyline atleast), was picked out as a single, great song.

11. The Light & The Glass

Extremely emotional choir and string ensemble, this song is brilliant, 9 minutes, conservative energy, and hard-hitting.

[HIDDEN TRACK} 21:13

Another 9 minute song, you'll have to buy the album to get an opinion off this one.

Free Music Review: God-send

When I first heard Coheed's first C.D. I was amazed, but I was also slightly disapointed because I just KNEW, that they could never top it. I am oh so happy to inform you all that I was very, very wrong. The dualing guitar work of Travis Stever and Claudio Sanchez is a lot like old bands like Yes. Being a guitarist myself, I can garuntee that people thirty years from now will look back at lead player Travis Stever like we look back at Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eddy Van Halen, and Randy Rhodes. He has something new that we havent heard before. He has virtuostic chops but he services the song and still plays incredible leads. Claudio Sanchez' vocal range puts such metal gods as Ronnie James Dio and Rob Halford to shame, while still being very pleasant to listen to. All of those great things aside, the biggest point of this C.D. and Coheed in general, is the lyrics and the story. People remember Pink Floyd for The Wall, a concept album of epic perportions, well all of Coheeds music tells and incredible story, a concept band if you will. They have laid the frame work for all Progressive Rock bands to follow. I am almost certain they will turn out to be the most copied band in history. In these reviews you are supposed to list your favorite songs, well I would like the reader to look at the track listing and fill the names in themselves. Every single song is a master-piece. From the epic chants in the title track In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, to the rising and beautiful chorus of The Crowing, Coheed delivers what their loyal fans, or anyone else for that matter, love to hear. The songs A Favor House Atlantic and Blood Red Summer have the commercial appeal that radio listeners love, but they do not betray any of their previously established alternative metal greatness. If you have been held captive in a basement and have not eaten in weeks, and your captur is nice and lets you go with $15 to go eat, buy the C.D. It is so much better than eating.
