Free Music Notes for The Second Stage Turbine BladeFree Music Review: This band is simply incredible... Hit: 5 Stars
Let me just start this review by commenting on people's stupid remarks on the style of Coheed. Okay, I will admit that they do sound a lot like Rush, but they aren't punk or emo. C&C has their own style that can't really be defined. After hearing songs like Delirium Trigger and Everything Evil...I WAS PUMPED to buy this CD. I LOVE IT! Here is why.
Second Stage Turbine Blade - 3/5
This song doesn't really count as a song, but I gave it a 3 cuz the sound of it is REALLY CREEPY! I mean creepy man, seriously.
Time Consumer - 5/5
Probably one of my top three favorites on the album. The drum and guitar bit in the beggining is worth listening to the song alone, but the chorus is energetic and fun.
Devil in Jersey City - 5/5
I don't know what it is I love about this song. The energy is amazing to start with. The song could get you jumping or thrashing your head, but the bridge and chorus of this track are so cool and powerful.
Delirium Trigger - 5/5
I think this is my favorite. The cool opening prepares you for around five minutes of pure awesomeness. The song is hard, medium paced, and powerful. The break like part in the middle is overwhelming. YOU MUST HEAR THIS SONG! My mom hated Coheed at first, and this song made her like them.
Everything Evil - 4/5
The first time I heard this song I wasn't too impressed, but quickly it grew on me. The lyrics are definately the most impressive part of this song, but it doesn't offer much diversity in the music area.
33 - 4/5
Not the best, but a cool song. The chorus is so cool, when Claudio's voice get's REALLY high pitched on only certain parts to really add feeling. Great song, mainly the chorus.
Hearshot Kid Disaster - 4/5
I love the chorus of this song. Really punk oriented and fast paced. Just a really good song, but lacking around the verses. Feels too long for a song so good.
Junesong Provision - 4/5
I think this might be the strangest song in the album, and the lyrics will make NO SINCE unless you know the C&C storyline, Especially the newo ikkin and appollo thing. Regardless, download the Acoustic version so you can hear Ash from Evil Dead introduce his boomstick to some primitive a*holes.
Neverender - 4/5
I love the opening music of this song and everything, and the "Point your gun in another direction" part. The chorus is alright, especially the "I'll be home" part in the background. The song is good, but maybe a bit too sappy.
God Send Conspirator - 3/5
This song is one I haven't really given much of a chance. It'll prolly grow on me. Great song, and if you wait several minutes once the song is over you get to hear the I,Robot hidden track (NO RELATION TO WILL SMITH FILM!) The I,Robot song is alright, REALLY STRANGE!
Although most of the songs got a lower rating than 5, I gave the album itself a 5 for a lot of reasons. First being that the song I did give 5 ratings to, like Time Consumer and Delirium Trigger are actually WORTH buying the album for. Another reason is that when you listen to the whole thing through, it fits together in the flawless sci-fi story of C&C like a puzzle peice, and it's really just beautiful. When the entire CD is done you'll be able to take off your headphones and realized that you didn't just listen to music, you listened to art!
BUY IT!
Free Music Review: With Time And Patience It Shall Prevail Hit: 5 Stars
After listening to your old line-up of albums and occasionally scanning places for the new releases of whatever musical preference you esteem, a man needs to escape from his norm, and venture into new waters. I was such a person. With bravery and mild uncertainty, I decided to trail the noise Coheed & Cambria had ejected. Why were they so exceptionally good? I grabbed their following, "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 Disc 1, and I honestly thought this band wasn't for me. I was disoriented by the almost feminine voice of Claudio. I was actually kind of disturbed. My roommate shot a peculiar look at me, with it came his facial expression which asked, "huh?" Or was it "eh?" I can't remember. The irony of all this was that I couldn't turn it off. No matter how much I thought this band was below my standards, I left it alone and it played on. It was like Thailand's Banana Show, you think it's disgusting, but you just couldn't help but keep your eye on her. Patience and time unravels how remarkable Coheed & Cambria is. After a month of "Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 Disc 1," I readily picked up their debut, "The Second Turbine Blade." There hasn't been a single day when I willingly allowed the CD to flee from the bowels of my CD player. What you have here is an inimitable blend of Indie and Punk. The overall sound and atmosphere to the band is a smooth, sometimes pessimistic joyride. From his high-pitched array of vocals to his more raspy tones, Claudio drives out expression after expression into a myriad of different and moving styles. Co & Ca fuse creativity in a number tracks, such as "Junesong Provision," where Claudio sings unusually low and alien-like. He then goes on in attacks of brusque shouts. Their lyrics are catchy and never uninspiring. Claudio's choice of words and the execution of them are originally profound. The guitar work relentlessly break down to then arise, then break down some more and strengthen the overall eminence behind the music. Co & Ca have their moments of replicating their share of poppy sounds, however don't be dissuaded, for the lyrics themselves suggest something totally different. And that is where the bias opinion of claiming the band is another pop punk band accentuates. Do your best to ignore them. From my understanding, many people shun Co & Ca for no particular or solid reason, rather than to cry that they are too slow or pop-oriented for their taste. I will admit that I was like that. My initial fight-or-flight response mirrored theirs. It still nags me that I was ready to run off, yet I kept my patience alive. Thereafter, Coheed & Cambria prevailed within me. With songs like "Devil In Jersey City", a distinctively awesome song, and the hidden, final track after "God Send Conspirator," which is a blend of emo and crazy, unworldly tunes, I am happy to be exposed to such a band. In the end it's up to you whether you give them an opening to your music sensibilities or not. Coheed & Cambria are here proving that their music ousts many out there by the dozens. Did I mention my roommate no longer shoots that peculiar look at me? Well he doesn't anymore. Like me, he has been won over.
Free Music Review: A Ray of Hope in the Contemporary Music Scene Hit: 5 Stars
With all the typical, identical emo crap spewing out in the underground/indie scene, I was beginning to lose hope. That was until about 3 1/2-4 years ago when I heard a little band called Shabutie, the precursor to Coheed. This band was amazing: intricate guitar work by Claudio, sick bass lines by Mike, amazingly catchy rhythm by Josh, and although the original drummer sounded better with Shabutie's style of music(which is more like ATDI in the sense that it's more hardcore/psychedellic), he seemed to lose steam when the conversion to Coheed and Cambria happened. Travis compliments Coheed's style and storyline with his amazing drumming ability. Coheed and Cambria as well as The Mars Volta are the only two bands who can be even compete with the originality that ATDI brought to the music scene. This album is their first release on a semi-major record label(Equal Vision). It is complete perfection. The storyline is amazing. This particular album is second in the 4 album series which is to be complimented by Claudio's graphical novel. The idea is to lay down put the CD's in order(once all released) and read the comic book kind of like a read along. Now, how original is that? SSTB catches you with the opening riffs of Time Consumer and just pushes you through an epic journey that will have you singing the words(just not as amazingly as Claudio) by your third or fourth time through. All songs are simply amazing. My personal favorite would have to be "I,Robot"(nothing to do with the movie), the "secret song" after "Godsend Conspirator". There really isn't a "bad song" on this album. Just some that seem a little out of place with the instrumental parts. BUT! When you hear those songs take into total consideration that: Coheed is not a particular style of music. They are a "Concept Band". All of their songs are about Claudio's story, no exceptions, save a few covers: "Sister Christian" & "The Trooper" are a a few of their notable covers. If you really dig this album, I recommend going out and purchasing the vinyl. The flipside has "Elf Tower, New Mexico". It is WELL worth picking up. If you really find that you dig the originality of Coheed and Cambria and are willing to accept that they ARE NOT an emo band, then I HIGHLY recommend you check out their Shabutie recordings: the Penelope EP, the Coheed and Cambria EP, and the Delirium Trigger EP. And for the last time Coheed isn't emo. Read the lyrics.
Free Music Review: PLEASE more bands like this! Hit: 5 Stars
Coheed and Cambria is an unbelieveable band. Their diverse style of emo/hardcore rock amazes me everytime I listen to them. People who critisize them have not given them a chance, and are basing their taste off of first impressions. Some people(many of my own freinds) dont like Coheed and Cambria, well thats probably because you do not listen to their songs. Claudio (lead singer) has an amazing high pitched voice that also can be quite low. His unusual, but yet creative lyrics blows my mind ever time. Some people compare them to New Found Glory? What are you smoking? "Librarian find me a pole, the one that kicks your head in" I would like to see something like that in one of New Found Glory's songs. People who think they are pop, really do not know what they are talking about. I have seen them 3 times. Once was in a tiny art gallery that holds no more than seventy five people. This is where the local bands play in Louisville and they charged six dollars to get in. They played the best show I have ever seen asthey stood on their cramped 3 foot, 6 in high stage with hardley and room for a peadal for theit amps. Then i saw then do a very rare acoustic show with rocking horse winner where they charged 2 dollars to get in. Come on people they made about 100 dollars spilt betwwen two bands. Then they pilled in their white VAN and went on to they next town. People who compare them to New Found Glory are just stupid. New found glory sells out 20,000 seats stadiums then pile on to their 1,000,000 bus and go play on TRL. Come on, everyone needs the Coheed and Cambria album. It will grow on you and it will become your favorite CD. I promise. Poeple dont like they unusal lyrics, or they constant changing of melody in the middle of a verse. Music needs more of that. there are all amazing muscians, and the reason why they change to such difficult meoldies during songs is because they can. Bands like Good Charlotte and Sum 41 could not play a Coheed and Cambria song to save their life. This will become your favorite Cd and please go see them live. They are nuts when they are on a real stage and you will constatly be thinking about the show for the next year. BUY THIS ALBUM YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.
Free Music Review: Lock the Children in the Floor Hit: 5 Stars
GOOD GOD...While IKSSE3 is, as I believe, the greatest rock album ever released, this outdoes it in certain ways. First, the story of this album has been partially released, so you're not merely wandering through the music trying to listen for keys to the story. Where do I begin? It's like the soundtrack to a movie. Listen to the end of Godsend Conspirator, and when the music fades out, there is a little repeat of the monstar theme on that wacky, out-of-tune piano. Claudio even gave you credit music! Talk about theatrics.
Time Consumer is my favorite song by them, and I believe it to be the most beautiful song ever written. Its a bittersweet lullaby that describes a love that goes beyond anything: the love of a father and his children as he is forced to kill them to save the universe. The chiming clocks in the background...oh, and that last chorus...the way it kicks in..."me and my star, matthew goodnight"...oh, god, its SO powerful. Everything evil has that classic scream it out loud ending "CLAUDIO, DEAR CLAUDIO, I WISH GODD@AMMIT WE'LL MAKE IT IF YOU BELIEVE". Beautiful.
Neverender, Godsend, 33, they just compile to form a wonderful experience that kicks off our first encounter with the keywork universe. They lack cohesion, which is why IKSSE3 is the best, but this has held its own. Neverender comforted me as I moved out on my own. In some abstract way in my mind, "youll make it if you believe" gave me the courage to ask out my dreamgirl.
In short, as far as thier albums go, this is 2nd out of the top 3. I was disappointed with some songs on GAIBS4, because for the first time, I was skipping certain songs that I just didn't like, like Willing Well I(ick), and I was upset with that albums ending (it was basically a song made out of repeating the chorus of the Crowing over six minutes).
This band revolutionized my view of music, and now, no other album from any other band holds a candle to this. I expect so much now, because I don't just listen to songs, the whole album has to work with something, and no other band has accomplished this like Co&Ca. A worthy build up to IKSSE3.
