Free Music Notes for Cold MountainFree Music Review: I played on a loop the first three days I had it! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD after I'd watched the movie the first three times. The music is wonderful. I bought it specifically for the song they sing in the church scene - "I Don't Care to Stay Here Long" and I want it played at my own funeral way out there in "someday". You can't hear it without smiling and the words are much easier to understand on the CD than in the movie. But just in case, here's the first foot-stompin' verse:
Fare -- well, vain world! I'm going home.
My Savior smiles and bids me come and
I don't care to stay here long. Bright
Angels beckon me away to sing God's praise in endless day and
I don't care to stay here long.
Right up Yonder! Christians, away up Yon-der.
Oh, yes my Lord, for I don't care to stay here long!
Free Music Review: Throughly enjoyable music Hit: 5 Stars
The music on this CD will be immensly enjoyed, if you like Blue Grass, Southern/Celtic songs, if you liked the movie, or if you're a Civil War buff.Being a Civil War 'fanatic', I have played this CD, time after time, and continue to do so. One of the Great things about this CD, is the entire song is played, whereas during the movie, some of the songs only had cuts played. There are nineteen (19) songs on this CD, so you're defintely getting your money's worth. (and there is not a one that I don't like). I highly recommend this for every lover of Blue Grass Music or Civil war people. I also recommend the tapes/CD's produced by "Unreconstructed" (they sing celtic style Civil War music, and do it as well as this CD (Cold Mountain)
Free Music Review: A HAUNTING AND MOVING COLECTION OF SONGS! Hit: 5 Stars
The best thing about the movie "Cold Mountain" is the music. This soundtrack captures the best from the movie. Jack White (of the hard rock band White Stripes) truly outdoes himself on the five songs he has on this collection, and Alison Krauss truly shines on the ballads "The Scarlet Tide" and "You Will Be My Ain True Love." Also haunting are the choral songs "I'm Going Home," and the eerie "Idumea," which plays during the battle of the Crater. The selections from Gabriel Yared's original score are absolutely beautiful. T Bone burnett truly outdoes his work on "O Brother, Where art Thou?," with this amazing collection of songs! Grade: A+
Free Music Review: WONDERUL MUSIC! Hit: 5 Stars
This note actually is to Larry who needed a translation on "The Scarlet Tide" song: Hopefully you understand that the scarlet tide means death/blood - what separates a widow from a bride? Those whose rose above death "the bride" leaving widows from the death "scarlet tide". I have read all these reviews, most say that this album is too "hollywood" maybe so, but when really good music comes out of a soundtrack (which seldom does anymore)why complain! Saw the movie, loved it, buying the album, love the music ALL the music! Everyone did a superb job, so stop and really listen and enjoy. Don't worry about "hollywood" - just slow down and listen - that is what it's for.
Free Music Review: Another T Bone Classic Hit: 5 Stars
Though not as good as the O Brother soundtrack, this CD is another classic. Alison Krauss will give you goose bumps on Scarlett Tide and Jack White will impress you with his version of Americana. Props to the Sacred Harp singers on two amazingly moving and driving songs. I had never heard of Sacred Harp singing but it has to be heard to understand the greatness. The Reeltime Travelers were a new one for me, and I will certainly be looking for more of their music in the future. I was lucky enough to catch this tour (the great high mountain tour) and all musicians were extremely talented, Alison Krauss especially. I highly recommend this great disc.
