Free Music Review: A Rush of Blood to My Head
Hit: 5 Stars

After winning one Grammy award (Best Alternative Music Album), two Brit awards (Best Group and Best Album), two VH1 awards (Best Kept Secret and "Big in Japan") and selling 1.2 million copies of their debut album Parachutes, Coldplay would have to do something miraculous to overcome the sophomore slump. With their newest release A Rush of Blood to the Head, they show the world that they aren't going down without a fight. When the album opens, with the heavy and resounding drums and guitars of "Politik", you notice the change that has occurred between albums. Coldplay abandons much of the love and loss theme that was prevalent in their early work and its place is a slightly more joyful and upbeat sound. The radio single "In My Place" follows this with equal strength, as does the entire album. Not one ounce of energy is lost as the album takes you on its spiraling journey through the mind of a musical genius. In a pop-culture music scene that is dominated by artists like Nelly, Eminem, and Linkin Park, a rock record emerges that gives hope to those of us who long for more. The standout track is definitely "Scientist", where Chris sings in earnest, "Nobody said it was easy, No one ever said it would be this hard." The raw emotion that he puts into his music gives Coldplay that unique edge over most musicians in the genre. My only complaint about this album is the tendency of some songs to sound similar. However, with the caliber of songs that are on this record, monotony can sometimes be welcome and even intensify the musical power. Finally the CD closes with "Amsterdam", where you are confuident that Chris Martin's vocals and energy have retained their strength and that Coldplay has once again delivered a near-masterpiece.

Free Music Review: Much Better Than X&Y!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I remember first getting this cd, and being floored by what I heard. This was nothing like their first release, Parachutes, like I'd been expecting. Coldplay had proven to be a more mature, and developed band with a very unique and original sound. Each song had a very refreshing feel to it, and didn't sound like any of the other tracks (which is something I can't say about X&Y).

This album doesn't get any better than the first track, Politik. What an incredible song. There's definitely a message here in this song, and it's secondary. The song has a driving piano line, and drum beat. All topped off by one of Chris Martin's greatest vocals.

Possibly the best single released on this album is Clocks. This song has been duplicated on their next album with Speed of Sound. But this song, Clocks, was so unlike anything I'd heard before. There was no song I could think of to compare it to. This song would be played over and over again as I'd drive to and from work. Great tune.

My personal favourite though, is Amsterdam. A very personal, and moving song. It's first 4 minutes are very sincere, and peaceful, and sad.. and the last minute is huge with it's grand finish. There's no better Coldplay song than this one. I'd have paid $15 just to get this song on cd.

Coldplay's first two albums are great because of their originality. X&Y finds them moving into U2's current niche, which is finding a sound that their comfortable with, and not deviating from it. Which is all good, except for that's completely different than what I expected from them.

Buy A Rush of Blood to the Head, than Parachutes, and then X&Y.. the first two discs are far superior to their 3rd.

Free Music Review: Easily Best Album Of 2002, and to put it simply AMAZING!
Hit: 5 Stars

At first I wasn't a fan of Coldplay. I heard the single "Yellow" on the radio too mucha dn i thought this was a new band that was overrated. "Trouble" was released and I liked it a bit more than "Yellow" but that was it. I never got into them or heard any other songs. Then I heard "In My Place" and "Clocks" and was blown away. I bought this on a whim. I liked both of those two songs, and went for the album. And boy was I wrong about this band (I then bought Parachutes). \

First and foremost, Coldplay is one of the best Bands I have ever heard. I am a massive music fan with over 250 Cd's ranging from Pop to independent stuff no one likes but me. And I have to tell you try Coldplay! PLEASE! If you like absolutely moving music with a ton of character, undeniably tremendous lyrics, and musicianship at its best...Coldplay is it.

Politik starts the album off on the right foot. A heavy song with an mind entreanching ending. In My Place...amazing...
Other Standouts include Clocks, Green Eyes, A Rush Of Blood to The Head, God Put A Smile Uopn Your Face, Warning Sign. A Whisper, and Daylight are great songs, but not as good as the others.

Now Onto "The Scientist" and "Amsterdam" I'm probably can say this but if your reading this Download both of them NOW! You dont have to buy the CD, just download these songs... Two of the most well-written emotianlly indulging songs I've ever heard. There mellow and incredible buildups, especially "Amsterdam." And by the way their really sad too. The lyrics are jaw dropping, and the singing well, Chris Martin is all I have to say.

So please check out this band. Please! You won't be sorry. By the way if they don't win a grammy for this, no one deserves too...

Free Music Review: Cornerstone of music for the mind, soul & heart
Hit: 5 Stars

How I love this band. I admit that I passionately love nearly all music from the UK...from the Beatles to Oasis to Travis to Radiohead to Keane. However, none has touched me (or warmed up my CD player) the way Coldplay has.

"In My Place" is reflective. It's popularity is not without understanding. It's dramatic, heartfelt, pleading...particularly when he sings "please, please come back and sing to me". It's amazing how a little song can well your eyes with tears and help you find your own place in the world. The background drum beat is fabulous and adds a rhythm to the song that might otherwise have left it feeling somewhat empty. It's fabulously syrupy and original and beautiful.

"Clocks" is a great song, as well. Again, you have that soft sound that lets you feel its passion without being sappy. This and all the songs have the same amazing appeal that Parachutes offered, but without sounding repetitive or "been there, done that".

"The Scientist", now holds a special significance for me. It was playing as I walked into the operating room to have a c-section to give birth to my son, Henry. Now, that may be a crazy reason to love a song, but to be truthful, I had always loved Coldplay, anyway. To know that my MD and his staff did, too, was really cool. And it made the whole frightening birth experience memorable. The music was comforting - in fact, Coldplay CDs played the entire 30 minutes I was in the OR.

It's a play-thru CD...you might originally buy it for one song only or for the sake of owning another Coldplay CD, but, trust me, you'll end up loving everything on it. Buy it for you and then buy another copy for the most important person in your life!

Free Music Review: "Rush" to this
Hit: 5 Stars

The second Coldplay album, "A Rush of Blood To The Head," is a masterful effort that strikes a deep chord if you listen to it. With Chris Martin's fantastic voice and the memorable music, "Rush" is evidence enough that Coldplay's debut album was not a fluke.

The music ranges from haunting, such as the memorable "Politik" ("Give me strength, reserve control/Give me heart and give me soul") to the poppier and simpler like "In My Place." Following up are the pleadingly sweet "Scientist," beautiful "Clocks," the droning and somewhat less interesting "Daylight," the wonderfully fatigued-and-lonely-sounding "Warning Sign," the unassumingly disturbing title track, and the quiet, cold, stately "Amsterdam."

Much of "Rush" stops just short of being melancholy, with its low-key guitarwork mingled with piano, drums and other instruments. The piano in particular gives what might have been ordinary music a very timeless, classical feel. The overall musical result is smooth and deceptively simple. The lyrics often evoke a sort of soft, optimistic sadness ("God gave me style and gave me grace/ And put a smile upon my face"), never smacking you in the face with any of the underlying sentiments (like politics) but just letting those beliefs seep into your mind. Martin's voice has a fragility and sweetness that few rock/pop singers have, and there seems to be genuine emotion behind his singing.

"A Rush of Blood To The Head" is a worthy follow-up to "Parachutes," and a haunting musical presence. Definitely worth getting for those who like genuine song and music.
