Free Music Notes for A Rush of Blood to the Head

Free Music Review: wonderful
Hit: 5 Stars

the first coldplay album is one of my favorite albums ever. it's on my top 10 list (number 7). so the 2nd album was a little disappointing, although every song is wonderful and i'm not disappointed at all. it's just that the first album totally uncontrollably TAKES me. so i was tempted to give this album a 4 out of 5, but it just wouldn't be fair, because the album is truly amazing. so i guess i'd have to give it a 4.7 or so out of 5. onto the songs..

1. Politik - this is actually my worst coldplay song. of course, it's a wonderful song.

2. In My Place - this guy knows how to make something so simple sound so amazing

3. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - neato little tune

4. The Scientist - i can't tell if these songs are written by a 7 year old or a complete genius, or perhaps a complete genius who is in touch with his inner child. the songs are so simple, but so genius.

5. Clocks - what a lovely song. deservingly all over the radio. this song is where the album starts to wake up, but wait and it gets even better

6. Daylight - wow. this song has feeling. it's like he becomes the daylight

ok, songs 7 thru 10 are my favorite on the album. it was actually 7 and 8 for a while, but then i heard 10 and decided that it might be the best song on the album. and i didn't really know how great 9 was until pretty recently.

7. Green Eyes - for a while this was my favorite song on the album. "green eyes, you were the one who i wanted to it's just a damn lovable song.

8. Warning Sign - this song, though. wow. this song goes places. when he says "but the truth is, that i miss you!!". wow!! i believe him. and i relate. and it's awesome.

9. A Whisper - this song has a great flow through it that just takes me. it's pretty much the only fast-ish song on the album

10. A Rush Of Blood To The Head - recently i was considering that this might be my favorite song on the album (for the longest time it was a time between "green eyes" and "warning sign"). i guess i can make it a 3-way tie (or 4-way tie, because i love "a whisper" so much too). it's a mellow song, but it's got energy and power. the only part of the album that almost touches what the entire first album does to me, when this song goes into, "and honey, all the movements your starting to make..". wow.

11. Amsterdam - this is a great song, too. one of my favorites when i was first listening to the album. it builds up, and it's great.

anyway, this album has beautiful moments of its own, despite its differences from the masterpiece that the first album is.

Free Music Review: A Beautifully Constructed Album
Hit: 5 Stars

Coldplay's first album Parachutes sparked raving reviews and good feedback from audiences around the world (including this particular one right here!)
Their second outing is no different and in fact it takes Coldplay's stardom to another level.

"A Rush Of Blood..." is as the title states a rush of some really cool drifting soulful mellow and effective tunes that will flow straight to the head.

In My Place by itself sends shivers and a sweet sense of joy every time you'll hear it and sing along to those beautiful verses and chorus.

Politik is a straight out low key rocker with that ever so delicate sound of Coldplay.

If you thought that was not enough, then comes the outstanding Clocks, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, The Scientist and Warning Sign that will mesmerize you just as much as Sparks, Spies and Yellow did on Parachutes.

What seems exciting to me about A Rush Of Blood To The Head is that even though it is a follow up to a successful debut album, it sounds as though it is the debut album. The band have not relyed on any new sounds or any heavier or more expensive equipment while recording this album (it's obvious from comparisons between this one and the first). Coldplay can indeed record each album with the same melodies that they recorded before and it will still sound amazing. Not that the songs on A Rush... sound like the ones on Parachutes but it sounds as if they were all written and performed during the same time when Coldplay were possibly unknowns and trying to make a break. Well, a break they did make and this album is a delight to the ears.

After years of prolific British talent rising, most notably Oasis, Radiohead, Travis and The Verve, Coldplay are the new breed, the new generation of British Rock talent that will score big in the charts around the world. The album's lengthy stay in the top ten on the Billboard charts could be an indication of just that, that they are here to stay, at least for now and hopefully for a longer time. I wish them luck and more beautiful albums with those sweet and not too flashy songs. To put it in a nutshell, A Rush is not your Morning Glory but it ain't your Be Here Now, it's not Urban Hymns and it's not The Man Who nor The Bends. It has an identity of its own just as much as Parachutes did. That ID was Coldplay, and they are just as celebrated as any of those bands.

And as the opening song Politik says "open your eyes..." Maybe it is time to open your eyes to a new Brit rock invasion of Coldplay, maybe they intended it to be more than a lyric. A statement.

Final Rate: 10/10

A+

Free Music Review: Best CD I've Bought in a LONG time
Hit: 5 Stars

Every time I listen to this album, all I can do is sit back and say, "Whoa." Anyone who thinks that "Rush of Blood" paled into comparison to "Parachutes" simply can't appreciate the mellow-intensity that this CD brings. I love every song on it, the lyrics are amazing and the music is orgasmic, to say the least. Coldplay is not music that I would usually like, either...I am a huge fan of bands like Sum41, Incubus, System of a Down, etc., but I can still appreciate all good music, and this CD is at the top of my list right now. Here's a breakdown of my favorites:

Politik (track 1): While I don't like the beginning (it sounds like the CD is skipping) it ends up being a very smooth song, with most focus on the vocals and less on the music.

In My Place (track 2): I heard this song hundreds of times on the radio driving to school every morning, and even overplay hasn't killed it for me. We all know this tune, but I don't think it's an accurate representation of how utterly amazing Coldplay is.

God Put a Smile Upon Your Face (track 3): The guitar really does it for me, here. This song also has a very driving beat, and the chorus propels me into a state of utter euphoria. One of the best on the album.

The Scientist (track 4): Piano, piano, piano. This song ties with Amsterdam (track 11) for the best on the album, because of the beautiful piano work. It has a slow tempo and could almost be considered morose as far as theme, but it is a beautiful song that I could listen to again and again.

Clocks (track 5): Also receiving a lot of air time, I like this song considerably more than In My Place; the title makes me think of Salvador Dali and his melting clocks, and I always feel very trippy listening to this song. It's unique, and one of their best.

A Rush Of Blood to the Head (track 10): A phenomenal title track, the lyrics are what really make the song. Again, all I can say is that it's an amazingly beautiful song.

Amsterdam (track 11): Easily my favorite song on the CD. The lyrics and piano are blissful, and I always feel satisfied after hearing the song. Listening to this song always makes me feel good, and it wraps up the album nicely.

Anytime I listen to this CD, I truely experience Nirvana. I only hope Coldplay can continue to write music like this; this CD has made Coldplay one of my favorite artists. Rarely can an album make me truely appreciate being alive, but this one does. A Rush of Blood to the Head is a must own for anyone who likes music.

Free Music Review: One of the best albums of the 21st century
Hit: 5 Stars

Coldplay's "A Rush of Blood to the Head" plays like fine wine: it gets better with age. For most listeners, it's not going to overwhelm at first impression, such as U2's "The Joshua Tree," or Led Zeppelin IV. But one can recognize the brilliance through repeated listenings.

While I think the first two songs ("Politik" and "In My Place") are decent, the album really gets going with "God Put a Smile on My Face," especially where that signature Coldplay "wall of sound" kicks in with the verse "Yeah, where you work it out I'm worse than you." For the first time, the band demonstrates some upbeat pacing, to great effect.

Does anyone remember at the end of the 2004 Yankees-Red Sox playoff series (you may recall that the Yankees won the first three games and the Red Sox the next 4) where the producers clipped together a short highlight film and played "The Scientist?" It was as if Chris Martin wrote the song for that moment when he sang "nobody said it was easy, it's such a shame for us to part, nobody said it was easy, no one ever said that it would be so hard, take me back to the start." It was a perfect match of image and sound.

When I first heard "Clocks" on the radio, I though it was a new U2 song with a really cool piano riff. As many reviewers have noted, Coldplay has clearly been influenced by U2 and Radiohead, but what's wrong with that? Hasn't U2 been influenced by The Who, and Radiohead by Robert Fripp and Brian Eno? In any event, "Clocks" gave the band a great memorable hit, which never seems to grow tired.

It's interesting that a number of reviewers aren't crazy about "Daylight," because it's my favorite track on the album. I especially find the chorus mesmerizing ("Ooh and the sun will shine, yeah on this heart of mine"). "Green Eyes" is a touching love song, whereas "Warning Sign" should not be played by anyone who has just gone through a painful breakup. Both are wonderful slow songs, but are not to be outdone by the hypnotic, mantra-like "A Whisper." Although, I'm not crazy about the title track, the album ends with the poignant "Amsterdam," where Martin sings in a shaky unsure voice about something that's obviously deeply personal ("Stood on the edge, tied to a noose, you came along and cut me loose").

I love "A Rush of Blood to the Head." What's almost scary is that, in my opinion, Coldplay's next offering, "X&Y," may be even better (though perhaps not as consistent).

Free Music Review: One of the best cds of the last decade
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, I'd like to say something to all you people who are wondering if you should buy coldplay or not. Take a look at all the people giving this cd, along with X&Y, and parachutes bad reviews, and 1 stars. Take a look at what else they have reviewed. They are giving everything poor reviews because their life is so boring that they have nothing better to do. Also, the poor reviews come from someone who listens to a completely different genre of music, such as rap, pop punk or metal. If you are a huge fan of rap,or metal and decide to listen to a coldplay cd, you probably wont like it you idiot. Just look at the kid above me who gave this cd 1 star. He gave simple plan and My chemical Romance 5 stars! Dont come on amazon and review cds when you obviously have no good taste in music! Why are you even reviewing this cd if you cut yourself off to only a certain couple genres of music. Of course, most rappers today have admitted that they are fans of coldplay. Weird huh? Second of all, if you listen to their cds once, and decide you dont like it, you dont know how to listen to music. A lot of music has to grow on people, but in this day in age of impatience, people rush through music and dont give it a chance. I myself have only reviewed a couple of things on amazon. I dont give reviews on bands, or movies that I have no idea about.

This cd is great if you like contemporary rock, even alternative, but dont go by the singles on the radio. Some of the singles coldplay have released arent even the best sounding songs on the cd, although, if you like what you hear on the radio, pick up their music.

Also, if people are comparing this to pink floyd, and suggesting that they are better than pink floyd or U2, why are you even arguing with them. Of course coldplay isnt better. The band themselves have even said that they arent very good. While, I think that they are a great band, and they are very talented artist, they will never be as good as the people that came before them. Just realize that. I am a huge coldplay fan, but Pink Floyd is obviously better. Maybe in time, coldplay will be known as one of the best bands ever, but until then, just enjoy the ride. This cd is great. Every song is good. Wait, no, a whisper is actually my least favorite coldplay song ever. Other than that, every song on here is classic, and you should definitely pick this up before you buy X&Y, because this cd is far superior.
