Free Music Review: Coldplay, The Greatest Band In The World...
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me tell you a little about how I got into Coldplay. At first, I didn't know who they were, but I highly enjoyed their videoclip "The Scientist", it was awesome, and the song was great too... So I decided to give them a try by purchasing "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" CD. And this seemed to me, beyond doubt, one of the greatest albums in 2003. So I was, suddently, a fan of this band, loving their songs and their attidude for the world's problems. So perfect, music for our souls, really. So when I had the opportunity to see them live in DVD, I immediately bought this "Coldplay Live 2003" CD/DVD.
What to say about them live? The whole band is awesome, and their shows are very different, between guitars and pianos, rock and classical. And you can see and listen it all on DVD and CD. The songs are the same in both the CD and the DVD, but there are less songs in the CD. The sound in the DVD is awesome (much like the songs incluided in it), and you can choose between 5.1 and 2.0, if you don't own a Home Theater (don't worry, I've tested both and they're both very fine)... One of the greatest features in DVD (and a very funny one too), besides the concert itself, is a Tour Diary, which must be watched. Lots of backstage and live footage, so you can see who these guys really are, while they travel worldwide... But I won't tell you everything you'll find in this DVD, I'll let you have some surprises (who include the awesome animated menus and some little extras). I just say: buy it, it's totally worth your money... Listen the old songs again and discover some new ones, maybe. I, as a new fan (who will now buy Parachutes), discovered new songs I've never listened too, like the divine "See You Soon" and "Shiver"... Well, go check this piece of art by yourselves.
But, no, nothing's perfect. I miss two things in "Coldplay Live 2003". One of them is the song "Green Eyes", my favorite one from "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" CD; and I also miss the lyrics all captioned in the concert. I know the lyrics are avaliable as an extra, but I'd be much better if we could read them while we were watching the fantastic concert. But that's nothing to take the five stars away from this CD/DVD. Some complain because the songs are the same in the CD and the DVD, but I don't bother, since the DVD is only for my Home Theater, and I can take Coldplay in CD anywhere I want...
Buy it and feel Coldplay get deeper and deeper into your soul, if you let it flow.

Free Music Review: Couldn't live without That DVD
Hit: 5 Stars

When I saw that Coldplay had released this great DVD.. I just couldn't wait... 30 minutes later, I had mine!!! And I wasn't disappointed... I was in Toronto for their show in september 2002 I think.. and that day was the most wonderful day of my life... And I was sad to see the day was over... I knew that as the month's went by, I was forgetting more and more of the details of the show and the great feeling I felt listening to their unbelievable music. So I was thrilled when I saw that they extended their tour and that they were coming to Ottawa and Montreal... So I purchased FLOOR tickets for the Ottawa show and I relived that wonderful experience a second time... But I tought that the Toronto show was slightly better... I think the fact that I was much closer for the Ottawa show was not so good because the visula effects with the lights are much better when your in the back... Anyways.... Now let's talk about the DVD... the only song that is not there and should be is Spies and the only only only thing is that I wish the camera would stey still a bit more.... they are always changing and you don't have the time to focus on something... I wish the DVD producers could someday make a DVD in wich you can choose the section you are sitting in and see the whole show from there... there would be like : in front of the stage, in the back... left and right... And for those who like these moving cameras there could be that version included also... I think it would be great.

In the end
There's only Coldplay
And Oh my friends, Coldplay is the best band you'll ever know...

Buy this CD and Just let yourself float to the sound of Coldplay.. It'll change your life... If it hasn't already :-)

Free Music Review: Amazing...
Hit: 5 Stars

Anybody who is not convinced by this DVD/CD package simply does not recognize musical magic when they see and hear it.

This is a rare gem in the world of concert DVDs and live albums. Shot in a mix of black & white and color, the visuals are absolutely unmatched. The musical quality is extraordinary.

When listening to their albums, one might wonder how they could recreate such a rich, produced sound on stage. This package answers such skepticism with bold, tasteful style.

Their energy and passion on stage is quite unique in today's pop culture, where the bulk of what is percieved to be amazing stage energy is a hard rock band bouncing around in circles, bobbing their heads and holding up the devil sign to their adoring fans. Coldplay have proven that the greatest form of stage energy comes from a true connection to the fans. In the DVD, their energy and presence shines through the screen.

Chris Martin has a unique presence which is somewhere between Bono and Dave Mathews, while creating an image all his own...he performs with the passion of a rock god, but interacts with the crowd in such a humble way that he can only be percieved as one of them.

It is hard to deny that Coldplay are truly the next big thing. Frank Sinatra defined the 40's, Elvis the 50's, the Beatles/Stones/Hendrix the 60's, Van Halen/Michael Jackson/U2 the 80's, and Nirvana the 90's. If/when Coldplay's followup to "A Rush of Blood to the Head" surpasses its predecessor, there is a good chance they will define the first decade of the second millenium.

Free Music Review: If there were 6 to give, I'd give them.
Hit: 5 Stars

Coldplay has been greatly hailed. And for good reason. They're a beacon of non-rock in an era where rock is king for no apparent reason as most rock bands can't put together a decent album to save their life, and rely on their one radio single.

Coldplay is fantastic live. They rock all out, giving everything they have. You have to see it to believe it. Chris Martin hunched over his piano, banging out the Scientist with all his might, as if it were his own personal Rhapsody In Blue, is the very personification of emotion. The rest of them are just as awesome, with "Politik" and "Yellow" also garnering that type of hyper-emotional emotion.

The songs here are longer than their studio versions ("Everything's Not Lost" is 4 minutes longer), and he LETS the crowd sing, not forcing the crowd to sing because he's afraid. "In My Place" is not the hardest song he has vocally, that would DEFINITELY be "Shiver", which he sings with perfect ease. He just lets the crowd sing on "In My Place" because it is and was the most iconic of all the songs off Rush Of Blood. Not the best, but still the most iconic.

If you've ever liked Coldplay, even on the radio, this audio and video representation of them should be your christmas gift to yourself. It's just amazing.

Free Music Review: Coldplay is the Bomb
Hit: 5 Stars

The CD/DVD combination is a great idea. Their live performance is right up there with their studio efforts. Several aspects come through in their performance and accompanying documentary:

1. They are an extremely TIGHT band. The cohesiveness of their sound is due to the fact that they are always "on the same page" with each other because they've known one another for so long.

2. I don't think of them as great musicians necessarily; but they are pretty darned good.

3. They are overly conscious of their sudden success and are not all that comfortable with it. They seem nearly embarrassed and apologetic about it, almost to the point of ridicule. The documentary points that out repeatedly.

4. As a result, they try to avoid being pretentious at any cost. As a result, Chris Martin realizes the futility of such a pursuit since they are playing to 20,000 people at a time, not a drunk 100 in a stinky pub in London. Rock n' Roll by definition is a pretentious pursuit. Always has been, always will be. Nature of the beast.

5. The electronic keyboard parts on their studio CD's are piped in during their live performances, which sort of sucks. Eventually I am sure they will hire ancillary musicians to make their shows more authentic.

However you describe it, they come off as a unique quartet.
