Free Music Notes for Parachutes

Free Music Review: Awsome
Hit: 5 Stars

After releasing Parachutes almost a year ago, Coldplay have gone from little known poms to one of the best bands going around the world scene. The first time I heard the album was after my brother had purchased it a year ago. As soon as I heard the first song "Don't Panic" I knew this was going to be great album, and then when "Shiver" came on I thought to myself I have never heard of these guys but christ they rock, and that was before I heard the "Yellow".

Now I know I have heard people saying things like "there a Dave Matthews band rip off" and try to compare them to bands like Radiohead. But when it comes down to it Coldplay are Coldplay and there music is good and theres, if anything there sound is remotly similar to Powderfinger. Whos cares who it might sound like, all the above band are great.

A few nights ago on Aug 10th I saw these guys at Festival Hall and was that a show. They started with "Shiver" in front of a full house. Later on when Chris started singing "Trouble" he changed some of the words (My Lonelyness) in the song so that it sounded like "My Happiness" by Hometown band Powderfinger which sent the crowd into a rage. Then Chris stopped and stated that Powderfinger were in the crowd before starting "Trouble" again. Powderfinger Toured with Coldplay in Europe so chris wasn't scard in giving them a bit ... in a joking way. They played most of the Yellow album and some off the Blue Room EP and 1 or 2 covers. On leaving the hall I saw the boys from Powderfinger who had watched the concert not far from where I had. Awsome concert from a Great Band!!!

Recommend buying the Album and seeing them Live. Also recommend Gomez, Powderfinger, George (Aussie Band), Radiohead and Stereophonics all similar music.

Free Music Review: A Memorable Debut
Hit: 5 Stars

Coldplay's Parachutes is a wistful, melancholy album whose futile yearning and serene resignation occasionally betrays a glimmer of hope. It is an earnest expression of thwarted passion and aching regret, but it is also, finally, a hymn to optimism in spite of all this--an insistence that, though our loves may "pay us no attention," we ought not to panic; that, though we never change, "everything's not lost".
Throughout the record the band displays obvious chemistry, the piano amply complementing Martin's plaintive vocals while the drumming and globular bass lines offer subtle support to both. On tracks such as "High Speed", a synthesizer offers a soothing, almost aquatic backing that evokes a dreamy atmosphere. As for the songs themselves, they are generally languid and unassuming, characterized by contagious melodies and soft, subtle textures. The electric "Shiver" and "Yellow" are two of the disc's best songs; they are tempered by thoughtful acoustic fare like "Sparks" and "Trouble". That they made the 45-second ditty "Parachutes" the album's title track shows Coldplay may actually have a sense of humor.
Less discriminating listeners are apt to pass this off as "Radiohead Lite". This claim is unfair. Indeed this music seems to encapsulate much of what is good about Radiohead--the memorable melodies, the Floyd-like moods--while dispensing of Radiohead's annoying political commentary and overcoming its bleak cynicism. To me, Coldplay is ultimately more subtle and fulfilling. Parachutes, an auspicious debut album and perhaps the band's best work to-date, is as good a place to enter their world as any. Turn it on, dim the lights, and swoon.

Free Music Review: A beautiful, hope-filled masterpiece of an album
Hit: 5 Stars

Coldplay's multi-platinum debut "Parachutes" is a wonder. Granted, it doesn't have the feeling of freedom that one gets while listening to "Rush of Blood to the Head"; nor does it have the strength or power of the songs in "X&Y". But this is where it all began, and in the minds of a majority of people this remains the band's best album.

It's hard to pick out the best songs of the album, as they're all nearly equal. "Don't Panic" is a great, easy way to begin the album. It's followed by "Shiver", which is most definitely one of - if not THE - best song on the album. Other highlights include the hit "Spies", a wonderful piece about paranoia; "Sparks", a calm, romantic song that has a feeling of great comfort; "Yellow", which displays the versatility of the band as the song switches from percussion-heavy rock to a beautiful, free-flying chorus; and "High Speed", which was recorded before all the other songs. There isn't a bad song on the album; as I've said, nearly all the songs are equally great.

Chris Martin has a great voice, filling these songs with a feeling of hope and a sense of wonder about the world. The percussion switches from being very subtle to smooth and gentle to heavy and pounding. The guitar work is really terrific, particularly on "We Never Change", echoing dreamily. The lyrics are far from Shakespearean, but that's part of the beauty of it.

This is heartfelt music. It never tries to be grand, and perhaps that's what's so great about it. It's a beautiful, hope-filled masterpiece of an album that you'll want to listen to again and again. By all means, pick it up. You won't regret it.

Free Music Review: A Golden Parachute
Hit: 5 Stars

Before they started experimenting, Coldplay first attempted to put their stamp on a perfection of rock music. And while it may not perfect the genre, it certainly adds a lot into what rock is in the 21st century, and has to be considered in a list of top 100 albums in rock, as it really sets the stage for all Brit Rock to come in the decade.

"Don't Panic" starts the album off in a glimpse of what's to come: understated, but brilliant soft rock. The chords are all so strikingly original and driving, as showcased in "Shiver," a track that introduces you to question of 'why didn't anybody think of this sooner?,' which you will ask throughout the course of the album. "Trouble" is a striking piano-based ballad that chock-full of some of the most raw emotion Coldplay has recorded, and it again, it has some great piano-based riffs in the song. "Yellow" is probably the most recognizable track from the album, and rightly so since it has such timeless, yet mysterious lyrics. Again, it has some excellent musical prose, and some raw, yet simple emotions. A true Coldplay original, the track has led to a few covers, but I have not heard one that tops the original just yet.

Overall, 'Parachutes' is a breakthrough, and in the battle of best Coldplay album, it depends on which style you like. If you like the grand and layered sound, then 'Viva La Vida' wins out, but if you like the simple, yet understated sound, then 'Parachutes' wins out. All in all, it's not hard to see why Coldplay is considered one of the best bands in the world today. Don't believe me? Their inevitable best-of CD already looks to be a killer.

Free Music Review: fabulous!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought Coldplay's Parachutes when I heard Yellow but I had not a chance to really sit down and listen to it.

After 3 years, I still have not gotten sick of Yellow. It's still one of my favorite songs.

1. Don't Panic 5/5 - Have you watched the video clip? It's so cute. Anyway, it's a good intro song. Very catchy. Sounds somewhat like a depressed person trying hard to be optimistic. But really cool. [We live in a beautiful world]

2. Shiver 5/5 - This is a really good song. It's one of my favourites. It's one of the faster tracks in the album. [I'll always be waiting for you]

3. Spies 3.5/5 - Maybe I just don't understand this song. So I think it's pretty weird to me. But it still sounds good. Slightly different from the rest.

4. Sparks 5/5 - I love how the intro starts and move towards the verse. Gives a very twisted kind of feeling. Pretty slow and soothing. One of my favorites!! [Yeah.. I saw sparks]

5. Yellow 5/5 - It's been 3 years and it's still on repeat. I am not bored of it yet, nor am I bored with Chris Martin's voice. EXCELLENT. My favourite. [Look at the stars, look how they shine for you]

6. Trouble 5/5 - This is the second single from Coldplay. Great song. [I never meant to cause you trouble]

7. Parachutes 5/5 - Interlude. Would sound fabulous if it was a song though.

8. High Speed 3.5/5 - Not their best, but it's still good enough.

9. We Never Change 4.5/5 - It's beautiful. I love how the song sounds rather depressing at one second and sweet next. [I want to live life..]

10. Everything's Not Lost 5/5 - Beautiful.

Oops. Looks like I gave most of the songs 5/5. But they deserve it.
