Free Music Review: Another version of Cole Porter's style....
Hit: 4 Stars

After the Cole Porter movie came out a few years ago (ie: the movie with Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd), there was a resurgence in interest in Cole Porter's hits.

This CD has most of Cole's hits from the movie, although the songs are not sung by modern singers (as in the recent De-LOVELY movie). Thus, the songs in this Cd were recorded before the movie.

Please note that the earlier recordings included in this CD will not sound as "sharp" as the movie version tracks (ie: the soundtrack's songs to the movie which is called "De-Lovely"). However, if you can afford to buy both versions (ie: this CD and the De-Lovely CD) I think you will be able to get a nice "feel" for Cole Porter.

A nice addition to your music history CD Library,in my opinion.

Free Music Review: I like the soundtrack..
Hit: 4 Stars

I didn't even know who Cole Porter was until I saw the De-Lovely movie, and because I loved the songs in that movie (I had heard of a few of them before) I bought the soundtrack. Even though Porter enthusiasts don't like the current movie soundtrack, I love it, and it's the reason why I went searching for more authentic Cole Porter songs. So, I gotta give it credit, it brought in a new fan

Free Music Review: Cole done right
Hit: 4 Stars

Enjoyed listening to Cole Porter through the media of some of best vocalist from another era

Free Music Review: Disappointed
Hit: 2 Stars

Cole Porter's songs were written in the 1920's, '30's and '40s. However, all the cuts on this recording were produced in the 1950s (except one from 2003). I found them over-produced, with flashy orchestration, sung as if the singers wanted to draw attention to themselves, almost competing with Porter (Fitzgerald somewhat less than the others). If you like the '50s style, you'll like this CD. If you want the flavor of the '30s and '40s, you'll be disappointed.

Free Music Review: A bit disappointing
Hit: 2 Stars

I was hoping that the arrangements would be more romantic... they aren't. "Love for Sale" is the only clear winner on this CD. I will donate the CD to our local library, and download specific songs in the future, after reviewing them.
