Free Music Notes for 7even Year Itch: Collective Soul Greatest Hits 1994-2001Free Music Review: One Word: AMAZING Hit: 5 Stars
Just a great CD. If you don't know who Collective Soul is, I HIGHLY suggest you go out and buy this CD anyways. There are many recognizable songs that you may have heard on the radio at one point in the last 7 years. The CD starts out with the incredible, highly-charged rock anthem "Heavy" that really gets you pumped for the rest of the CD. Other popular songs include "Gel," December," and "The World I Know" from CS's second album (and in my opinion, their best album yet), Collective Soul. Popular songs from other albums include "Why Pt 2," "Precious Declaration," "Shine," and "Run" among others. The only real disappointing thing about 7even Year Itch is that their two new songs ("Energy" and "Next Homecoming") featured are not too great. But this is an overall great album and I haven't stopped listening to it since I got it. I only wish they would have put a few more songs on it---it just seems a little unfinished. "Skin" or "Untitled" or "To Where the River Flows" or "Vent" would have been great contributions I would think. Or just some more songs from their first and fifth albums that are barely featured on 7even Year Itch. I was surprised to see that "Perfect Day" was not on this CD. It is the first song I have seen CS record while featuring another artist---Elton John for that matter! But, it is still great with out it. BTW---Collective Soul in concert is a MUST-SEE! I saw them in May 2001 and they became my favorite band and I now have all of their CD's. They are an incredible band who deserve to be seen and deserve more than what they are getting. They are quietly famous which is both good and bad, but I still find them popular and just good all around.
Free Music Review: A Must-Have Collection Hit: 5 Stars
Collective Soul is without a doubt one of the premiere bands of the decade. Their consistently good music is evidenced again in this superb collection of SOME of their hits. In my opinion this band is the single most exciting band since the Beatles, perhaps not as prolific, but certainly as talented. This album reinforces that opinion. Anyone with an ear for good music will recognize a band that is unbelievably tight in its presentations, while always searching for, and finding, unique, inspired phrasing. These guys don't let up for a second, relentlessly pushing to surpass their own genius. "7 Year Itch" marks a turning point in the development of the group. From here they will either destroy all conventional opinion of their work in a new outburst of inspired music, or, because of a recent implosion within the group, they will relegate themselves to a great group that was. But...listen to "Listen". It could have been picked from within the White Album. And "Why Pt. 2" has a signature lick that will roll inside your head for days. "Shine" will be remembered as a soulful and insightful classic for generations, and yet remains one of those, "Oh yeah, I know that song", songs. As a fan of Collective Soul you may have preferred other cuts in this compendium, but irrespective of individual choices this is an accurate representation of their work, and a new listener should be inspired to own the complete works. "7 Year Itch" is a wonderful introduction to the band, or a great cross section of their talented playlist. Hopefully it will be the harbinger of a new era of Collective Soul.
Free Music Review: Wow! Excellent surprise Hit: 5 Stars
I knew very little about this band before purchasing the CD. Basically I've already heard the song "Shine" which I found quite awesome and this Swiss rock radio presenter dude kept saying that Collective Soul was one of the best American rock bands of the nineties. Plus, the CD had a nice price tag on it, so I thought what the hell let's try it. I have to say I totally agree with the man. This CD totally blew me off my feet in the first ten minutes of listening which happens very rarely. Basically it's just a sublime collection of excellent rock songs. Now, as with all greatest hits CDs, hardcore fans will find that some of better songs were not included on the album and others that were don't really belong there. Well, as far as I am concerned, at least 10 tracks really belong on the CD which is pretty good. What I like most about the band is the refreshing variety of their repertoire, going from softer "ballads" to harder guitar-driven tracks. The riffs and solos are never quite what you'd expect and you never know where a particular song might take you. The point is, the CD is worth every penny (or centime, in my case) that I paid for it and I would recommend it to anyone who likes contemporary rock music.
Free Music Review: Collective Soul - Simplicity of Alternative Rock Hit: 5 Stars
Hearing from many of my friends about the great things Collective Soul has in the music world (and because I was looking for an extra addition to my dwindling CD collection), I decided to check out this CD.Kids, adults, ladies and gents? I was completely amazed at what a group such as this could give: simple, yet trendy rock that someone like me can appreciate. I enjoy every single track on all of their CDs, and the fact that one came out giving the band's greatest hits is a must have. After seeing the band in concert and seeing their unique yet fresh rock style, I just had to get my hands on some of their music, namely their Dosage and self-titled CD from their popular songs "December", "Run", and "The World I Know," all of which are on this CD. Recently I saw this CD on Amazon.com and decided to buy it from the great tracks given on it plus a couple of extras called "Energy." For those of you like me who just enjoy simplistic music without the techy information or warped music, this is definitely one of many CDs worth looking into. It's all about simplicity and fresh music with this group; get this CD! You'll see what I mean :)
Free Music Review: Impressive for a Greatest Hits record Hit: 5 Stars
I, originally, had no intention in buying this album. I'm not a big fan of "Greatest Hits" records. I mean, why buy 1 CD when you could buy a whole[]load of them, right? I got this CD because I owned only 1 Collective Soul CD(Blender) and I was going to see them in concert. I decided it would be nice if I knew at least most of the songs they preformed. I was considering the fact that I had only heard 3 of their songs apart from "Why Pt 2", which I only knew from Blender. These included "Shine", "December", and "The World I Know". I fell in love with this album almost instantaneously . My favorite tracks became "Heavy", "Energy", and "Forgiveness". Other honorable mentions were "Run", "Gel", and "Precious Declaration". Eventually I would have ended up naming all of them without hesitation, so basically each song would at least recieve 41/5 stars. You HAVE to see these guys in concert! It's amazing! After I saw them, they flew from my list of great bands to my list of favorites and soared to the top. I can't speak less of these guys. See(or at least hear) for yourself. Definately going to buy the rest of their albums once I can afford them! Woo-Hoo!
