Free Music Notes for Chasing the GhostFree Music Review: Amazing!! Hit: 5 StarsIn short, this is a great record with guitars, keyboards, and a female singer who has a beautiful voice!
This is a five star cd-
Free Music Review: What depeche mode might have been with female vocals Hit: 5 Stars I discovered this band by accident but I love this album in particular. The dark and moody atmosphere of the music and sensual singing really come together on this album. I am a big fan of the Depeche Mode album SONGS OF FAITH AND DEVOTION and although very different I think if you like that you will like this. Mode has a lot more up tempo songs and the mode stuff is harder but its the tech stuff and the feel that are similar.
I also like a lot of bands with the same mood but a little harder, The Gathering, Lacuna Coil, Anti-m, Xymox, Evanescence, Within Temptation are all bands I like, Xymox being more electronic than the others. Of course music is subjective so what I like you might not.
Chasing the Ghost is in my most played ipod playlists as well as in my car and my home stereo.
Free Music Review: Uninspiring Work Hit: 2 StarsI bought this on a whim after listening to some of the samples offered on Amazon and based on the ratings which suggested this album was Collide's best effort.
What I thought would be a satisfying record of some thick, layered, ambient goth... turned out to be anything but. This is pretty dated stuff, and while I haven't listed to any of their newest albums, "Static's" work here is pretty amateuristic. The rythmic patterns he assembles are pretty simplistic and the samples & synth patches he chooses seem very unambitious. Almost like he was afraid to put too strong a signature on any of these disposable tunes.
Musically, nothing here impresses nor engages the listener. It's not ALL bad... there is an occasional meaty dirty sampled hit sound here or there, but nothing that really gives the songs any real push or pull.
Vocally, Karin is just not a strong singer in any sense of the word. I am sorry, I know... here come the hateful responses. First off, the lyrics are OK. Not great, but are obtuse enough that you may find some meaning in them for yourself. What bothers me here is that it seems that very little time was spent creating an appropriate melody that fit both the lyrics and the song itself. Pretty much in every single song Karin falls back on the same falsetto Middle Eastern inspired vocal runs instead of attempting to create an interesting or unique vocal melody for her lyrics. It was VERY frustrating for me to listen to. When Karin is not doing her Middle Eastern Falsettos, you can usually find her whispering the balance of the lyrics. It is sad because I am pretty certain she is capable of much better.
Some of you will claim that this is just "the style" of this type of music and that I am missing the point. Naahhh, I get it. Really, I do. I listen to countless recordings of this style music and this just isn't good. Curve anyone?
The album cover kicks serious butt though! I give that 5 stars!
Free Music Review: An amazing experience Hit: 5 StarsI first found out about Collide after purchasing an Asleep By Dawn Sample CD. I was hooked after hearing Euphoria. After that I went out searching for Collide and Chasing the Ghost was what I found. It is the perfect music for all things dark and sensual. It is a bit goth, a bit industrial, a bit. . .I don't know. It is honestly unlike anything else I have listened to before or since. kaRIN's voice and Statik's music couldn't be more suited to each other. They play off each other's strengths. They are also amazing people. I ended up later ordering from their website and got personal responses from them. Definitely check them out.
Free Music Review: Soundscapes and emotion... Hit: 5 StarsQuite a few years ago a friend suggested that I have a listen to this gothic band that he'd found on the internet
That band was Collide.
This was one of the first albums I bought by the band, and is still one of my favourites. Wings of steel being my favourite track from this album, and each time I hear the album I am still impressed by the complexity of the musical construction, as well as the beautiful vocals from the wonderful kaRIN.
StatiK and kaRIN do an excellent job in creating a haunting and emotional soundscape that provides listeners with a truly amazing experience.
