Free Music Review: Let it Be
Hit: 5 Stars

An incredible 5 star album. From the very first track Common has you thinking in new views. Each track has a lasting effect that keeps you striving for more. The lyric content of this album is what shouldn't be ignored in Hip Hop but still is. This album should have gone 5 times platinum. Usually I favor a hand full of tracks but all the tracks on this album make it worthy of buying it twice but the absolute track that is number one has to be "Be(Intro". It's lyrical content, beat and delivery are the key to isn't radiance.

Free Music Review: Solid Album
Hit: 4 Stars

3.5/5

Common leaves rock and roll behind in a return to the roots of hip-hop in his sixth LP, an album that features production by Kanye West on all but two songs and was his most commercial effort to date at the time of its release. The Chicago native proves from the beginning that his skills have not faded much on the album's welcoming title track. He then proceeds to show off his lyrical dexterity on The Corner, a song in which he rhymes each of the first two verses with a single vowel. Go is a tale of venery that is incongruous with Common's reputation as a spiritual rapper as well as out of character with the rest of the album. Faithful provides an earnest look into Common's ever-fertile mind, this time on the subject of relationships. In Testify, he tells an original short story with a surprise twist in just over two and a half minutes. Common eloquently examines the subject of love with the complexity it deserves on Love Is, a track backed by a J Dilla beat. Kanye saves his best beat for Chi City, a hard-hitting street anthem dedicated to his hometown. They Say and The Food are relatively forgettable yet listenable songs with Kanye alongside Common on the mic. Real People is one of the best examples of Common's liquid flow you will ever hear, while It's Your World is an introspective song that effectively caps of the album.

Although Be doesn't stack up with the likes of Resurrection, One Day It'll All Make Sense, and Like Water for Chocolate, it is a solid album that is a step up from Electric Circus, and it is much better than his debut, Can I Borrow a Dollar?. Admittedly, this album's commercial material will sound different to fans of Common's older material who are accustomed to listening to his stories of growing up on the south side of Chicago. The critical acclaim given to this album has also been a little on the excessive side. But still, Be manages to hold its own and is well worth listening to.

Free Music Review: Chicago still has it.
Hit: 4 Stars

"Be" is an album that makes you feel apart of the music with the raw emotion of the tenured emcee Common. This album takes you in when it starts with "Be" with the amazing beat and the love he gives to his own life. Another song I found interesting was "Faithful" which has the nice chicago soul built in with questioning of certain things in Common's life.

One big thing on this album is love and understanding also how all man/woman are equal. Common is a person who supports his city and his people he also really challenges why life is the it is. I truly love this album and with Kanye on some tracks how is this not gold?

Free Music Review: "Be" is where it's at
Hit: 5 Stars

It's like he's telling a story with each of his songs and you feel almost like your right there with Common along for the ride. Taking it all in and enjoying all that he has to offer. With nice featured artists, background vocals, lyrics and themes for each of the songs. I can't help but wonder why i waited this long to purchase it. Nevermind that i am just glad that i did finally get "Be" and now i can enjoy it whenever which i plan on doing over and over.

Everyone probably has a favorite song or two (or more) on this cd. I do as well of course. That one is "Testify" its like a court room drama going on in the song with all the anticipation and hype that you would expect. But with a nice twist and it made go "woah" that was insane. I wish it was a little bit longer otherwise the song was straight fire.

Also enjoyed "The Food (Live)" with Kanye West them going back and forth. You know just the whole vibe and flow of the song with everything going on. It just made the song that much better and the meaning behind it always hits home especially when Common is involved in it.

"The Corner" man what a way to start of the cd (well) after the "Be (Intro)" it hits you off straight from the jump sending a message out there to those fake, wannabe running thing MCs that he's putting on blast without any remorse. He puts them on notice and holds them there throughout the course of the song.

Also enjoyed "Go!" can't help but have a soft spot for the love type songs that he does. Folks can call it soft if they want to but Common has no problem giving the ladies props and letting them know that they are important and special. That they should be treated as such and i can't help but agree with him and the song.

I relate and feel this CD a lot more than i thought i would. Its no wonder Common has been around in the rap industry. He does it like he wants to a delivers a message to one and all without being preachy. All the while doing it with style and class at the same time.

"Be" is where it's at.
