Free Music Notes for Finding ForeverFree Music Review: (4.5) STARS Hit: 4 StarsAfter "Be" Common is back in '07 with "Finding Forever" once again executive-produced by Kanye West.
The result? One of the best albuns of the year. Their chemistry is evident and even with beats from other producers like Will I. Am and the late J. Dilla Common brings his A game to the table and shows why he's one of the mos prolific mc's in the game...
My favourite track is "The Game"...that boom-bap beat u can swear was made by DJ Premier who contributed with his sharpest scratches.
It's a great album but I still don't know if it's better than "Be" but certainly "FF" is one of Common's best albuns to date.
Free Music Review: Never Un-Common Hit: 5 StarsI rarely write cd reviews as it's very subjective. I enjoyed Common's latest cd, especially "U Black Maybe". What I did find odd was it numerous references to stars of today and one-hit wonders or news flashes. We'll remember his album, but I'm sure years down the road some folks will wonder, "What astronaut lady?"
Free Music Review: Common deals with the world & romance 4.5 stars Hit: 5 StarsYou can always expect something diverse from Common. "Finding Forever" isn't quite on the level of "Be", which I thought was his best work to date. But it's a real solid disc just the same. The intro to the record is soothing. The strongest tracks in my opinion are (7),(3),(12),(8),(9),(11),(4),(2). The (2) track "Start the Show" is an excellent song which mentions Noble Drew Ali. It's a rarity that an M.C. mentions one of our icons. The third cut "The People" is an excellent song as well and what people call conscious rap. The 4th song "Drivin me Wild" is the radio friendly joint, dropped right out the gate. I didn't feel it at first but after I heard it a few more times, I began to like it, more & more.
Southside which is the 6th track features Kanye West. I can feel Kanye on his own records, but for some reason not the collabos, especially this one. The seventh selection "The Game" is the strongest track. You could tell right away the legendary Primo is involved. The lyrics & beats to this song are top shelf. The 8th song "U Black Maybe" is mellow & insightful, sounds like old school Coonga drums were utilized toward the end. In the 9th selection "So far to go' Di Angelo makes a comeback of sorts. This song has an old school feel synthesizers and all. Number eleven "Misunderstood" is a very good song though on the hauntingly melancholy side. Twelve "Foreever begins" is another thought provoking & inspiring song, with Common's Pop's closing it out. Common's an M.C. that has something to say and a positive vibe to feel in his music. With Pharoahe Mounch, and Talib Kweli dropping CD'S around the same time not to forget Public Enemy as well, Hip Hop might be ready for a revival.
