Free Music Notes for Finding ForeverFree Music Review: Too soon after his classic album, "Be" Hit: 2 StarsCommon is a far more talented lyricist than this album indicates. It's possible that the recent mainstream success of the classic album "Be" influenced his change in style and perhaps even developed some complacency in his creating this newest project, but this is definitely a sub-par effort on his part. As someone who has been a fan since the late 90s, I recognize his talents and what he is capable of and this is not an accurate representation of the artist Common has portrayed himself as over the years. If the majority of your exposure to his music is "Be" then you may be quite pleased with "Finding Forever." If you have a greater reference point to which you can compare his latest music, you will most likely be disappointed.
This line from "I Want You" illustrates how lame some of the lyrics are:
"A dreamer so I'ma keep dreamin' on, it's kinda like the break up of Jen and Vince Vaughn"
What the hell is that about? Jen and Vince Vaughn? That relationship should never be referenced in any song let alone a song by one of the premier hip hop artist of his time.
Free Music Review: lost finding forever Hit: 3 Starsthis cd is not the hype that the industry would like you to believe. common does not hold the wisdom that he wishes to portray to his fans. he is a midiocar rapper with aight skills. he could not hang with the complex flows of Az or the smothness of NAZ. he is not as witty as MAC DRE or possess the passion and believability of 2pac. he is better than most of the newer artists that are comming out today. he should also fier his A&R director, because they make him look like a child molester on the front of his CD. Hey Common, why are you trying to hide your face with sparkly candy colors under an ice cream man smile? you should have called this project Mr. Softy. I hope they catch you and R Kelly on Date Line
Free Music Review: Most Overlooked King Hit: 5 StarsAs a lot of actually hip-hop fans know Common has always had a irreplaceable gift for putting poetry (not just rhymes)to beats. As of now i cant really think of anyone besides of course that tight-nit group of Emcees (Kanye, Talib, Mos def, Lupe and Dead Prez) that can compare to Common. From beginning to end the cd flows. But of course he has tracks that express his love for women and even the struggles of everyday life. Examples are "Black-maybe", "Break My Heart", and even "Misunderstood".
My advice to anyone that thinks hip-hop is dead please buy the cd so that u know the difference between Rap and Hip-Hop!!!
Free Music Review: Nuff Said Hit: 5 StarsI loved this album so my top 5 is really a top 4 because Misunderstood is by far my favorite song.
So Far to Go
Break My Heart
I Want You
U, Black Maybe
Free Music Review: Common is back Hit: 5 StarsI love Common and his tenancy for more eclectic beats to make his words more pronounced. There are a couple of beats like that here but with Kanye making the beats on this album there is a nice mix of some old school beats and kanye-ish ones. Common rips is as always and only has Kanye as a special guest on any of the tracks. If you like Common, you'll love this CD. Even if you're not a big Common fan, you'll like this CD. Its that good. Get it. I promise you won't regret it.
