Free Music Notes for Company (2006 Broadway Revival Cast)Free Music Review: A great addition to the COMPANY collection Hit: 5 Stars
This recording of COMPANY, though not replacing my favorite, the original cast recording from 1970, is a great recording of the current revival. Raul Esparza is one of the main reasons to buy this version. There is a bit too much dialogue for my taste. When I listen to cast recordings, I want to hear the music, not rehash the scenes. But all the scene work leads into the songs and set them up rather well, not this turns out to be a minor quibble.
Free Music Review: stunning Hit: 5 Stars
saw the show in New York and it blew me a way, as the best show I have seen in 20 years, and I work in theater. and the recording will not disapoint if you were unlucy enough not to see the show, as much of the dialogue is also in the recording the show will make sence to you which often recorded shows fail to do. the one thing it will leave you is the puzzelment many people have had, as to why Raul Esparza was passsed over for the Tony?
Free Music Review: Somewhat of a revelation Hit: 5 Stars
I was skeptical but have been won over. I miss a full orchestra at times but the reduced orchestrations almost always work well - and without the synthesizer, etc, the score is freed from the 70s and allowed to breath in the present. The score holds up remarkably well and is performed to near perfection here. Raul Esparza is particularly good as Bobby. I'm suprised and pleased to find I like this so much.
Free Music Review: Super Hit: 5 Stars
This is a super recording of one of my least favorite musicals (perhaps because shows that come close to real-life issues are much less entertaining than, say, The Wedding Singer). Raul Esparza is wonderful in the lead, and every cast member is highly talented. There are a few new songs in this production, and the recording is sparkling clear. A must have for any Broadway collection.
Free Music Review: Little makes it big. Hit: 5 Stars
This version of Company originated in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park under the direction of John Doyle and is unique in its having no orchestra but relies on the actor-musicians to plumb the depths of their characters by not only acting and dancing, but also by playing their instruments. It is highly successful and is Tony material.
