Free Music Review: This Deserves SIX Stars!!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This DVD was one of those experiences of getting FAR more than I dreamed of. Eric Clapton, a lifelong friend of George Harrison organized this concert along with George's wife Olivia and Dhani (who looks like a clone of the '60's George Harrison). The guest's include of course, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jeff Lynne (ELO), Billy Preston, Ravi Shankar, Monty Python and many more. These musicians learned George's music to absolute perfection and gave a two hour performance (at the the DVD version), that is one of the most emotionally moving performances, no make that "the" most emotionally moving performances I have ever seen, as a tribute to the late great George Harrison, whom in my personal estimation was not only a master guitarist who excelled at creating the most melodic leads in the history of music, but also a very loving spiritual man who helped shape the hearts, minds and soul of the generation that grew up in the 60.'s. This tribute literally brought me to tears of joy in appreciation of the music as well as the grief of the loss of someone whom many of us feel as strongly or more so than losing a very dear brother.

Free Music Review: AMAZING!!!!!!!!! WE MISS YOU GEORGE!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This Soundtrack not only has some of the most amazing George Harrison songs whether it's from his Beatles career, to his solo career to The Traveling Wilburys- it is sung by his best friends who sing his songs so tenderly & vibrantly. How sweet that great likes Tom Petty, Ravi Shankar, Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Paul McCartney & Ringo gathered to honor him.

This soundtrack is truly one of the best albums of the year!!!! It has something for everyone!

Free Music Review: The Quiet One Speaks Through Others
Hit: 5 Stars

What can I say? Of all the piss-poor tribute albums that have been done (including Kiss' tip o' the hat to themselves w/ 'Kiss My Ass') this is the absolute greatest expression of appreciation for an artist's work ever. Honestly, not being a fan of Indian music I haven't listened all that much to disc 1 - Disc II however is f*cking amazing.

As Jim Morrison would say "a feast of freinds" are here to pay a long overdue albeit beautiful tribute to George. Jeff Lynne and Eric Clapton trick the listener sometimes into thinking they have the original songs on. Beautifully sung and played "I Want To Tell You" kicks off the disc and it goes all the way up from there. Tom Petty does his usual whine/sinus-nose singing of Taxman and the surviving Wilburys do a great job of Handle With Care.

Then it gets truly great. Ringo does Photograph in a voice that shows his love for his fallen comrade. The song takes on a meaning much more than a run-of-the-mill love song. With lyrics "Ev'rytime I see your face it reminds me of the places we used to go - now all I got is a photograph and I realize you're not coming back anymore - I want you here to have & hold" perfectly sum up what all of the musicians and fans must have felt that evening. Truly remarkable.

The song that knocked me square on my ass was McCartney's version of Something. Having seen his tv concert, I knew he did a rendition of it on a ukelele. It begins as such, then when you least expect it - the whole band charges in as Eric Clapton nails the solo note for note with emotion not possible from anyone else in the biz. My cd skips now where that comes in 'cos I wore it out from being completely captivated. Just beautiful.

Clapton, Starr & Paul wonderfully do While My Guitar Gently Weeps note for note and the rest of the cd follows in tow.

Truly if you're a fair-weather Beatle fan or a longtime Beatnut, then you will be amazed just how great this is for a man who's talent was well-known but was always in the shadows of his obvious counterparts. On this, it's George's night. The once "quiet one" now speaks through his friends and the world once again has gained another great collection of music.

Pick it up!

Free Music Review: Very Disappointing
Hit: 2 Stars

I'm a huge George Harrison fan, but I did not enjoy this album at all. Most of the songs did not sound very good with other people singing them, and the arrangements were horrible.

It sounded like there were too many musicians playing different off-tempo parts all at once. Many of the songs seemed to just plod on with overused female backup singers attempting to hold things together. What a mess.

Get Harrison's real albums to hear these songs done right. I did give this two stars just because there was some salvation here in the fact the Harrison did write great songs.

Free Music Review: In Loving Memory Of George
Hit: 4 Stars

When George Harrison tragically passed away from cancer in November 2001, and all the tributes started pouring in from George's musical peers, I was very surprised to not read or see any tribute from one of George's closest friends---Eric Clapton. But then, later in 2002, I saw that Clapton organized an all-star tribute concert in George's memory on the one-year anniversary of his death. I was very touched to hear about it, but I was even more touched to finally *hear* it. Recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall on Nov. 29, 2002, "The Concert For George" is a marvelously heartfelt tribute to the late, great George Harrison. George loved the music of India, and Disc One of this 2-CD set contains the Indian music part of the show, featuring Ravi & Anoushka Shankar, as well as a cameo from Jeff Lynne on "The Inner Light." It's very, very beautiful. Disc Two is the main concert featuring Harrison's songs, both his Beatles and solo compositions, and it's full of mostly outstanding performances, including Clapton's rendering of "If I Needed Someone," Jeff Lynne's "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)," Joe Brown's "Here Comes The Sun," Billy Preston's "Isn't It A Pity" and "My Sweet Lord," Ringo Starr's "Photograph," and Paul McCartney's "For You Blue," and McCartney's duets with Clapton on "Something," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Also appreciated is Procol Harum's Gary Brooker on "Old Brown Shoe," and Joe Brown's heartfelt ukelele finale that's guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye, "I'll See You In My Dreams." Unfortunately, there are a few debits. Tom Petty's thin, nasal voice doesn't quite cut it on "Taxman" and "I Need You," though he certainly tries (and I do acknowledge that he was a friend & fellow "Traveling Wilbury" of Harrison's, so I suppose he had a right to be on the stage that night). Also disappointing is the ommission of comic performances by the members of Monty Python (whom Harrison was a huge fan of), and Sam Brown's performance of "Horse To Water," which was reportedly a major highlight of the evening (I have not yet seen the DVD version of the concert, but I definitely plan to). But overall, this double live CD is as excellent a memorial to a great music legend as one could possibly ask for. "The Concert For George" is an absolutely touching, beautiful celebration of the life and music of George Harrison, a truly great artist who blessed the world with his great musical gifts.
