Free Music Notes for Concert for George

Free Music Review: Nostalgic but not really entertaining.
Hit: 3 Stars

The songs were and are great. The premise of the concert is great. The performers, unfortunately, WERE great, but many of them are losing their vocal ranges. I am particularly disappointed in Jeff Lynn, who sounds like he is a 45 RPM record being run at 33 RPM. McCartney at least has some vocal stretch left; Clapton and Petty are middle-of-the-road on this. I don't really think this CD was worth the money. All the songs seem a little too dreary...are they too slow in tempo? Is it the concert venue? Something is just not energetic enough on these classic songs, and it depresses me to listen to it.

Free Music Review: clapton's indian solo
Hit: 5 Stars

i only got to see a few minutes of this on tv, so i know hardly anything about it, but i was lucky enough to catch clapton playing acoustic guitar with some indian orchestra, and his solo was AMAZING! very expressive and soulful. the fact that clapton can tear it up on indian music in addition to his usual rock and blues is a testament to his incredible ability.

I just finished watching Concert for George on PBS. First time I've seen it. You gotta have this CD and probably also the DVD. The music was exceptional. So many great songs. Wah Wah, Isn't it a Pity, Something, All Things Must Pass. I can't wait to get it and have it blast from my stereo.

It's easy to forget the impact George had. It's been so long since I first heard his music. Music is different now. Not nearly as moving. The Concert for George brought it all back for me. It will for you too.

Free Music Review: George Harrison concert DVD.
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm 12. My mom and dad always talk about the Beatles. Some of my friends do to. When my mom and dad play them I leave cause I think they're old. So my mom was playing the DVD and I was listening to one of the songs and like I couldn't beleive how cool it sounded. I went in and saw this fox singing so I listened to it all. It's good. Her name was Sam Brown. (My dad's stereo is killer to so that helps.)

My mom was so into it. She kept stopping it and telling me all about who did what, telling me what the words were and it was fun. Everyone playing was so serious and it isn't like cool really but it sounds good. I guess it was a lot of English people who are like so European. I guess I like the Beatles and George Harrison more now. My mom cept crying.

I going to give it to my Uncle for his birthday. My Uncle's cool too.

I'm RC.

Free Music Review: Nice Tribute for a Good Man
Hit: 4 Stars

I really enjoyed these CDs and the concert which was recently televised on PBS. Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr and almost everyone gave fine performances. I was especially impressed with the way Billy Preston belted out his lead vocals. Joe Brown's (no I never heard of him before) were also a highlight to me.

I was rather disappointed with Tom Petty. Frankly, the last couple of times I heard him perform tell me that he's losing his voice fast. Never exactly a classic voice, but it used to be a great rock 'n roll voice and seems to be disintegrating into an annoying whine.

To me, being a huge Beatles fan, the highlight was Paul McCartney. Personally, while the duet with Clapton was certainly entertaining, I'd like to hear what Paul could do with "Something" on his own, sung in the way it was originally recorded by George. The ukelele version that Paul has been doing is touching, but I bet he could solo this tune really well in it's original format. Has there ever been a better voice in pop music? I think the best performace on these CDs was Paul's spot-on perfect cover of "All Things Must Pass". Just terrific.

As to the critics complaining that Paul was on stage last, Paul was preening, Paul made inappropriate comments, etc, etc. Get over it! Not unlike John and Paul, Paul and George had their issues between them, but through it all they were friends. Not long before his death, George used one of Paul's homes in America as a refuge from the prying media. As for the supposedly "inappropriate joke" Paul made, he was only referring to something that Olivia had said earlier. Paul was also the picture of dignity on stage that night.

He was the last performer introduced. That was chosen by Dhani and Olivia. And why not? He was George's bandmate and the living person mostly closely associated with George in the public's mind. He got the biggest ovation of any performer that night, which was predictable and therefore appropriate that he be last, so as not to detract from those who would have followed him. This is why Paul has often been chosen to close shows, such as Live Aid, Prince's Trust, Knebworth. Face it you Paul bashers, McCartney is as talented a performer as any in the history of rock music and towers over nearly everyone in stature.
