Free Music Notes for Recollection: The Best of Concrete BlondeFree Music Review: Concrete Blonde Shines Hit: 5 StarsI am partial to this very well produced album by the versatile and talented Johnette Napolitano. Her lyrics and singing ability shine through with feeling on this highly creative album by Concrete Blonde.
Free Music Review: Freeway Cruising Hit: 4 StarsTo be up front, the only Concrete Blonde song I had heard before picking up this collection of was the hit song " Joey". Upon listening to this disc I must admit I was very impressed. Cruising down a desert highway or just hitting your favorite straightaway, this cd sets the tone.My favorite track would have to be "mexican moon" , but all the songs have a haunty(is that even a word?) old west feel to them. Johnette Napolitano's voice definitely delivers the goods, going from crystal highs to whiskey lows. The only snag I have is their cover of Janis Joplins "mercedes benz". It isnt awful but it wasnt a high point for me. So drop the top and pop this disc in.... you wont be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Nothing weak Hit: 5 StarsBloodletting is one of my favs. Like I never have gotten tired of it. Despite some outrageous subject matter, it's still something I can put on when other people visit. Who listens anymore, anyway. But they always ask, Who Is This? Fits any mood, like some coffee-table book.
The lyrics are profound, the recording crystal clear, the guitar work is exquisite, the drums are unforgettable, and Johnette's voice . . . beautiful and sensual. (I knew she'd look as good as she sounds).
Free Music Review: FEMALE SEBASTIEN BACH !!! Hit: 5 StarsCONCRETE BLONDE IS A BIT OF A MYSTERY BAND. THEY CAN BE GOTHIC, ROCK N ROLL, POP AND EVEN NEW WAVE. BUT MOST ASTONISHING POINT IS VOCALS OF LEAD SINGER JOHNETTE, IT'S LIKE CHER MEETS SEBASTIEN BACH OF SKID ROW. VOCALS AMAZED ME THEN AND AMAZES ME NOW. AND OF COURSE "JOEY" IS A TIMELESS PIECE. THERE ARE LOT OF GOOD TRACKS AS WELL. YOU GOTTA OWN THIS CD, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, YOU WON'T REGRET !
Free Music Review: Excellent and underrated. Hit: 4 StarsI can't imagine why this is currently out of print, but it's the best place to start your "Concrete Blonde" collection for sure. It also takes pretty evenly from their first 5 albums. Included here is "True", "God Is A Bullet", "Joey", "Someday", and "Heal It Up". Everything on here is great, but I do miss "Song For Kim", "Long Time Ago", and "End Of The Line". Also the original "Bloodletting(The Vampire Song)" would be nice, and maybe a b-side like "I Want You". But we do get "Everybody Knows" from the "Pump Up The Volume" soundtrack, and a live "Mercedes Benz", among 16 other tracks. As far as collections go, you may have to settle for "Classic Masters", or "Still In Hollywood", but I would search for this myself.
