Free Music Review: Great companion to an incredible movie

I saw the movie "Control" last night. Then immediately went to a record store to buy the CD. And as I was in line, an employee saw the CD and said 'great movie, great cd'. Agreed! The movie completely blew me away and after watching the credits go by and seeing all the great music, I knew I had to get it. This isn't meant to be a 'compliation' CD of rare tracks.. its meant to be a soundtrack to the movie. And that is exactly what it is. Not only does it include Joy Division songs, but their influences-- which were featured in the movie: David Bowie, Roxy Music, Iggy Pop. And it was a nice touch to see their contemporaries, The Buzzcocks, featured as well. Especially since they're mentioned so much in the movie. And I like the added touch of including New Order tracks and a new cover by The Killers (which played during the end credits). It would've been nice to have a few more songs, some more influences.. maybe some Sex Pistols, and another Joy Division song or two. But at 17 tracks, its not exactly 'lightweight'. - And I also like the added touch of movie dialogue in between the tracks.
Overall, a great CD. I haven't stopped listening to it all day.
And if you have the opportunity-- go see the movie!!!

2007 release of the soundtrack to the Ian Curtis biopic directed by photographer/videographer Anton Corbijn and based on the book Touching From A Distance by Curtis' widow and co-producer of the film, Deborah Curtis. The film stars Sam Reilly in the title role and was first shown at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and received vast critical acclaim. All of the live scenes in the film are performed by the actors, while the American group The Killers contributed a cover of 'Shadowplay'. Music from other bands in the film are original recordings by the original artists, including David Bowie, Roxy Music, Buzzcocks, The Velvet Underground, John Cooper Clarke, Kraftwerk, Supersister and Iggy Pop.
