Free Music Review: Enjoy the British California Invasion
Hit: 5 Stars

Alright, you have all heard the incredible music of Teenage Fanclub. Well, although the Cosmic Rough Riders are not quite as good as far as songwriting skills, they are definitely on to something. I have listened to many bands like this, and I have to say that the Cosmic Rough Riders have the best American accent of all the British bands that have ever existed on this planet. Well actually, The Jesus and Mary Chain do, but that is only because J&M Chain (glad they have an abbreviation, typing that name all day will give you carpal tunnels). O.K., what was I saying, oh yes, The J&M Chain sound lazier and Americans are typically lazier than Brits, and I'm American so I can say that. But yes, the Cosmic Rough Riders accent is even better than Teenage Fanclub's. I would have bet that the vocalist was either from the U.S. or lived in the states for a long time. That's until I saw their videos, because they look like Austin Powers, but they still look good, don't get me wrong, they are not posers like all the radio garbage you hear in the States, they could just probably benefit more if they had a late 1950's American Rockabilly look to them. I mean they sound late 60's but they are very cool and it would be great for them to confuse the public a little bit. Why look like the 60's just because you sound like the 60's. If the singer dressed and looked more like Duane Eddy than Austin Powers he would be a lot more hip. And the other guys as well. Anyway, I just can't get
over the great American accent. These guys could be from Athens, Georgia! Hey, I know you want to hear about the music, but I have to rave some more about the great American accent. How do they do it? I mean I can sound British even though I am American, but a Brit can tell that I am just a cheap imitation of the real thing. Now these guys HAVE IT DOWN!!! I can not hear any British accent, except for some La La La's in one song. The British La La La's have a certain seriousness to them as opposed to American La La La's. So hey Cosmics, watch out on the La La La's. They are still excellent La La La's when compared with other British bands, but the Cosmic La La La's are not as good as the Teenage Fanclub's Ba Ba Ba's on "I Need Direction" (from the cd "Howdy"). Anyway, I have enjoyed this release very much, even though the lyrics are kind of goofy. In "Glastonbury Revisted" they sing "we made love but what happens now that all the acid is gone". Its pretty good actually, to have words that don't really fit the music. Thats a good concept. I would like to see their first two independent releases reissued by Poptones. Who knows what kind of lyrics are on those discs. Maybe "we sat in the sunshine and I spanked her behind because she likes that". "Now what happens when the spanking is gone, I miss you sweet honey buns". This is a great release by an excellent band that would look great with pompadours!!!!
