Free Music Notes for Hard CandyFree Music Review: Great album from the Crows Hit: 5 StarsThis album is really great. It has a classic rock feel throughout most of the songs. This release got overlooked by most in 2002 and that's too bad that so many people missed out on this great music.
Free Music Review: Not All That Bad Hit: 3 StarsSo, I love Counting Crows. Their first three cd's were excellent, and I fell in love with their music, not to mention Adam Duritz's voice. It has so much character and feeling. That being said, initially I was highly disappointed with Hard Candy. It seemed too pop and main stream oriented. Add that to their tv commercials, and you have a crushed fan. I think the problem was American girls and Big Yellow Taxi biased my opinion. They were too pop. So after about a couple months I took another listen and found to my surprise, I actually enjoyed listening to it. There were quite a few songs I really liked, Black and Blue included. Though a few, American Girls, Big Yellow Taxi, and New Frontier were disappointing, overall, this is a decent cd. It's definitely no where near August and Everything after or the other two, but worth a listen.
Free Music Review: Adam Duritz Hit: 4 StarsIf you like Duritz, check him out on the I-10 Chronicles album, where he pays tribute to Warren Zevon who wrote "Carmelita". Nobody does "Carmelita" better than Duritz, not even Linda Ronstad.
Free Music Review: Disappointing at Best Hit: 2 StarsAs a long-time Crows fan, I was very disappointed in general by the Hard Candy album. Duritz's sound has definitely turned pop with this record, which is unfortunate coming from one of the best songwriters of this generation. The originality of August and Everything After isn't there, nor is the edgy rock riffs of Recovering the Satellites. Some of their old sound come out in Black and Blue, and Richard Manuel is Dead, but American Girls is so syrupy-sweet it makes your teeth ache. For any Crows fans that jumped on the bandwagon with their third original album, This Desert Life, your money is better spent on one of their first two albums.
Free Music Review: this CD is amazing Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is truly one of the best I've ever heard. It's a nice, relaxing CD that brings together Adam's beautiful voice with the strong instrumental background. A come-back CD? If they ever really did leave... this most certainly will bring them back.
