Free Music Notes for Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings (Eco)Free Music Review: Worth the wait Hit: 5 Stars
I approach every new Counting Crows CD with same apprehension, but that's the problem when your debut is as origional and creative as August and Everything After. I had to listen to it twice before I could really decide, but I really have say it is as good as everyone else has already said. I particularly like the second half of the CD, the Sunday Morning side if you will, especially tracks 7-14. They just really reminded me the somber, melancholy feel of Perfect Blue Buildings and the like. My favorite has to When I Dream of Michelangelo and far the criticism of repeated phrases, who cares. If you are already a fan, you will not be disappointed, for everyone else, I think its worth a listen.
Free Music Review: Great album Hit: 5 Stars
This is the first great album I have purchased that was released in 2008. If you like the Counting Crows you'll love this CD. I'm just about through with the first listen and I want to hear it all again. The guitar work is surprisingly awesome. This is a band that has progressed in the right direction. After listening to Hard Candy about five years ago I wrote this band off has dead. This album is timeless and is everybit as good as August and Everything After. Adam Duritz has a way of saying things in his songs that paint a perfect picture and don't sound cheesy. Melancholy, sometimes Zeppelinesce, and songs that get you deep inside. Buy this one!
Free Music Review: Worth the wait Hit: 5 Stars
I've been waiting more than five years since Hard Candy came out for a new CD. Wow did they come through! The first "side" of the CD rocks and comes across like some of the hard stuff they've done in the past, like "Have You Seen Me Lately" with a little Stones sounding riffs thrown in for fun. And the second side shows that Adam is one of the greatest ballad writer/singers there is. Songs cut through as well as some of the classics like "Holiday in Spain". If you were at all on the fence thinking that the Crows were yesterday's news, you are foolish. They know what it takes to produce a quality CD that will wear out your player.
Free Music Review: This Album just gets better each time you listen to it. Hit: 5 Stars
The first listening of this album didn't grab me like `August and Everything After`, But I found my self singing the lyrics all day, and more I listened, the more it hit me like a ton of bricks. The lyrics start coming through and tie together with songs from previous albums. Once I grasped the meaning I cranked up the volume and it ROCKED! They are all brilliantly written. My favorites at the moment are Cowboys, Insignificant, and Sundays. But like most Counting Crows songs, your favorite changes depending on the mood your in at the time. Awesome Job Guys! You never stop making me fall in love with you.
Free Music Review: Best since AAEA Hit: 5 Stars
This album is at least as good as anything Counting Crows have done since "Recovering the Satellites." It's possibly, dare I say, better than "August and Everything After." I'll let someone else judge, but Jesus, it's impressive, poetic, powerful and great. Will post more when I listen - and digest - the album in its entirety. The songs I've heard tell me the story of a band determined to matter, determined not to float into insignificance, determined to bring us something meaningful, something that, past and present, will matter in any generation.
