Free Music Review: Counting Crows are back!
Hit: 4 Stars

I love the Counting Crows-especially their earlier stuff. Their more recent stuff has been a bit too "peppy" and pop for me. This is getting a little more back to their style, I think. Really like it.

Free Music Review: Same About the Recording
Hit: 1 Stars

I love 'August and Everything After' by The Crows, so was really looking forward to getting this one. It's unlistenable on a decent sound system. A sad example of the current trend to pump-up and compress recordings to sound impressive on the radio and mp3 players.

So unfortunately, I can't bear the sound of it enough to rate the musical content. I guess the poor guys are deaf!

Free Music Review: abandoned by my favorite band
Hit: 1 Stars

Let me begin by stating that I have these guys' entire catalog. I grab anything I can that's counting crows related but I've been listening to this album non-stop for 3 weeks now trying to like it....hoping that it would grow on me...but its still HORRIBLE

The recycled lyrics and phrasing throughout this album are distracting and weak. Please, Adam....give us some new ideas! The dissonance that pops up in a few songs is annoying. There is nothing here to really get behind. I feel abandoned by my favorite band, I was hoping for some growth, something new from this album in the same way that Recovering, This Desert Life, and Hard Candy offer new and vibrant visions.

I'll definitely sample their next album before buying and sell this piece of junk to a store that buys back used cds.

Not overly impressed with this CD. A couple of good tunes, but in general having a hard time getting into the music.

Free Music Review: SOmething for Everyone
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a huge CC fan for years, and can not count the number of times I have played August and Everything After. Although not quite as consistant as the first and best album, Satuday Nights is still strong, heartfelt, and well-constructed. It has been on constant repeat for me and I have enjoyed hearing Adam again. I am in love with "Hanging Tree" and "Sundays" and have discovered new nuances in the songs every time I listen. I really like the two-sided approach they took to the construction of the new album (songs of destruction and partying vs. songs of rebuilding and finally a little hope). "When I Dream of Michaelangelo" sounds like it could have come right off of Recovering the Satelites (which is not a bad thing, that was a great album and I loved the lyrical shout-out). I agree with other posters about the repetitive "On A Tuesday In Amsterdam Long Ago" and the rather nonsensical "1492," but those are my only critical marks on an album that gets even better everytime I hear it. I seldomly buy full albums anymore, but this is one you can make an exception for. Great stuff!
