Free Music Notes for The Trinity Session

Free Music Review: Late nights and cold days
Hit: 5 Stars

I got this as a hand-me-down cassette and it got me through so many late nights and cold, dark days when I was in college that I couldn't _not_ replace it when it finally gave out. I especially missed "Misguided Angel" and "200 More Miles". It's not dynamic, though, so if you're looking for something with a more obvious rock sound, this isn't it, but it's a great album.

Free Music Review: Mecca of Melancholy
Hit: 5 Stars

Perhaps the most penetrating aspect of this album is the way it transports you into the plight of the people being sung about (whomever they may be). Margo Timmins' voice is so hypnotic and ethereal, it is difficult to listn to this album without conjuring up cinematic, black & white mood images. One song after another is a wondrous collage of silent suffering.

Free Music Review: A Voice like a Stradivarius
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is awesome. Margo's voice reminds me of the sound maestro Pablo Cassals coaxed from his cello: velvet-smooth with a hint of fuzzy. I was astonished by the effortless vibrato she applied in "Blue Moon." "Misguided Angel" is so pitch-perfect at the end you wonder if her voice is really human. (Trust me, it is.)

Free Music Review: One of the most amazing albums ever
Hit: 5 Stars

Sometimes time, space and people all converge to create something truly amazing. The Cowboy Junkies Trinity Sessions album is one of those.

"Heavenly wine and roses, seem to whisper to me, when you call, when you call"

Sure, Lou Reed wrote it. But nobody performs "Sweet Jane" better, ever has, or ever will.

Free Music Review: Don't miss this one
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a truly exceptional recording. I was amazed to learn that it was recorded in one session on a single microphone, but that certainly explains the spare, melancholy beauty of this music. Margo Timmins has a cool, introspective voice; she is expertly accompanied by the rest of the band. The result is a sad, atmospheric classic.
