Free Music Review: Captivating, Unusual Performance
Hit: 5 Stars

This performance was recorded in one night, in a church. It is easy to hear that it is very simply miked, and due to the acoustics of the space, the band couldn't really rock out or risk ruining the recording - so throughout the music there is a sense of restraint which helped heighten the emotions in the songs played.

The songs are all selected well, and the order is a good one, but the one that really stands out to me is "Misguided Angel" - the raw emotion of the song, of a girl running off with a guy who is "bad" for her, explaining it to her parents is charged, and if played on a stereo system capable of reproducing the detail and the subtle nuance on the disc will leave you emotionally spent at the end of it.

This disc will sound very good on a regular stereo system, but will only sound better when the equipment gets better. One of the few pop recordings out there that can take really revealing equipment and sound great on more modest setups.

While this album is not for someone who prefers pristine studio recordings, it is one heck of an album, and it was so early in their career, that I am sure they are constantly compared to it.

I highly recommend this disc for both the music AND the recording quality!

first of all, moron, the band in question is Canadian. NOT American- so you empty cant about how American groups are derivative and British bands 'one-up' the artistic spectrum, are a tad out of place. Besides, outside of Manchester (78- 84) Britisg groups are junk. You cats are just miffed cuz you lst your emppire and now we run te world better than you did. Go home and stick your head in a grave. I'll let youknow if we need some more Brits (like you) upon whom we can test our Patriot missile systems. Oops.

Free Music Review: potent seduction music, or just mellowness...
Hit: 5 Stars

It's too bad that the Junkies haven't put out anything nearly as good as this album ever since. Sure it's mostly derivative and unoriginal, but what's not to like about it? These guys basically take some classics and slow them down and soften them up even more, the music oozes out and hangs in the air majestically, rendering a suspended time sort of feeling, the notes and words float and linger before passing by followed by more of the same. The strongest songs are the ones with slow but steady driving melodies, like the cover of "Sweet Jane" which is a brilliant reinterpretation of Lou Reed's original.

Best with some candles, good red wine, and a delectable lady (or two) on your lap...

Free Music Review: Kind of inauthentic sounding
Hit: 3 Stars

The woman sings as if she's learned to fake her way through the bluesy states the songs call for (I don't even think they should have tackled Hank Williams at this point). The band plays with an "acquired" feel too, and it sounds as if they're plugging ahead without all their instruments, relying on certain ones, especially on CAUTION HORSES, which has some lame lyrics but which I think picks up better than this album. How is it that a British band such as Mojave 3 is able in every song to sound better at conveying the American southwest style, whatever you wanna call it, than the bands born right here? Don't settle for less: this may be an OK effort but it's quite forgettable; you owe it to yourself to try Mojave 3. The British have always taken American idioms and one-upped them.

Free Music Review: Excellent music to chill to!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I actually bought the Best of the Cowboy Junkies CD first, then ordered Trinity Session from CDNOW, and I must say, this is a really great album. It has a certain vibe to it that I have not heard from many groups. Definitely headphone music, but also great to blast on the CD player at full volume. It almost sounds as if the group was playing right in your living room. It's a testament to how good the Cowboy Junkies are, with only a single mic recorded ina church, which only adds to the beauty of the album. You can definiitely hear where Mazzy Star got some of their sound from. Other recommended purchases for viewers to try that I have are Spacemen 3 (Perfect Prescription), Love(Forever Changes), Mazzy Star(She Hangs Brightly), Spectrum( Soul Kiss, Glide Divine, or What Came Before After)- all are great chill out to albums TAKE CARE
