Free Music Review: The perfect recording??
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is quite possibly the most perfect recording of pop music out there. Ever wonder why recorded classical music sounds perfect and natural while most pop/rock records sound more compressed with less air movement? Because classical records are recorded with a few microphones in acoustically pleasing surroundings, while pop/rock recordings are close miked with noise gates and compression. The Trinity Sessions, recorded with a single microphone in a church, uses the same lo-fi approach as classical recordings to gain the ultimate in hi-fi quality. And, the sound quality is simply outstanding. And, believe it or not, singer Margo Timmons actually sang through a small PA system to get her vocals loud enough!!

In addition to the incredible sound quality, the songwriting and playing on the disc is exceptional. A great CD from a great band. A must own for any fan of the genre and for any audiophile or hi-fi enthusiast.

Free Music Review: UNIQUE ATMOSPHERIC SOUND
Hit: 5 Stars

This elegant, spooky and emotionally gripping music can loosely be placed in the same category as Daniel Lanois' masterpiece Acadie and perhaps be described as folk or country based atmospheric rock. There is an understated elegiac tone throughout, especially in songs like Misguided Angel, 200 More Miles, Dreaming My Dreams and the exquisitely sorrowful To Love Is To Bury. They turn Lou Reed's nervous, pulsating Sweet Jane into a dreamy folk song and the traditional Mining For Gold into a spiritual anthem. Their own compositions like the aforementioned Misguided Angel, To Love Is To Bury and 200 Miles are as good as the well chosen classics that they interpret with such brilliance. I'm not familiar with their other work, but albums like this don't come around very often. It was recorded in a church in Toronto which probably explains the unusual overall sound. A classic if ever there was one.

Free Music Review: Excellent music to chill to!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I actually bought the Best of the Cowboy Junkies CD first, then ordered Trinity Session from CDNOW, and I must say, this is a really great album. It has a certain vibe to it that I have not heard from many groups. Definitely headphone music, but also great to blast on the CD player at full volume. It almost sounds as if the group was playing right in your living room. It's a testament to how good the Cowboy Junkies are, with only a single mic recorded ina church, which only adds to the beauty of the album. You can definiitely hear where Mazzy Star got some of their sound from. Other recommended purchases for viewers to try that I have are Spacemen 3 (Perfect Prescription), Love(Forever Changes), Mazzy Star(She Hangs Brightly), Spectrum( Soul Kiss, Glide Divine, or What Came Before After)- all are great chill out to albums TAKE CARE

Free Music Review: THIS WAS PERFECT
Hit: 5 Stars

There are not many lot of albums that I would say this about, but this is a perfect album. Recorded quickly and live in an old church, the Cowboy Junkies caught lightning in a bottle with this one. They manange to make well known cover songs (SWEET JANE, BLUE MOON, WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT, I'M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY) sound like their own and their originals (I DON'T GET IT, POSTCARD BLUES and MISGUIDED ANGELS) sound like old classics. The band plays with economy and taste, while singer Margo Timmons sings like she is channelling the ghosts Billie Holiday and Patsy Cline. The whole album is tinged with a late night melancholy that mosts bands are lucky to reach in a few songs. THE TRINITY SESSIONS remains one of my favorites some 17 years after I first bought it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Free Music Review: Album of the Decade
Hit: 5 Stars

Two brothers, their sister, and their neighbor enter a church in Toronto and emerge hours later with "The Trinity Session", the only album worth saving from the decade that brought us New Kids on the Block and Milli Vanilli. The band seamlessly blends blues, country, and rock to produce a sound that defines labelling. Margo Timmins' voice whispers in your ear and leads you down a dirt road into the heart of Americana. Lou Reed, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams....their songs are interpretted in such a way that you forget what the original ever sounded like. The greatness of this album lies in the simplicity with which greatness can be captured: one microphone, one church, one day. A must have for any musical collection whether it be country, rock, blues, alternative, or folk.
